I have had this feeling a few times recently, not all the time, but usually when I need to go or after I’ve just been.
The only way I can describe it is maybe it’s a nerve or muscle spasm, almost like a contraction in your mum, which feels uncomfortable but not painful.
Does anyone know what I mean?

I only ever got this on my period. I think it’s a nerve thing.

Good old Javelin Arse! I always sense that it's caused higher up in your rectum/colon but sort of refers downwards so it's the sense that someone is sticking a sharp stake up your bum. At least, that's the impression I get. Mine is triggered by tummy upsets and stress. DS (17) gets it too, as far as I can tell with another person. I've taught him the phrase 'javelin arse' but also the proper term, in case he ever needs to mention it to a medic...

Rectal spasm hurts like hell. Treatment.... lie on your back.on the floor. Pull your knees up to your chest with your hands and lie in this foetal position until it eases, or until the thunderous fart arrives.

I have IBS which flares up every couple of years. Sometimes constipation and sometimes diarrhea. It feels like wind or an oncoming big fart (sorry) and can be quite painful. I feel relief once its gone. had no idea it has a name.

I had it for a couple of years after a caesarean. It was horribly painful but lasted left than 15 minutes. It stopped eventually and I’ve never had it since. Ds grown up now.

I have IBS and endometriosis so get this frequently unfortunately. It's not a nice feeling.

Good to find a reasonably recent thread on this, i get it occasionally and it woke me up last night, so painful! Tried relaxing, pushing, nothing helps, just had to wait for it to pass. Not worth taking painkillers, it went within 10 mins and is so unpredictable, happens maybe 6-8 times a year. What causes it? I am peri, started hrt recently, have a mirena so no noticeable periods, bowels open every day, no history of Gynaecology or bowel issues, have always been fit and healthy. Do we just put it down to stress?

I have had these pains since I was diagnosed with Crohns 40 years ago and sometimes last for 15/20 minutes and it is bloody painful and makes me cry. I read on a US website to use peppermint in carrier oil and put it in my anus then massage all that area. Also a bath seems to help as does getting down on all fours.
Didn't know it had a name so going to read about it now.
