No covid jab this year?

elliejjtiny · 09/11/2025 15:51

Me, dh and the dc have had the covid jab each winter since 2021. Me, DH and DS1 are in what was originally group 6 so we are considered vulnerable but not extremely vulnerable. Not sure about the other dc as i think children are categorised differently but they are vulnerable rather than extremely vulnerable too.

This year we got invited for our flu jabs as usual. No covid jab invites for any of us. I queried it and was told this year it's only over 75's who get it which makes no sense at all. I'm quite nervous now.

It’s not just for over 75s but it is only for people with weakened immune systems
i am 41 and had mine

columnatedruinsdomino · 09/11/2025 16:23

Hi op, yes I was previously a vulnerable category but not this year. I and many of my older friends have paid £98 for a private one. I think it's Pharmadoctor that checks your nearest pharmacy.

ForCraftyWriter · 09/11/2025 16:24

You can book it privately as well now which you couldn’t before

Halloweennight · 10/11/2025 00:53

It’s very short sighted how limited eligibility is now. You can get it privately if you can afford it.

Meadowfinch · 10/11/2025 02:04

This year it is being offered to the over-75s and those with potentially compromised immune systems. I was offered a covid jab this year, as having a potentially weakened immune system, but declined due to previous bad reactions.

You can pay for a covid jab if you are worried. £98 in most pharmacies.

ultraviolet4753 · 10/11/2025 02:13

Apparently the private jab is more up to date than the nhs jab. Mine told me to phone ahead to check they had stock. £90-£95 here.
My mum can't get it on nhs this time, but got covid before she could get the private jab!

WonderingAndOverthinking · 10/11/2025 03:46

I’ve not been called this year either, was classed as extremely vulnerable previously.

Marmalade71 · 10/11/2025 05:09

Recommend shopping around to pay for one. Like you I was group 6, get the nhs flu jab but decided to pay for the covid one after a scary thread on here about the current covid strain 🫣
Anyway, £75 well spent imo

NowCarless · 10/11/2025 05:18

It might be worth checking whether your company will pay for you to have one. Mine does, I'm getting it next week...I only found out about the offer accidentally on the company Intranet when I stumbled across it!

muddyford · 10/11/2025 08:01

I'm a carer for frail and housebound DH. He got both jabs but I didn't. I only got the 'flu one. I asked who would care for DH if I got Covid but they didn't answer.

Certainly in our area the ‘free on the NHS’ jabs for eligible patients are being done at the local pharmacy alongside people who want to book privately - so there’s no difference in the vaccine being given.

weericky · 10/11/2025 21:47

My Dad was considered so vulnerable he had to shield for months and the government sent him a weekly food parcel. Not even a vaccine this year.

CharlotteCChapel · 10/11/2025 22:11

Ive had my flu jab and need to ask the doctors if my acute kidney failure means I can have a covid jab.

It’s very wrong. I don’t know why we are so stringent in this country.

Twiglets1 · 10/11/2025 22:15

I got invited for a flu jab as have asthma but no free Covid jab this year for asthmatics. Paid for a private one at local pharmacy.

My dh was the same , and I've also qualified these past years but not this.
We decided to fork out £80 each and had it done privately.

AlexaBeQuiet · 10/11/2025 22:18

I was told I’d be called between 30/09/25 and 31/01/26, may try and phone them tomorrow. In Wales so can’t book online. Would like it done before the silly season starts.

Growlybear83 · 10/11/2025 22:28

I had already followed the link to book my flu jab, which also included an option for the Covid jab, and I’d had the injections before I realised I don’t meet the criteria this year. No-one in the pharmacy queried it when I turned up for my appointment and went ahead with my Covid jab.

MySweetGeorgina · 10/11/2025 22:30

Can you afford it privately?

GlassofRosePorfavor · 10/11/2025 22:34

the only bit of excitement I had on hitting 50 was getting a free flu jab! Only happened once and now been binned

Do you have a link for this @ultraviolet4753, im concerned mine is done on the NHS and it might not meet requirements.

Garamousalata · 10/11/2025 22:40

I’ve paid for my Covid jab at Boots.

I'm in the same boat. Thinking of paying for one as I don't know what would happen if I get covid.

That’s interesting, where did you hear that?
