Got a leaflet in an antenatal pack - am really shocked (we are in Surrey), hadn't realised TB was so rife..... (is it?)

Found this out today aswell. I am in Surrey. But due to give birth in Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill, where it has not been mentioned. Now that really is odd.

do be careful

we live in a third world country and we haven't had it on the recommendation of a highly conventional doctor in Europe and a highly conventional doctor here

the local schools recommend only regular screening

just mentioning, having only read the op

I should say, the expat schools recommend regular screening rather than vaccination

Ds had it at 6weeks - huge scar but well worth it. We were lucky as his heritage puts him into an at risk group but if he wasn't we would have paid for it privately.

BCG doesn't give great protection for lung TB but it is great at stopping kids getting TB meningitis.

That's awful madam.. what a scary story

My doctors are pro-vax and I was ready to give it to the children, but they said the risk of adverse events was too high compared to the risk of catching TB, and it would have to be specially ordered.

It was quite astonishing for me to be told this by a doctor as I am more used to battles the other way around but I was happy to accept the advice.

I guess in a UK situation I would think that exposure is highly unlilikely from an early age unless they go to a nursery or outside maternal care, and so most people can judge accordingly.

That's such a shocking story about the nursery.

They do it in areas with a high immigrant community as supposedly it is brought into area by visitors and new immigrants. DD1 had it when we lived in Central London.
