Small white painful spot - down there

Sorry did not know which topic area to put this in.

This morning when I woke up and went for a wee it felt like I had a paper cut down there. Thought not more about it but as the days gone on it's become very sore.

I have previously gotten infected cysts on my Labia Majora which always start with a lump under the skin. This time it's different after investigating I have a small white spot on my Labia Minora. It's stinging like mad and burning, probably because I had to a lot of prodding to find out where the soreness was coming from. There is no lump like id usually get.

I have applied a warm compress to it, but do I need to see a GP. I've had to have antibiotics previously but this is different to what id usually get.

Have you been to a sexual health clinic about this previously or self diagnosed a cyst? It sounds like herpes.

gamerchick · 31/03/2026 22:19

Skip the GP. Go to your local GUM clinic. This is their area and there's no being sent here there and everywhere.

Merseymum1980 · 31/03/2026 22:20

A white spot itself doesnt soumd like herpes to.me however i would go to the sexual health as they are great with general gyny. Much better than most gps

Agreed

Papajohnsisontheway · 31/03/2026 22:30

I've seen the GP previously who said I had an infected cyst. Like i said this is different. I've never been to a GUM clinic.

I’ve had them there before. GP or GUM clinic

Merseymum1980 · 31/03/2026 22:34

They helped.me get.mirena coil amd wrote to gp who finally agreed to hrt (previously refused)

Papajohnsisontheway · 31/03/2026 22:37

I had never even thought of visiting a GUM clinic. I've had a warm compress on it this evening and I'll see how it is tomorrow.

Dont be resitant to gum always worth getting seen by them. It could be a boil

I’ve been recently for a lump as I figured they knew more than my GP and they were really helpful. Even fitted me in at short notice

I wish we could see gynaecologists directly like they do in countries with better healthcare but failing that GUM is the way

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 01/04/2026 00:32

I'd sit in a warm salt bath and put some Savlon on it over night and keep up with the warm compresses and see what happens first.

Papajohnsisontheway · 01/04/2026 10:12

I've come down over night with some kind of flu courtesy of my son , I felt a bit iffy yesterday but today I'm wiped out.
Spot is still there but no worse so I'm going to keep up with the warm compresses and have a bath later for now

The flu type illness fits with herpes

Papajohnsisontheway · 01/04/2026 10:21

My son has been unwell for the last few days with a sore throat and cold. I have a sore throat but I'm sweaty and really achy. I presume I've caught whatever he has.

staff at GUM clinics are very specialised in that area. TBH it sounds like o/p needs GUM, not a gynaecologist as it’s not a reproductive issue. So she would be eating her own and the gynae’s time.

which countries are you referring to that have “better” healthcare? Seeing a GUM specialist almost immediately, for no cost, sounds about as good as it gets…

Gynaecologists treat vulvas fgs

I mean most other European countries

Mightneedencouraged · 01/04/2026 11:02

As for "no cost" I'd prefer to pay a bit and not have a two year waiting list

You can. That’s the great thing about the uk.
You can have private, and have nhs. so no one is left behind.

and actually the reason our private healthcare is reasonably priced, is because the nhs covers the A&E bit which is a massive chunk of the cost in other countries.

I've booked a GP appointment for this evening. I have at least 3 small white spots on labia and just in entrance to vagina. I just feel sore down there and it is burning. My local GUM clinic isn't available today but they are tomorrow. I'll see what the GP says.
I've explained to my partner that I don't think I could have just caught DSs cold. We've been together 8 years and this hasn't happened before. I've explained that it can lie dormant but I feel like he thinks there's more to it. If it is herpes.

It really doesnt sound like herpes to.me, it wouldnt lie dormant for 8 years
Herpes is normally a blister or rash. Googe images

Merseymum1980 · 01/04/2026 11:41

I do think you would be better for gum than gp though.
My friends partmer gave her herpes and warts (cheated a lot) and gp told her was a fungal infection.
Its probably a coincidence about getting sons cold

Papajohnsisontheway · 01/04/2026 11:56

Hopefully is isn't herpes, and it's coincidence that I've caught what my sons had. The soreness started yesterday though at the same time as symptoms of sore throat and feeling off. I've been awake half of the night sweating, aching and feeling flu like.
I have googled images of herpes and it does look similar but I'm really not sure. Hopefully seeing the GP this evening will give me answers and if they say GUM clinic I'll go tomorrow.

Try not to jump to conclusions until you have seen the gum clinic. Wouldnt enterirley trust gp diagnosis

Mightneedencouraged · 01/04/2026 12:37

It definitely can lie dormant for years (most people have no symptoms ever and some people get them suddenly eg at menopause or during pregnancy).
