anyone doing slimming world - I've gained weight, help

Cant beleive this, stuck rigidly to the SW regime for a week - thre result was a 2.5 lb gain. I feel like weeping. Next weigh in is tomorrow and I expect I have gained again despite sticking to the diet. Any other experiences of SW or of undeserved weight gain?

The only thing i can say is that the SW diet worked for me, and i did get times when i put on a lb or 2 when i had not been too naughty, and others when i had been naughty and had a 2 lb weight loss. The only other time i had a weight gain (normally about 4/5lbs) was the week before i came on, but always lost it the following week.

How long have you been doing the diet?

I know a lady who went put on a pound a got upset because she had stuck to it, the representative went through it and she was having large portions of something in the wrong day.

I found the diet good but did find weeks when i wanted to give up because i didn't do to well (if i was honest i wasn't that good).
After about a 10 week period i got into a pattern of putting a lb on then losing it next week, this went on for about 5 weeks, but increased my water intake, and did some exercise and it started coming off again.

Talk to the consulatant show her your diet sheet and there might be something she can advise.

bunny2 I am a SW girl and I can assure you that it is quite common in the first week to gain weight or not to lose any (or so our consultant says) usually it is due to confusion over what you can and can't eat on a particular day. Have you been filling in the open diet sheet? I find this is the route to finding out what went wrong. Otherwise the time of the month is also a biggie, usually there is one week before you come on that you can carry up to 5lbs.

I can honestly say I lost about 3 stone on SW and it worked great I was never hungry and it was good for me. However due to various stress I stopped going (I was at target and went back to work full time), and I did put on weight again. Therefore I am back at class and have my weigh in tomorrow.

Good luck today.

The only other advice I can give you is drink loads and loads of water. This seemed to help me.

My parents have been on the Montignac eating plan for about 2 years, and they both look and feel great. I tried it for 4 months, and felt better, but lost no weight. It does make sense, though - his legacy to my shopping is unrefined pasta and bread, and many fewer potatoes!

Hi, how did you do Crunchie? I lost one lb which means I am still 1.5 lbs heavier than when I started! Its really unfair that the men in the group lose it so easily, most of them lose 5 - 7 pounds a week! Robinw, I'm looking into the low gi diets at the moment but cant face the thought of no bread. ISnt there a diet that allows unlimited loaves of bread? I'll happily cut back on other things as a trade off.

Bunny that sounds frustrating, I lost 2lb, so I am pleased.

The only thing I can suggest is to look carefully at your open diet sheet, do you od this everyday?? The reason I ask is due to 'hidden' sins and misunderstanding of what you can and can't have. I am sure you are doing it right, but there are some really easy things to mistake. For Instance, the bread you eat, it is 2 slices form a 400g loaf?? or 57grammes? and Wholemeal? Do you measure all your Healthy extras and sins properly? A little bit of cheese for instance (a corner off the block) can be as many as 10 sins! Also do drink loads and loads of water, I find this better than and diet drink, you can almost feel yourself losing weight as you wee!!

Have you asked your consultant to sit down and go through your sheet with you, they should do this if you are having problems.

Please feel free to ask me any questions as I know this diet inside out and have thought of bcoming a consultant!!

GOt on the laptop at last. Dh hogs it for work most of the time. Crunchie, at SW you can eat 'unlimited' amounts of, say, pasta on a green day, are you sure this really means unlimited? I ate so much that I can guess why I didnt lose weight. Should I stick to my normal size portion (I was eating twice my usual amount since joining SW)? I'm thinking of giving SW up in favour of the low gi diet - I often get dizzy and nauseous from low blood sugar so maybe there is an insulin problem. With this Montignac diet you can eat loads of pasta as long as it's 100% durum wheat - this doesnt necessarily mean wholemeal doe s it?

Yes bunny you sre allowed unlimited pasta, however what s the point of eating twice what ou are used to? were you hungry, or were you just trying to prove it worked?

I do eat huge portions, but I always have done (I am a pig!) but with SW I am just swapping my unhealthy large portions for healthy ones, still large portions though. I found last time SW was easier, but that was becasue I was breast feeding too, so I think I would have lost weight anyway. This week I will be happy with another lb or so.

