He's just 1 - tumbled from top to bottom, fall slowed by blankets stacked up on the side/ bottom corner.
He cried of course but his nose was bleeding, not sure if just bonked nose or can it be a sign of head injury?

I'm trying not to panic. He's having some milk and quiet now.

He has a big bump on his forehead as well
Now panicking slightly.

Please someone, do we go to A&E?

OP posts:
MeMySonAndI · 12/06/2008 12:34

Is he alert and moving well?

There are some guidelines about head bumps in NHS direct. I'm off to llok for them

EffiePerine · 12/06/2008 12:35

Is the blood red (normal) or watery?

WonderingWhy · 12/06/2008 12:36

He is Ok, just subdued. The blood was thickish, has stopped now. Poor thing, thanks effie I can't think straight to google.

GeoffWode · 12/06/2008 12:36

TBH if there's blood I'd probably take him to A&E. But I'm a worrier. (He's almost certainly FINE though )

missingtheaction · 12/06/2008 12:36

are you worried and if so what about? any symptoms? do you have local walk-in minor injuries centres nearby

WonderingWhy · 12/06/2008 12:36

Thanks Memyson I mean!

go to a and e. he is young and you should get him checked out, especially if he fell from top to bottom. My wee one did this at 10 months old, when i didnt realise the stair gate hadnt clicked in properly behind me and was in the kitchen by it, putting the shopping away...i missed catching her t=shirt by a hairs breath...she was okay but the doctor told me i had defiantely done the right thing in taking her straight down to be looked at, to be on the safe side. I hope your son will be the same, they are quite resilient at that age.

MeMySonAndI · 12/06/2008 12:36

I have found the guide but it is not qorking at the moment, is this

IndigoMoon · 12/06/2008 12:36

ermmmm

i had a head bump wit hds last week, he got tried soon after but it was nap time.

he was fine and alert though, no marks and his eyes were fine.

so i put him to bed and woke him after an hour. he woke fine and played fine all day.

EffiePerine · 12/06/2008 12:37

Why not ring NHS Direct to check? If he;s fine, not sleepy and seems his normal self he's prob OK.

Pinkjenny · 12/06/2008 12:37

I'd take him and have him checked, although I'm sure he's fine, probably quiet because he got a fright.

missingtheaction · 12/06/2008 12:40

nhs direct advice is to call nhs direct 0845 46 47

missingtheaction · 12/06/2008 12:43

as long as he's not confused, wobbly on his legs, bleedign from the ears, bleeding uncontrollably from anywhere, weeping clear fluid from anywhere, or in obvious pain then he is very likely OK but they do like to check over littleuns

WonderingWhy · 12/06/2008 12:43

Thanks have read link, he seems tired but was before as well! Hard to tell, arghhh

I've put arnica on bump and will observe for an hour maybe, see if he is back to normal. If not we'll go up to hosp.
No walk in centres here, tis too provincial

We do have a car though and hospital isn't far.
Thanks all.
I was about to go and 'rescue' him for the 50th time this morning, he thinks it is a big game and as we are moving we have taken down the stair gate [stupidly]

I#'ll let you know how he is later.

SoupKitchen · 12/06/2008 12:51

If you ring NHS direct as I did just to make sure you have done all the right things, they will probably advise you to go to A&E.
When this happened to me I was pretty sure DS was ok although did have slight bleed from nose and bruising on bridge of nose.
Nhs direct Informed me that I needed to go to A&E or I was being Neglectful I felt seking advice was anything but.
Terrified of fallback from this I went, and Yes he was fine, BUT A&E said any significant fall should be checked out.

WonderingWhy · 12/06/2008 12:54

Ok, we will go up now.
Thankyou - yes I am afraid of being neglectful too.
He seems fine now but don't know of course if something might be wrong...will they x ray his head?

I don't like the thought of entertaining him and ds1 in a crowded A&E in the rain if we have to wait 3 hours. But it might be better than not going and then he has a fit or something...

EffiePerine · 12/06/2008 12:56

Take a few toys and snacks and drinks with you

WonderingWhy · 12/06/2008 12:56

Actually we have a DR's appt later on at 4. Do you think the Dr would be able to check for damage, or is A&E the only option? I'm not sure what they will do to/for him.

VictorianSqualor · 12/06/2008 13:08

I'd wait til doc's appointment personally.
It's not like you'll be seen much sooner at A&E.
Just keep an eye on him, as long as he doesn't get worse then take him to the docs.
Is the appointment for him?

SoupKitchen · 12/06/2008 13:13

If you have a GP appt that would be fine. DS decided to do it just before bed on a BH sunday

Pinkjenny · 12/06/2008 13:15

When dd fell off the bed, they just checked her over for bumps, looked at her eyes and general demeanour, branded her 'bright and alert' and sent us on our way.

I felt better having gone though, but this isn't anything the doctor can't do at 4.

NotABanana · 12/06/2008 13:17

If you are worried enough to get him checked I would go now.

He should be prioritised as he ahs had a head injury.

The couple of times I have had to take my son we were seen straight away.
