I hahve had 2 children, both vaginal births. After the first one I had 3 or 4 vaginal stitches, and nothing after the second one.
pre kids I have quite a tight vagina and did lots of kegels and I think it was all ok after the first one.

After the second child, nearly 3yrs ago, I have felt that the inside of my vagina is a bit "baggy", but the kegels seem to work-I can feel them tighten up and I can feel this internally if a put a finger in.

Recently, in the last 3months or so, I havhe found it harder to pass a motion, it just takes longer and I seem to need 2-3 goes.
I have some pressure building up around my bum and when I strain (a little) it just deosn't seem that productive.

I know it sounds grim, but it has felt like my perineum is bulging around this area when I need a poo. I've never felt it before so it is hard to know if this is always the case with everyone, or if I have somthing new and different going on.

Thanks for reading so dar- it gets worse so avert your eyes if squeamish.
Today I out my finger in my vagina after an unproductive poo session and could feel an enormous "sausage" of poo through the back wall of my vagina. it seemd to be bulging right into it

Does this sound normal to you guys?
I've never investigated around there before kids (why would you?) and have only been poking aorund like this since I had a problem, so I don't know if it is normal or not.

Any advice/ecperience of what I wonder may eb a rectal muscle tear/dysfunction.
Please anwswer_ i am a little bit desperate. It would be goof if any of you felt brave enough to have a feel yourselves (not feeling me!) and let me know how your bits feel.

I am not a troll, but obviously a name change is in order here {sad]

Please help me out- you're my only hope

I have

sounds like bog standard (geddit? ) constipation to me - have you ever been constipated before? it can be pretty odd if you've not had it before.

lots of water, senna tablets and relax.

Weirdbumstuff · 05/06/2008 20:44

I am not really constiapted, it isn't that hard when it comes out.
But I think it is worth trying some laxatives, good suggestion.
Thanks

Has anyone actually had a pelvic floor breakdown around the bum area? Or does that not exist?

OP posts:
LittleMyDancing · 05/06/2008 20:47

not sure if that's ever happened, but it could also be trapped wind - that can feel pretty odd if it's trapped quite far down, and it can feel like you need to go but then there's nothing there.

if you're worried though, go to your GP, just to set your mind at rest.

Weirdbumstuff · 05/06/2008 20:49

I felt it, it is poo, all bulging into my vagina through the back wall.
Oh, I know I should see Dr but I thought I'd ask around a bit first.
And it isn't the sort of thing you talk about in real life

OP posts:
liath · 05/06/2008 20:54

Could be a prolapse? Your GP should be able to tell. It's where the wall of the rectum kind of bulges into the vagina, it's fairly common. It might be worth seeing a physio.

Wallace · 05/06/2008 20:56

Could it be a rectocele?

LittleMyDancing · 05/06/2008 20:56

ahem, this might also be tmi but at a smear test a while ago the nurse asked if I was constipated - apparently if you are it's harder the get the speculum in, so you can definitely feel it in your vagina even when just normal constipation.

but without knowing how much it bulges, hard to say if it's normal! I would pop to the GP to check.

KatyMac · 05/06/2008 20:58

It sounds like a rectocele

It can be uncomfortable/painful

You can push your thumb up & back in your vagina and it helps the poo come out

You want to do this rather then let the poo build up

A way to expalin it if you hold your hands up = facing each other about 4 inches apart - that is what your anal passage should look like.

Turn your left hand through 90 degrees and stick your thumb out - that is the bit the poo is getting stuck in

I would advise seeing a physio

girlnextdoor · 05/06/2008 21:12

I am 99.9% sure that what you have is a prolapse of your back- posterior wall of your vagina.

I had a prolapse of the front wall, and had it repaired and I know he also tightened up the back wall- just in case.

What happpens is that the vaginal wall bulges inwards under pressure from the rectum and the bulge you feel is the bowel.

My GP told me that some women with bad prolapses of the back wall have to insert a finger to support the vagina in order to pass a motion.

You need to see a gynae and maybe have the op to get it fixed.

tazmosis · 05/06/2008 21:22

I agree Girlnextdoor it sounds like a posterior (sp?) prolapse. Apparently there's quite a simple op you can have.

girlnextdoor · 05/06/2008 21:26

I had the op as I said- it's not that simple- well, the op is but you have to be careful for a good 6 weeks afterwards and not lift anything heavy etc. Driving can be out for a week or two as well. Def. worth having done otherwise it will not go away on its own.

ninja · 05/06/2008 21:32

Well whatever you have I do too so I was about to say it was normal until I read the messages!! I can't believe that I'm not changing my name and I'm admitting that I've done what KatyMac suggested.

