Thrush - how do I get rid of it?

Hi, I'm just a new member and have been reading lots of stories over past couple of days.

However one of my wee problems is thrush and I don't see it in the notice board so would appreciate any help on getting rid of it. I'm currently on the pill. Over past few months I've been changing pills (on doctors advice) to see if that would work but no luck. The doctor is now suggesting I come of the pill altogether as this might help.

What do you think?

Have you tried Canesten?

I think I should take shares in Canesten I've tried it so many times.

The doctor has suggested the coil but I'm a bit scared. What does it involve?

Lots and lots of water, canesten, no nylon knicks.

A good healthy diet helps, I always get it if I'm run down and eating too much junk.

kjq · 11/02/2005 12:03

I'm wanting to get it all sorted before summer so I don't need to wear pantyliners. Do you think they irritate the infection?

I expect Pantyliners would make it worse as you need fresh air to circulate.

Suffered from chronic thrush for years, ironically only time I didnt have it was when pregnant. Thankfully now I only have it when very run down.

Come off pill
Cotton knicks
Drink loads of water
Don't use tampons
Unscented baby wipes/flushable toilet wipes every time you wee
Diflucan tablets - and make sure your partner takes them as well

kjq · 11/02/2005 12:17

Thanks snugs that's a lot to go on.

Would all those coil wearers recommend it more than the pill? I'm terribly scared of having another baby right now. Got 2 dd's 26mths and 14mths so don't think I'd cope with a suprise pregnancy.

Just thought of another thing - tight clothing. I used to live in my jeans. Still do to an extent but have some very becoming (not) loose jogging bottoms that I slob around in when at home.

kjq · 11/02/2005 12:22

I suppose it'll save me trying to remember taking the pill each night. Does it affect your sex drive?

OP posts:
biglips · 12/02/2005 10:23

no it does not affect your sex drive as you cant feel it and neither DP can too...

biglips · 12/02/2005 10:25

but it is there thought!.. the reason why i went on the coil coz i had a very high blood pressure adn had to come off the pill all together

misdee · 12/02/2005 10:37

has your partner been checked for thrush?

ImuststopdrinkingBlossomhill · 12/02/2005 10:39

Cod - I don't think the coil is a good idea as apperently thrush can live in the strings [yuk] and then you can never get rid of it. That's why I am having mine out and never having another one again. Have had thrush for about 4 years on and off now so deep sympathies from me
