has anyone had breast implants on the nhs?

I would like to know how one qualifies. I know of 2 friends who have had reductions which seemed to be quite straightforward as they said they were having back pain ( both admitted to me it was complete lie). Regardless, I would love to know more information

many thanks x

this makes me so cross

NHS resources are very scarce and shouldnt IMHO beused to fund this sort of thing and then there would be more for others like my family whohave needs.

harleyd · 26/06/2008 11:33

this makes me cross too
it shouldnt be done on the nhs for cosmetic reasons
waste of resources

Piffle · 26/06/2008 11:33

as person who is in constant agony from large breasts I have asked for nhs reduction.
implants hmmm I know psychologically you can be affected but reckon you'd need more than that surely?
what physiological reasons?

yes, if its reconstruction after surgery fair enough

CrushWithEyeliner · 26/06/2008 13:57

Why does this make you cross? - why is a psychological reason any less valid than a physical pain? How ignorant.

This is not because I want implants btw, I just wondered if anyone had had the procedure on the nhs and what qualified. I will not have the attitude of being angry at you at all.

wahay tits ooooooooot

flubdub · 26/06/2008 13:58

It makes people cross because you just said your friends were lying!

Kewcumber · 26/06/2008 13:59

reductions are in fact much less straight forward than implants.

mindalina · 26/06/2008 14:03

I think you can get it done on the NHS if you can demonstrate that your flat-chestedness affects you to the extent that you cannot lead your life as normal. So I suppose, if you were so self-conscious of your chest that you found it hard to go out in public because you thought everyone was staring at you or something, you would qualify.

I know that's very vague and I'm not sure exactly how it works but I'm sure it can be done.

artichokes · 26/06/2008 14:14

I don't really understand why the NHS would offer this surgery even if a woman was very depressed about her flat chest. If she cannot carry on with normal life because she is an A-cup then she needs psychological help. The NHS should be offering high quality therapy but not potentially dangerous and expensive surgery. If being an A cup gets to someone so much then they probably have deeper issues that will not be addressed by physical changes.

Piffle · 26/06/2008 14:30

ignorant?
What an insulting message to someone who is undergoing the process herself abd was offering reasons, I was not judging or condemning?
you need psychological AND physiological reasons for a reduction.
can you demonstrate physiological reasons for implants?
that was all I asked.
am leaving this thread as am roundly offended

well said Piffle

loopylou6 · 26/06/2008 16:37

I think the reason why people are angry is not because they are 'ignorant' but because they may have family or friends thata re on the NHS waiting list for genuine treatment but then you come along telling us that your friends lied to basically save their money and use the NHS's money to get a free boob job, therefore taking away funding from someone who may desperatly need it.

flubdub · 26/06/2008 18:17

Exactly loopylou6 - people have genuine, and PAINFUL reasons to be sat on Nhs waiting lists.
Vanity isnt listed as an nhs ailment i dont think, and therefore, people in real pain have a real reason to be pissed off, imho.

MrsMattie · 26/06/2008 18:19

What a pisstake. If someone is suffering pyschologically because they've got small breasts, they should be offered counselling on the NHS, NOT plastic tits.

Makes me really cross.

CrushWithEyeliner · 26/06/2008 18:24

I wasn't referring to you piffle but you have obviously jumped the gun and stormed off. I actually appreciated your response. How touchy...

Ah I see yes I think my friends were totally out of order for pretending they were in pain to get reductions, I agree. I have known of one person to get implants on the nhs but not well enough to ask her why and was curious if anyone else did and what the reasons were.

Obviously no one here then. Case closed.

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 26/06/2008 18:26

Do you really believe that the NHS should pay for your breast implants? Really? Why? Why can't you save uo for them or get a loan or....not have them because you can't afford them?

TotalChaos · 26/06/2008 18:26

My friend did but over 10 years ago. She got it on psychological grounds. Doubt she would have got funding these days. She's a very persuasive lady so probably put a very good if not strictly honest case.

flubdub · 26/06/2008 18:39

Dont, (because of cases like this, where people lie to get things done on the nhs) our taxes go up a little bit to pay for it?
It may be miniscule, but if everyone did it???

Blandmum · 26/06/2008 18:40

My dh couldn't get the chemotherapy he needed on the NHS. Thankfully his employer paid the drug costs.

Getting bigger tits isn't a priority

TheChicken · 26/06/2008 18:41

i just wnat ot make silly tit gags

tits OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOt

CrushWithEyeliner · 26/06/2008 19:48

Can you please read my posts Mrs M before you start? It is not for myself, for someone in my extended family actually.

Thank you Total chaos. One person who could actually answer my question

OP posts:
FirstimeMummy · 15/04/2011 21:11

i have in 2008, they dont do it if its causing you back pains, if its causing low self esteem. the only reason they do it is if you have 2 cup sizes different