I'm pg so I'll just hope they notice during a routine exam!!

ninja · 05/06/2008 21:38

I've now just read this link - a bit graphic but basically quite informative!

Sounds like surgery not always necessary and diet change a good idea

lucyellensmum · 05/06/2008 21:49

loving the name

I have this and i have some urinary incontinence, it goes hand in hand apparently.

Yes, it probably is a weakened pelvic floor so its kegel city from now on in The pelvic floor helps with the rectum too.

What i was told too that the angle at which you sit when you do a poo is important. Basically, lean forward with your feet on two bog rolls to bring your knees up (what an image!!) This helps the rectum achieve the right angle to "go" Sorry, that is so completely TMI but that is what my physio told me to do - uggggh

KatyMac · 05/06/2008 21:56

I had my incontinence fixed

It is fab

But my rectocele is still a nuisense

ThingOne · 05/06/2008 22:04

I would go and see a GP. I had odd things like this that I thought were childbirth related and would pass or improve with pelvic floor exercises. In my case it turned out to be a rectal cancer. Now this is very rare in women under fifty so it's highly unlikely this is the cause but I do now feel it's my duty to send off everyone talking about stuff like this for a proper investigation!

colacubes · 05/06/2008 22:20

Go to the docs, will make you feel so much better knowing you are doing something about it, dont be embarrassed, my fanjo is proper buggered, always having it prodded and poked, and not in a good way!!

Docs in the morning, or else! x

Weirdbumstuff · 05/06/2008 22:32

Just read the limk- thanks.
And i didn't say but the problem started after I had a really really nasty cough that lasted a month I was also piddling myself when coughing, but thankfully that has settled down now.
I am also pretty overwieght
Yet another reason to lose weight, along with the hereditory cardiac disease and high blood pressure and diabetes

Thanks for you help and I really appreciate thaat you were able to talk about it to me.

Glad to hear that surgery has helped too- did it change your experince of sex too? - you don't have to answer, girlnextdoor

OP posts:
girlnextdoor · 06/06/2008 07:42

My experience of sex- now, what's that, lol!

Errr yes it did- but I have to say I was very worried to begin with in case it all fell apart again! I felt quite tight to start with, but not too tight- I had discussed this with my gynae beforehand and he assured me he would leave enough room for DH but not too much room!

So yes, I am tighter, but it is now around 17 years since it was done and I can honestly say I am not like I was pre- babies- you never go back to what you were.

However, I would say have it done if you are suffering- it will only get worse or at best stay the same. I did Kegels til I was blue in the face and had physio- electric stimulation of my pelvic floor- first, but neither was enough.

Hope you get sorted.

Twinkie1 · 06/06/2008 07:45

I was like this before I had surgery - was constanly constipated and using suppositories - surgeon said I was straining sideways and so not passing anything - now I have been nipped and tucked I go once a day regulalrly - it is soooo much nicer - a relief!!! (Bleugh!!)

Go and see your doctor and et reffered to a ob gyn who will be able to have a look ang hopefully remedy all your probs with a little op.

HereComeTheGirls · 06/06/2008 07:58

They won't do the op if you want more children though, they insist on waiting until you have had your family or the work is just undone again.

Twinkie1 · 06/06/2008 07:59

They did mine - I was just told I would have to have a c section - although I really don't want anymore children!

HereComeTheGirls · 06/06/2008 08:06

Twinkie..really? I was refused one on those grounds must reinvestigate!!

HereComeTheGirls · 06/06/2008 08:09

Weirdbumstuff - I wouldn't despair yet, a cough makes everything so much worse, I have a prolapsed bladder and after a cough it is terrible but then improves a lot, so it is possible that you have had a mild problem which has only become noticeable/made things difficult for you since you had the cough.

Twinkie1 · 06/06/2008 08:10

If you have private healthcare ask to see a guy called Mr Patwardhan - he is ace and so understanding and informative - he teaches other surgeons to put in TOTs and do repair work down there - I have now a designer vagina and a bum that actually works - and I can run, bounce, hop, laugh and sneeze without peeing myself.

He is based at Blackheath Hospital in London.

Mind you he does to NHS work at a hospital in Woolwich.

You probably live in the Isle of Skye or something don't you?