Overall I lost 6lbs beofre I started SW, I did the cabbage soup diet as a bit of a detox first, so I didn't have a big weight loss in week one, Wednesday will be week 2 and so I hope with another lb it will be 9lbs in total.

Good luck tonight Crunchie. Hope you have a loss. You're right I ate more than usual at SW. I am so used to small portions that I thought I was in heaven and I really piled up my plate, quite disgustingly so I suppose! Didnt go to SW last night as I couldnt face more weight gain! I will go back to it though as it does encourage fruit and veg and forces me to keep an eye on my alcohol intake.

Not read whole thread - but my opinion on diets - they do NOT work.

I have, in the past (heaviest 10 stone 10 lbs, lightest 9 stone 4 lbs), tried Slimming World, Slimming Magazine and Weight Watchers.

I found that some weeks I would lose weight, others gain weight. I always found that, when I eventually stopped going to the clubs, I always ended up the same as when I started - no lighter, no heavier - perhaps this is just me.

For me ... bit drastic, wouldn't recommend it - the only way I have lost weight (not intentionally) and kept it off - for over a year now - was when my husband left me. Stress, etc. made the weight fall off - other people I know in the same situation comfort ate but I was the opposite - still ate normal but weight just dropped off (after having third baby too).

I know I'd lose wight if my DH left me, as he does all the cooking. When we met I was a size 8,as I'm quite short 5f 1, this looked quite, in proportion on me.
However,9 years of his fantastic Italian cooking and two kids later, I'm now a size 16-18( no idea of weight as I don't own a scales).
Obviously, I look over weight, but still dress well and feel good about myself.
I'd love to lose some weight, but have no will power, especially when DH serves up such great tasteing food. I also can't be bothered with complicated points systems, or prepacked meals.

If I had a lovely husband who cooked me nice meals, perhaps I wouldn't be as slim (although I am not exactly slim, just normal) as I am!

I wish ... next time I think I won't marry for love ... more for their cooking, money, etc. (Only joking).

I just enjoy my food sooooo much, DH tends to woo me with food, after a busy day and we've got the kids in bed, it's so nice to sit down to a lovely meal together and share a bottle of wine, it's one of our few enjoyments and I'd feel I was missing out if I had to be picky with my food.

Well I am off in half an hour, and I am hungry!!! I always am at teh end of the day. However I do find SW works for me, I just need to stick to it for a bit.

When are we all going to learn that these weight loss plans/diets just do not work longterm. I read that something like 95% of those who lost weight through Weightwatchers put it back on again (and more)after they stop attending. As someone said on a TV prog last night - the only way to lose weight is change your lifestyle - eat a bit less and excercise a bit more and reduce the high fat foods. Sorry to be boring but these weight loss companies are thriving on our weakness!

You're right Grommit - I might go it alone with a sensible low fat eating plan, more walking and then jump on the scales in, say, 3 months time. Weekly weight fluctuations are so disheartening and paying £3.75 to be told you've gained weight is rubbing salt in the wound somewhat. There again, SW was my only night out so maybe I had better stick with it!

Have you actually been to weightwatchers or any of these clubs? They make it quite clear that it is long term lifestyle changes (eat less, move more)which are the only way to long term weight loss and maintenence and there is nothing magical about weightwatchers.

It is simply a structure plan to help you towards lifetime healthy eating.

They strongly recommend you keep attending the meetings even after reaching your goal and make no bones about the fact that keeping the weight off is the hard bit.

I agree it's just a good healthy diet combined with exercise that keeps you at a stable weight.
I personally don't intend to change my diet much, as we eat basically good food, lots of fresh food, made from scratch, no prepacked stuff and very little out of tins, except tomatoes. All the things that people are advised to eat, we eat already. I know my main problem, is that I just don't have the time to do the amount of exercise, that I used to do pre DS's. However, this will change, as they become less dependent on me and I have more time for myself, it's just something I have to put up with for now. With all the other stresses that family life brings,I'm not prepared to get stressed out over my weight, it's just not important enough to me.

jac, I think that's a great attitude to have. I agree - for me at least, it's not the food I eat, it's the exercise I take or don't take that governs my shape (within reason).

But I think everyone is different. Some people are more sensitive to weight gain via their food intake than others, I am sure. I have lived with stick thin flatmates who eat like horses and plump flatmates who eat like birds.
