....a twitchy eye lid, would he actually be able to do anything? Is there anything I can do at home to stop it?

I am not one for going to the docs for every little thing, but my eye lid has been twitching for about 2 weeks, it is driving me absolutely crackers. It doesn't hurt, as far as I know I've not banged or knocked it or anything, it isn't noticable to anyone other than me, but it is constantly putting pressure on my eye ball. If it hadn't have gone on for so long I would never ever even contemplate going to the doctors with it, but (in case I didn't make it clear before) it is driving me crazy!!

I'm no expert! I would think that a portion a day is ok. I only know about it because my cousin almost killed herself(yes really)because she was eating half a dozen bananas a day and my mum also had to stop eating tomatoes due to having high potasium levels that were making her ill.
Brazil nuts are also a source and you shouldn't eat more than 4 a day.

If you are healthy, it's quite hard to overdose on potassium, but I would consider half a dozen bananas as too many, as your cousin found out solo!

One a day is very healthy.

Oh Boccoli I am glad you said that, have been wondering for the past how such a small thing could be so damn annoying!

I will get DH to get some avacados, and keep up a portion a day, see how it goes, thanks everyone, at least I might escape a very embarressing trip to the doctors.

It isn't effecting my vision at all, I don't think the optician would be able to do anything.

Twitchy eyelids are very common and usually due to overtiredness and stress (not low potassium/magnesium levels which are very uncommon in healthy adults). I had it a lot when pregnant too.

Its not a sign of anything sinister, so don't worry about it and it will probably go away of its own accord.

I wasn't worried, just pissed --off annoyed with it! As I said I'm sleeping well, and not overly stressed now, so will still give the avacados/tomatoes a go, it can't hurt can it?!!

muscle twitching is often due to a lack of magnesium and women are more prone to low mag levels as magnesium is used for energy production but also for hormone production. calcium is often prescribed by docs but taking calcium without magnesium will throw out a delicate balance of the two. calcium will contract a muscle, magnesium will relax. thats why one type of blood pressure pills are called calcium channel blockers, they inhibit the action of calcium to constrict the blood vessel.
you need twice as much calcium to mag so 500mg of calcium should be taken with 250mg of mag. women who have heavy menstrual cycles should think about taking extra magnesium too as they will use up stocks very quickly.
mag in food is found in dark green leafy veg, brown rice, soya beans, nuts brewers yeast, whole wheat flour and leguminous veg too. but if in doubt a simple mag supplement will work quickly.

relative low levels of potassium are quite common in healthy adults as we consume far too much sodium. a healthy adult may have normal levels of potassium (K) but because sodium (Na) levels are far too high, relatively, K is low if that makes sense? another reason to cut down on salt!!

it depends on why you have low BP. taking extra salt you raise your BP is never a good thing anyway.
K will lower BP to a point as it balances the electrolytic action of the cells and it also helps the heart pump stronger, but if you have constant low BP then that is a whole other ball game and I would not reccommend you tackle this yourself without supervision from a doc or herbalist as messing around with low BP can be worse than trying to correct high BP (I an insured to advise for high BP but would not attempt low BP unless I liased with the GP).

Hi there, a low salt intake is suggested for high Blood Pressure BUT not the other way round, we usually consume more salt than we need anyway and the body is incredibly clever and meticulous at adjusting the level, and indeed that of Potassium, usually only fairly 'ill' people will have problems with these electrolytes. Oranges also have potassium so these may be more palatable, one or two of each a day will not be a problem anyway.

I would urge you to be a little cautious about some of the advice around. Blood pressure in humans is dynamic, it goes up and down depending on what the body needs at the time. It is normally lower when pregnant but the actual blood flow around the bits that matter is higher so considerable care is needed to avoid causing problems. Just try and avoid the situations like getting up too quickly, lying flat on your back, getting out of a hot bath etc etc, all of which may make you feel a bit faint. As far as the twitching is concerned you might just have to live with it for a little while.

I get a twitchy eyelid when v tired, run down or stressed. In either eye. It is annoying but it always goes away eventually.

I get a twitchy eyelid when I'm tired. It's been really bad the last few months and I'm pregnant again. Maybe that has something to do with it

NJIPA- I also have low bp. My midwife said drinking plenty (of water ) and eating liquorice can help. Think you would have to eat excessive amounts of liquorice though.

I had this when I was pregnant. It came and went for a few months in my 2nd trimester, then stopped and never came back. Sometimes I thought I could stop it by sort of meditating and focussing on it deeply, willing it to stop, which sometimes worked, sometimes didnt. Best not to worry about it - it will go away eventually.
