I feel silly for even putting this in health, but, if I went to the doctors with......

....a twitchy eye lid, would he actually be able to do anything? Is there anything I can do at home to stop it?

I am not one for going to the docs for every little thing, but my eye lid has been twitching for about 2 weeks, it is driving me absolutely crackers. It doesn't hurt, as far as I know I've not banged or knocked it or anything, it isn't noticable to anyone other than me, but it is constantly putting pressure on my eye ball. If it hadn't have gone on for so long I would never ever even contemplate going to the doctors with it, but (in case I didn't make it clear before) it is driving me crazy!!

Eat a banana

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:38

A banana?

I knew somebody at university who had this when he was sitting his finals and he was prescribed valium to control it!

The doctor can do something - don't know if it could be less drastic than valium but it would be worth a visit.

I get it when I am tired - does getting more sleep help?

belgo · 15/08/2008 14:42

muscle twitching can be due to lack of magnesium/potassium I think, and these are contained in bananas.

So yes, eating a banana is a good idea;

PortAndLemon · 15/08/2008 14:42

Am guessing that the banana is in case it's down to potassium deficiency?

PuppyMonkey · 15/08/2008 14:43

I think the clue is in your MN name. Isn't it something people get when pregnant? Goes aways quickly as it comes..

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:43

I am sleeping well. I am 20 weeks pregnant, don't think valium would be the answer (can I have it for the birth though please?!! )

I would just feel soooooo silly for going to the doctor for a twitchy eye lid!

Is there nothing I can do at home first?

Is it a pregnancy thing? Never had it before!

Ah, of course potassium, ewww yuk, do I really have to eat a banana?

Nope, am waiting to hear if I actually have to!! I can't stand them, even the smell of them puts me off.

I will do though if it is going to stop this bloody twitch!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:48

No, banana's are about the fruit I don't like...

I haven't got any of them in, will get DH to pick a couple up on his way home.

Thanks, I was eyeing up the fruit bowl then wondering if I'd actually have to eat one!

OP posts:
belgo · 15/08/2008 14:51

I'm not so keen on bananas, but I love freshly made banana milkshake.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:51

Not the fruitbowl, just a banana out of it!

and foods containing potassium are also good for the leg cramps that many women get during pregnancy.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:52

I don't even like banana milk shake, it is all to do with the smell.

When I am peeling them for the boys I have to hold my breath

OP posts:
solo · 15/08/2008 14:52

Tomatoes are also full of potasium.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:54

Not getting the leg cramps yet, just the twitch.

I can not tell you how bloody annoying it is!

OP posts:
NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:54

Ooooh I can do tomatoes as well! In fact have been eating a lot of tomatoes recently.

OP posts:
belgo · 15/08/2008 14:56

I think tonic water contains potassium?

solo · 15/08/2008 14:56

Don't over do the potasium, it's potentially dangerous to have too much.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 15/08/2008 14:59

I am no good with knowing what's too much.

Once a day? Is that too much?

Twitches of all sort are common in pregnancy, that's what I understand. Found this:
