Why all of a sudden can I not tolerate underwired bras?

And I mean really can't tolerate it, it makes me so uncomfortable and irritable, anyone else find this happened to them?

Yes! I always wore underwired. But I bought a couple of non wired and realised how uncomfortable wired bras made me feel!

At some point in my 40’s I suddenly couldn’t tolerate underwired bras and jeans.

I switched in my 30s but at a size 32F it’s really hard to find good wire free bras and I live in Panache wire free sports bras and M&S lace bralettes….

Thank you for all the replies. Yes I've put on a bit of weight so I got new bigger bras and it's still happening. (Underwired again, just thought the bigger bras would be enough). I'm menopausal too. I bought non wired too but I feel like I'm lacking the support, I have saggy tits!!

I started wearing Manners London tops and they’ve ruined me for underwires. But I’ve never been so comfortable in my life!!

This has just happened to me over the past few weeks and I thought it was just me. I’ve been really comfortable in wired bras for decades and I’ve needed the structure due to the size of my norms but I’ve now become that woman who takes her bra off when she gets home from work.
Can anyone recommend a supportive bra for big boobs? I’ve tried some of the bralets and they just squash my boobs together and allow them to hang around my elbows

Once I hit 40 couldn’t tolerate them any more. Switched to padded bralettes. Have got some comfy ones from Matalan and Sainsburys at the moment.

Menopause for me… just can’t tolerate them anymore. I’ll wear one occasionally as there are a couple of outfits that look better with more oomph…

but I now wear a triumph bra…got fitted at a proper bra shop.

@loveyoutothemoon try body&bra comfort bras.
Very supportive without wires.

It happened to me too! Day to day I wear some heavy-weight stretchy things I got on Amazon (specifically for the larger lady - so they're more sturdy than other one's I've bought, and don't come with a stupid padding pocket, and the monoboobing is minimal). I used to wear them doubled up for extra support, but now I've very much got to a 'I don't give a fuck' stage and just wear the one at a time and try not to walk too fast :)

I do have one fairly old unwired from Bravissimo that I quite like - it's not much more than two shaped triangles on a sturdy band, but it keeps them separate and is comfortable - but I'll be following some tips from here, and I've also been thinking about learning to make my own TBH..

I also stopped wanting to use tampons at the same time - basically anything mildly uncomfortable I just didn't want to do anymore.

Edit - this looks like the most recent version of the non-wired one I like from bravissimo - unlike most of the others, it's actually 2 cups, so my less than firm boobs don't squish together into one (also minimises sweatiness as they're kept apart), but still looks OK lift-wise - although I'd say a bit more spread out than in a classic underwired : https://www.bravissimo.com/products/nova-bra-ln764/#black-ln764blk

It was menopause that did for my underwires (when I was about 47). I switched to M&S padded bralettes - so comfy and give a little bit of support.

Same for me !!
I'm the same with clothes as well I can't bear anything tight

Same as others. Pregnancy for me and breastfeeding for years. Just hated going back to underwired bras.

This for me too.

I am small and happily also discovered that teen bralettes fit me and are much cheaper!

Judellie · Today 09:22

Wish I had thought of that @Wonkywalker you genius!

Wonkywalker · Today 10:22

@Judellie - please don't take the scissors to all your wire bras!

Please try just one to see if the self help option works for you. I wear Fantasie bras so don't know if removing the wire just works with them as they are designed for a larger bust.

When the wire comes out , you realise why you were so uncomfortable.
