Has anyone seen this before?

Has anyone seen this before and had a biopsy or tests on it?
My dermatologist said it is remotely unlikely to be melanoma but I am so scared ahead of the biopsy.

Any reassurance would be a great help or if anyone has seen this before and it's been okay.

You’ve got other posts on this haven’t you? I think you need to just wait for the biopsy now, you’ve done all the right things.

AbsoluteHoot · 17/06/2026 19:42

Why not bump your other posts on this?

No-one can tell you any different. You have to wait for it to be tested. I know this must be difficult.

This .

Well, your dermatologist thinks it’s not, but then the hospital dermatologist thought the skin mark my DH had was nothing at all concerning, but it turned out to be melanoma - twice. He’s fine now. You just have to wait for the biopsy results.

SilverPink · 17/06/2026 19:48

I’ve read 4 of your posts on this now. I really don’t think constantly posting is going to help. Take a deep breath and put it out of your mind until your next appointment, concentrate on other things until then.

Upsetbetty · 17/06/2026 19:50

What am I looking at here? I see nothing abnormal!

OP, is it worth you making contact with a Talking Therapy type helpline? Or accessing some other form of online support? I too have seen several of your threads now and your behaviour isn't healthy. Have you tried Macmillan? I contacted them when I had a scare last year.

You aren't offending anyone, but you are being controlled by this and I think you need more help than Mumsnet can offer. I had an excision biopsy last year and had to wait over 2 months for the results - I had to learn how to manage it as I couldn't carry on functioning whilst being gripped by fear. You can do this!

Just trying to see how common it is if people have heard of moles under the thumbnails before that's all. Sorry

All good thank you - it was benign and nothing to worry about. Please please don't let this take over - you are in the process now and have done the right thing.

I have this and have been checked very recently. It was benign pigmentation (melanonychia striata). Yours looks exactly the same.

AnnaMagnani · 17/06/2026 22:20

OP I know you have several posts on this and are deeply traumatized by your mum's death when you were very young.

Do you feel able to share what cancer your mum had? It might help you to know how much cancer treatment has changed as I am guessing she died at least 10 years ago if not longer.

Cancer isn't one disease but many and there is both lots you can do to reduce your risk, and be treated and cured nowadays.

Apparent Leukonychia (Muehrcke's lines): Paired horizontal white lines that do not move as the nail grows, and temporarily disappear when you press on the nail bed. These typically signal low protein (albumin) levels in your blood, often associated with kidney issues, liver disease, or malnutrition.

Tinycottage · 17/06/2026 22:38

I have this on both my thumbnails and it’s just a band of pigment

It was longer than 10 years ago and it wasn't skin cancer she had but it started in her breast and then she had a uterine sarcoma I can't go into too much details as I just cannot cope with it, I miss her so much it's broken me never been the same since 😢 I know thankfully treatment has come on so much since xx
