Is having a daily nap a bad thing?

Im 60, happy and active. I work from home in a stressful job and nearly every day I go to bed for an hour at lunchtime and sleep. I mentioned it to a friend who told me in no uncertain terms that she thinks that is weird . I've never really thought about it before and now I'm wondering if it is? I dont tend to do it at weekends and wonder if its my body's way of dealing with the work stress? I'd welcome any thoughts

If you feel better for it, nap away!

I’ve done it pretty much all my life. When I had an office near my house I’d start work earlier so I could nip home for a siesta. I’ll happily take a nap in my car - I always have an eye mask in the glove box 😂 I loved it when my DDs were small - it was obligatory.

I can nap multiple times a day and still fall asleep at night.

Not weird at all.

Interestingly in recent years I was told I was hypermobile and DS refers to me as his 'undiagnosed Adhd mother'! So these things might play into it.

I can sleep anywhere. On a boat trip, in a night club, in my chair at work, in the car in the car park.

When DC were little I used to do the school run and fall asleep in the car as soon as i parked in the gatage. I think my low iron fed into that though, doesn't happen as much now my iron is over 100.

I would love to be able to nap! I just can't, and I've tried many times, even after 24 hours being awake I couldn't nap and had to wait til night time to go to bed. I do sleep well at night though, and that's my trade off, even menopause hasn't given me sleepless nights.

I have ADHD though and I don't know if this is a contributor.

I don't have one everyday but most days I will nap for an hour or two in the afternoon. Naps are great, I have a condition of which one if the symptoms is daytime sleepiness so a nap in the afternoon can keep me going til bedtime.

I'll keep it simple: Listen to YOUR body. It's speaking to you. Leave your friend to listen to their weird thoughts.

According to a sleep expert (can't recall the name), we should all take daily naps of 20 to 60 minutes, (multiple naps, if of the shorter variety), no matter what age we are.

I'm 62. WFH three days a week and often have a little nap at lunchtime. It's lovely.

Yes to naps! If you’re tired, why not have a quick snooze. It’s fabulous, even better that it feels indulgent.

Busy morning, clean bed, 30 mins shut eye over lunch. Love it.

It’s perfectly normal if it works for you. I do sometimes nap if I can’t keep my eyes open but if it’s too long then I won’t sleep at night but I listen to my body and if I feel tired I go for a lie down, all this keep going, be productive, do something every minute of the day is ridiculous and will put me into an early grave so if I need a rest or a nap then I’ll be having one
