I’m so thankful that my children are past the stage where they where they were constantly coming home Ill. Maybe their immune system is jsut stronger now and so they’ve not been ill a while. I have an older child who had the vaccine many years ago so I forgot how she took it. He should have had it a while ago and I kept putting it off but they have around a week holidays coming up so I’m thinking to book it around then.

Can anyone share how ill their children became after they had theirs at 3 years and the symptoms that followed? I’m wondering if a week will be enough for them to recover. I’d prefer to have it done when theirs a longer holidays so theirs enough recovery time but I worry about a breakout and struggling to get a hold of an appointment. I rang a few weeks back and they already couldn’t fit me in

Two of mine had no symptoms. One had a slight fever for less than 24 hours.

Sal820 · 13/10/2025 21:15

24 hours max. I think you're worrying too much.

amy12464 · 13/10/2025 21:16

That’s very reassuring . Just anxious because I’ve read online that they get a rash too a few days after the vaccine. Just not sure what to expect apart from a temperature . Thank you

What on earth are you on about? Why have you put it off? Stop reading stuff online about vaccines and protect your children from illnesses they can die from.

TheHairInClaudiasEyes · 13/10/2025 21:19

No side effects whatsoever for either of my two DC.

Wolfiefan · 13/10/2025 21:20

I was a child before MMR was a thing. My mum was advised not to vaccinate me as I had allergies. I had M M and R.
My kids are vaccinated. I was really ill as a child and lucky to come out of it unscathed.

craigth162 · 13/10/2025 21:21

No symptoms at all for either of mine.

Where exactly have you read this, did the person who wrote it have medical qualifications?

Rocknrollstar · 13/10/2025 21:24

You should be worried about your child getting measles which is a serious illness. They could even die from it and might also give it to others. Children shouldn’t be allowed to attend school if they haven’t been vaccinated.

amy12464 · 13/10/2025 21:24

My older child is up to date on all hers and my youngest has them all apart from this one. This gave me the reassurance I needed thank you everyone.

None of mine had any symptoms or reaction to it.

It’s on the nhs website. Rash, swollen glands etc.

They can have a delayed reaction 10 days or so after I think but really it’s nothing to worry about.

Glitchymn1 · 13/10/2025 21:28

Bit like a cold, bit grumpy and slept a lot that night. Bit like when I get a flu jab.
The side effects you have quoted are pretty rare I think?

Do you know what the reaction is? Temp or rash?

Did yours have a delayed reaction I’ve heard some symptoms can pop up like a week later too.

I had the mmr booster myself on recommendation from the practice nurse before travel, no symptoms at all. Also had the normal diphtheria, tetanus et al one as well as hep a and b

Catlady724 · 13/10/2025 21:35

One of mine had it about 10 days ago, no side effects other than being a bit more tired / clingy for a few days. Sore arm for one day. That’s it, barely noticed it to be honest.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 13/10/2025 21:37

I had the MMR last year, aged 56. No issues at all. I appreciate I'm not a 4 year old, but just saying to illustrate that it's possible to have no side effects (and that anyone can have it, at any age).

ChocHotolate · 13/10/2025 21:38

Any side effects from the vaccine will be tiny compared to the potential catastrophic effects of measles. Something like 1 in 4 or 5 children who contract measles need hospital care and a significant proportion of those will have life altering complications.
Vaccines are victims of their own success, we (as a population) have forgotten the impact these diseases had 100yrs ago

TeenLifeMum · 13/10/2025 21:39

My 3dc had no reaction at all.

Bluebottlerecycling · 13/10/2025 21:43

Neither of my two had any reaction.

But to be honest what you should be worrying about is that she hasnt had it.

herbalteabag · 13/10/2025 21:54

My son had it as a five year old and had no symptoms at all.

amy12464 · 13/10/2025 22:13

Thank you everyone I’ll be ringing tomorrow morning for an appointment. I really appreciate everyone response! X

Measles can be a deadly disease. Mumps can render boys sterile. Rubella jab means you are safe during pregnancy MMR has been available for decades, why wouldn't you vaccinate your child OP?
Just seen you're going ahead, you've made the right choice.
