For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

thank you all
was wondering if was me or her, in time honoured fashion
she inhabits some parallel universe where babies don't cry in the evening and they never teethe, either, as I recall from ds1

of course I do NOT mention that she and my dad used to put headphones on and listen to music in the evening to avoid having to hear my 2 sisters crying themselves to sleep
she told me once they knew they were still awake when they could see passers by looking up at their window with alarmed faces

Avi

Nappies thing sounds logical to me

(Please bear in mind I was terrible at physics)

Aubergine...well, at lunch I had it pre-roasted in strips, and then marinaded overnight in fridge, in a salad with french beans and tomatoes.

Supper it was in a moussaka

I love aubergine with indian spices - great with mushrooms and tomatoes and a bit of cumin and coriander?

FrannyandZooey · 14/08/2008 20:21

aubergines and celery = caponata and it has my beloved capers in too. nigella puts a square or two of plain choc in, very good. i fiddle with ingredients according to what i have but always aub onions toms vinegar capers and choc.

me today
watercress (in sandwich)
smoothie
canellini beans
spinach
25min walk but though an ocean of tourists so v slow.

BBBee · 14/08/2008 21:51

I had capers today!

Am working but dropped by to say

Franny you are doing the most fantastic job ever - really. I wish I could be half the mother you seem to be. I am sorry your mother has left you a bit low - but it is because you are so self aware that you are so perseptive.

DS cried every night from 11pm to 2/3am for first four months - colic?

He is now able to identify great crested newts and can make a wonderful bean casserole.

The best ones cry!

pinkspottywellies · 14/08/2008 22:26

Hellooooooo!

I ran tonight. Haven't been for weeks (or done much other exercise than 1 session each of swimming, yoga and stepping in the last month ). I managed to run for 15 mins without stopping and walked for 15 (5 warm up, 10 at the end) I have put a star on my calendar

Franny, you are fabulous. Absolutely brilliant. It must be very difficult to have people constantly undermine bf. It only happened to me on 1 occasion but it really shook me and had me worried whether I was doing the right thing.

Food = terrible. 2 portions today Oh my god that can't be it I ran to my friend's house but I didn't want dinner before I went and I had a toasted muffin there but that's not really very good. I need to get more organised.

pinkspottywellies · 14/08/2008 22:26

Capers are horrible.

TooTicky · 14/08/2008 22:43

Franny, babies do cry in the evenings. They just do and that is that. Your mother sounds like a bit of a dangerous loony if you don't mind me saying so.

Avi - yes, second opinion maybe useful. Don't know where I'd get one though and it would probably cost £££££. Actually, I have a second opinion - that of my homeopath. Who I trust much more than allopathic doctors. BUT because this follows on from injury I feel slightly different about it. With any kind of illness I would not hesitate to go the homeopathic route.

Pink - have special stickers for running whilst pg!!!!

TooTicky · 14/08/2008 22:44

Franny, I don't know how I am feeling, other than on edge and rather tired.

Avi, what is grey?

TooTicky · 14/08/2008 22:45

Fishie, the caponata sounds interesting. I've never tried capers though.

TooTicky · 14/08/2008 22:48

The BRAN thing is good Avi. I'd not heard that before. Sorry, I am reading and responding bittily.

Boco, I like the sound of the storyteller.

pinkspottywellies · 14/08/2008 22:54

My friend whose house I ran to, when I told her I was coming said 'but it's wet' (it wasn't) 'and you're pregnant'. She thought that was a marvellous reason not to exercise I don't get that lie-around-pigging-out approach to pregnancy. I think it's just the time to eat healthily, be fit, not put on more weight than you can avoid.

TooTicky · 14/08/2008 22:57

Exercise is definitely good. When I was pg with dd2 I was walking between 3 and 5 miles a day and I had my best labour. But I couldn't have done running.

pinkspottywellies · 14/08/2008 22:59

I don't think my pelvic floor would hold up to running on my 4th child - I was desperate for a wee halfway through a field tonight!! I was very tempted

I think if you're fit and healthy your body has got the best chance at labour (labour = hard work - why wouldn't you train for it?!!)

TooTicky · 14/08/2008 23:05

I like the idea of training for labour.
