Sorry for title length BTW.

I feel like I'm going insane.

As soon as I ovulate the PMT induced redmist desends and its making everything shit.

I'm not sure if its gradually turning into proper fullblown PND or depression but I really do feel like I'm clinging to snaity by my fingernails for 3 weeks of every month as I OV pretty much as soon as my period finishes.

Need to take the boys to school now but will be back soon.

please say there is a magic solution.....

3 weeks is a long time for you to feel so bad.. maybe you can go on the pill?

HollyGram · 08/07/2008 08:37

A friend of mine has/had hurrendous PMT so much so that at work her colleagues knew when not to speak to her or even look in her direction for fear of either getting their head bitton off or her bursting into tears. The few days of the month she was able to be rational with herself she knew that she must do something about it. She works in the NHS anyway and had heard about a Gynaecologist with interest in PMT and asked for a referral from her GP. She has been back to this specialist several times having had to keep a diary and food diary etc and has been advised to eat a high carbohydrate diet in the lead up to her period and to cut out sugar, caffeine and a few other things which I can't remember off the top of my head but for the last 2 - 3 months she has been doing the diet thing and is a changed person....

Ladytophamhatt · 08/07/2008 09:34

god, the thought of having to keep a food diary for 3 months makes me want to weep.

I have enough to do without adding that to all the other crap.

I want dh tpo have a vasectomy, the thought of having any more children fills me with utter dread. If I go on teh pill it'll let him off the hook even if I don't tell him, he'll eventually find out.

How long does prozac take to make me sane?

OP posts:
3Ddonut · 08/07/2008 09:42

The usual guideline is 6 weeks to 'optimum' effect. I am thinking along the same lines as you btw, making an appointment to see the GP for increased anxiety and OCD behaviour, I suspect it is down to PMT last 2 - 3 weeks per month, though.... I have some evening primrose oil to try and it was suggested on here that starflower (or something) oil was better, depends how much you want to avoid the AD's or not, I suppose...

Good luck, though.

whatdayisit · 08/07/2008 09:43

boovs - I've heard that sbout the caffine and sugar too, but how do you stick to it? That's exactly what I neeeed this week.

I really symathise Lady. I have 1 week a month when I'm completely useless. Just want to sleep, eat and shout at people, but 3 weeks? I really hope the GP can help.

3Ddonut · 08/07/2008 09:43

sorry, that makes hardly any sense, I've just finished nights!!!

EthelTheUnready · 08/07/2008 09:46

I have had the coil for a year now. I no longer have pmt at all. In fact, I can't even tell when my next period is due. I used to be able to tell how many days to go by the foulness of my mood and shortness of temper. Very grim for everyone involved.

I am a new woman. And my periods are so light as to be negligible.

LilRedWG · 08/07/2008 09:49

The pill made my PMT worse - I was just like you, three weeks out of the month I balanced on the edge. A few months ago I had a non-hormone coil fitted and the PMT is negligible now.

Ladytophamhatt · 08/07/2008 09:59

the coil really freaks me out.

don't you have to check its still in place or something?

I hate the thought of rummaging about up my fanjo.

OP posts:
Ladytophamhatt · 08/07/2008 10:01

also...what happens with the period you'd usually have?

wher does it all go?

i seems so unnatural to me....but equally i think that theonly route can take.

Monkeytrousers · 08/07/2008 10:01

Yep, prozac. It is the only miricle cure. Other than that diet, but it's hard work and if you slip there's hell to pay.

LilRedWG · 08/07/2008 10:03

TBH - even the nurse struggled to check mine was in place when using a speculum, as I have - and I quote - "..an unusual shaped vagina. If you want to try and check just go up to the right and kind of hook your finger around." Needless to say I don't. (I think she was trying to say I have a posterio facing cervix, but fumbled the words somewhat.

Monkeytrousers · 08/07/2008 10:03

You'll priobably feel some benefit by next ovulation with prozac and then totally gone by next.

Or you could have a hysterectomy

EthelTheUnready · 08/07/2008 10:04

6 weeks after you have it put in the GP will check it's in the right place (very painless). After that you leave it alone. I don't check my threads (partly because I can't because of the position of my womb but mainly because you just don't need to). I still have periods but they are very very light.

I know a lot of people have an issue with the coil but I absolutely love it. In fact it's the number one invention ever in my book.

LilRedWG · 08/07/2008 10:04

With the non-hormone coil you get your period. It's a little heavier than when I was on the pill, so much like a normal period than an 'end of pack' bleed. (Sorry brain has died this morning). I'm on quite a high dose of Prozac and BH I'm not sure it's helped my PMT at all.

Ladytophamhatt · 08/07/2008 10:23

Off to teh doctors now.

Wil report back with magic potion soon.

OP posts:
LilRedWG · 08/07/2008 10:26

Good luck!

WideWebWitch · 08/07/2008 10:30

Wondered whether this would be CD. I get it too but it's only 1 week a month for me. I have started to make sure I note it down so I can make allowances fro myself, eg at work I make a HUGE effort to be reasonable that week. Talked to my female boss about it yesterday (as she gets ittoo) and she says she's never noticed it so that's good. Dh certainly does but is very careful not to piss me off one week a month. Let us know what the dr says.

PrincessPeaHead · 08/07/2008 10:31

good luck lth

fwiw I go nuts for about a week/10 days a month as well and the mirena coil (which has some hormones in it) DEFINITELY made me worse. Interesting that some people here say that the non-hormone coil can improve it.... sounds like it is worth a try?

Ladytophamhatt · 08/07/2008 12:43

well, the doc suggested going down the tablet form of magic potion.

either anti-d's specifically for PMT that will lift my overall mood and so making the PMT less murderous or teh pill which will stop ovulation all together.

I mentioned the coil and he said it can help for some women but not for others. He sai dthe mirena one is more suited for PMT in his opinion

I feel myself heading towards the coil, but the normal one because I don't like the idea of having un natural chemicals in me . However the thought of having one of those in make me worry about possibly getting Pg again. We've conceived so easily before I';d worry it wouldn't do it job and I'd end up Pg again and that is something I REALLY DO NOT WANT .

I need to convince Dh tp get the snip because then it'll take away that risk.
I couldn't cope with another one, I dread the idea of another one and I thank my lucky stars we didn't concieve at teh start of the year when we tried.
What one earth I was thinking I'll never know.

So my next question is How do I get dh to agree to a vasectomy???

OP posts:
artydeb · 08/07/2008 13:07

Don't know to your last question. However, to your previous - I have had PND / PMT symptoms since stopping breastfeeding 7 months ago. Even diagnosed with possible on set of menopause . The last 6 weeks have been so much better having taken a high strength vitamin B formula and evening primrose oil. It worked pretty quickly too.

newgirl · 08/07/2008 13:22

you are like me lth

do you take good vitamins? i wonder if that helps.

i dont fancy the pill or coil either

the snip - my dh got one and he felt ok about it as two of his friends had. i sort of threw a tantrum and said 'ive had two bloody cesarians its your turn to do something for this family' - does that help
