Mole excision on my back

MissCooCooMcgoo · 10/02/2026 17:13

Had a suspicious mole removed yesterday.

I'm here to have a whinge about it. It's sore and upsetting me 😔 I have a 3 inch scar for a 6mm mole and to top it off, if it turns out to be malignant I've read they're likely to want to go in again and take more skin away!

I am really really not a fan. And a proper wimp with this stuff. I know obviously this is preferable to cancer, before anyone starts.

I'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself and I'm also ill with a cold to top it off so feeling fed up.

Anyone got any healing tips or experience to share?

hope you feel better soon OP, you did the right thing getting it taken off.

I had similar about 18months ago. Was really itchy until the stitches came out. I got DH to rub Bio oil on me. It smells nice and relieved the itching. I have a stonking scar though!

Seagullstopitnow · 11/02/2026 21:00

No tips or anecdotes
I did read the thread title as Mole exorcism though if that helps?

TUGGY2006 · 11/02/2026 22:52

I've had 8 basal cells removed from my forehead and recently had 2 on my back removed. I have to say I found them very irritating when healing. I did get great relief from a homeopathy cream from Ainsworth called emergency cream.

How are you feeling now OP, I had mine removed on Tuesday, it is really quite sore. I think the position of mine means every time I move it feel like its pulling the stitches and definitely starting to feel sorry for myself.so no advice but solidarity! Hopefully a few more days will turning a corner 🙏

Ohthatsabitshit · 12/02/2026 08:21

Poor you. That sounds sore and awkwardly placed. How long do they expect it to take to heal?

99pwithaflake · 12/02/2026 08:23

I had two removed just over a year ago - the scars have faded and both came back normal. We have a history of melanoma in the family so I get my GP to check me over once a year.

Oh I'm so with you! It is feeling a bit better every day even only 3 days in. Isn't the body a miraculous thing.

Mine is also somewhere where no matter how I sit I can feel it. They do tape it up very securely though so try not to worry too much.

DH changed my dressing today. That was a challenge as I felt sick at the though of it 🤢

But it was OK in the end in case your worried too. Mine is also sore now towards the end of the day and my back muscles ache. But I think that's because I'm not sitting normally.

This is reassuring, thank you 😊

Two weeks before stitches out. Which on googling means it should be surface-heald at least. 4-6 months for full healing.

I had one removed from my back, I am left with quite a big scar, I tell people it’s where I was shot 🤣. Mine came back as pre cancerous but luckily they took it all out and a lot of the surrounding area.

It was pretty sore after and I stupidly removed the butterfly strips with the dressing and my lovely mum had to patch me back up.

Pebbles16 · 12/02/2026 20:54

The hospital suggested using Vaseline put on with a cotton bud to aid the healing. Mine seemed a very big incision for the size of the mole but it was very deep (I made the mistake of looking up as they took it out to put it in the pot thing - gah!).
I have a large-ish but incredibly neat scar. It's on the back of my leg so not somewhere I particularly look at. But when it was healing I could not sit comfortably despite the much packing and padding.

Butterfly strips 😳 I've got full on stitches in mine. I would be terrified of butterfly strips popping open.

I had virtually the same surgery on my back for a query malignant melanoma. Thankfully it was benign, I hope yours is too.

I took paracetamol, ibuprofen and codeine but after a couple of says the pain had gone.

RedRiverShore6 · 12/02/2026 21:00

I had a largish BCC excised from my thigh, 4 inch scar which a year later was barely noticeable apart from a dent which seems to be filling in over time so hopefully yours won't be noticeable after a bit of time. I think the aches and pains are from holding yourself differently, I walked a bit stiffly and was quite conscious of trying not to pull the stitches, stitches came out after two weeks by the nurse at GP surgery.

MissCooCooMcgoo · 12/02/2026 21:03

My war wound if anyone's interested

I’ve had lots removed. Do make sure they take all the stitches out as DH ended up removing three of mine that got left behind.

Kingdomofsleep · 12/02/2026 21:09

I had one removed from my side, exactly where a bra waistband digs. My dd was a toddler at the time and I wasn't allowed to lift her for over a week in case the stitches popped. It has since gone keloid and the same dd said "ugh what's that" when she saw it recently. (Cue a lecture from dh about bodies having differences.) It wasn't even cancerous in the end! So all that for nothing!

I hope yours doesn't go keloid op. If you get a nice flat scar then you'll forget all about it in time.

I have a moderately large scar (not keloid) on the back of my thigh from a childhood accident, and because I can't easily see it, I forget it's there and I'm not self conscious about it. I still think I look fab in a swimsuit, no one has ever mentioned it. Yours will be the same hopefully as you can't see it yourself

MissCooCooMcgoo · 12/02/2026 22:28

Had an electronic letter via the NHS app for f2f follow up in may. It's that good? Bad? Standard?

OP posts:
Kingdomofsleep · 12/02/2026 22:29

I think if it's face to face they have something to tell you but it might not necessarily be bad, it might just be "we need to do more tests" or such-like.

I didn't have F2F to tell me my mole was benign, it was just a phone call.

Crimsonbow · 12/02/2026 22:35

Slightly different as was in covid times but mine was cancer and they removed more tissue within a few weeks. The gap until May is so long that surely yours must be benign. Have you got a phone number to ring?

If your scar does start to go keloid (bumpy), kelocote is amazing stuff. I have had more major surgery since with bigger scars that are much neater than my melanoma one cos of this gel.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/02/2026 22:37

I had a much smaller one removed last year. Oh I made a massive song and dance about it. Do you whinge away love. Hope it feels better tomorrow

May is quite a long way off. My friend was called back in 2 weeks when hers was malignant.
I got a letter 8 weeks after surgery to tell me what mine was (atypical but not malignant)

Anon1231990 · 03/03/2026 14:05

@MissCooCooMcgoo that sounds very fast for an appointment letter, fingers crossed it means there are no issues for you

My timeliness were:

21st Jan - GP
28th Jan - Dermatology
10th Feb - Excision / Biopsy
20th Feb - Call from dermatology to book results appointment
3rd Mar - Results (Had to delay due to working away), unfortunately mine is a Melanoma, so refered for wide local excision and sentinal node biopsy in the next week.

I dont think they would leave it 3 months if it was bad but thats just based on my experience 🤞
