I’m so thankful that my children are past the stage where they where they were constantly coming home Ill. Maybe their immune system is jsut stronger now and so they’ve not been ill a while. I have an older child who had the vaccine many years ago so I forgot how she took it. He should have had it a while ago and I kept putting it off but they have around a week holidays coming up so I’m thinking to book it around then.

Can anyone share how ill their children became after they had theirs at 3 years and the symptoms that followed? I’m wondering if a week will be enough for them to recover. I’d prefer to have it done when theirs a longer holidays so theirs enough recovery time but I worry about a breakout and struggling to get a hold of an appointment. I rang a few weeks back and they already couldn’t fit me in

Nothing at all. I’d forgotten it even happened actually until this thread.

I got measles when I was young, prior to the introduction of the vaccine. I'm now in my early 60s. My eyesight was affected, and I don't know how much longer I'll be able to drive. I'm making preparations for where I live based upon being blind in the future. It's quite restricting.

Mossstitch · 13/10/2025 23:28

Couple of babies I know who had it recently came out in a rash but perfectly well in themselves so don't panic if that happens💐

Dairymilkisminging · 13/10/2025 23:32

I've got 5 kids and out of all 5 only one got a slight rash which im not 100% sure was caused by jab or just in contact with something only bothered them for 24 hours itchy then was fine. Could still see it for a couple of days but it didn't bother them. Rest had either no symptoms or a bit of a temp

Good for you. I promise you are making the safest choice for your kids.

It can be really tough with the amount of false information and lies spread, you asked the questions, listened to answers and have opted to protect your child.
You are a good mum x

Thank you. It doesn’t help that friends that I’ve been close to for a while I’ve just found out are anti vax with all these scary stories. One even a nurse 😩 just booked him in he’ll be getting it this month. Thanks everyone!

I was a child before MMR was a thing. My mum was advised not to vaccinate me as I had allergies. I had M M and R.
My kids are vaccinated. I was really ill as a child and lucky to come out of it unscathed.

I wasn’t allowed the MMR as I was a forceps delivery (it was a new vaccine and they weren’t sure if it might cross the brain barrier). Also had M M and R and was left with some hearing loss as a result.

DD had the MMR the minute she was old enough.

Sassylovesbooks · 14/10/2025 10:12

It's been a while since my son had the MMR (he's 15 now) but like most vaccines, he only had a slight after effects. No one can give you a definitive answer, because every child reacts differently. Some children don't have any side effects at all, and others do. You need to stop worrying and book your child in to receive the vaccine. My Mum caught Rubella as a teenager, as her parents didn't allow her to have any vaccines, and she was really unwell.

Superscientist · 14/10/2025 20:25

My daughter had a fever the day of the MMR and she did get the rash on day 10 but she didn't get unwell with the rash and was completely fine.

My uncle was born with a heart defect due to my gran catching rubella in pregnancy. He died in infancy having spent his life in hospital and my dad has hearing loss and eye sight problems due to contracting measles as a child.

CitricAcidIsRubbish · 14/10/2025 20:32

My son had MMR side effects. Bit of a temperature for a few days (non consecutive) in the following 2 weeks. Had a rash and felt a bit grumpy. Calpol and lots of cuddles helped.
Honestly, he had what would be regarded as the more extreme side of a normal reaction and I would 100% vaccinate him again (no hesitation). The diseases can be life ruining or even cost their lives...
Well done for getting it booked! 💪

gamerchick · 14/10/2025 20:37

I'd be getting the MMR if I could. What's going on atm is well scary. Measles isn't something I would fuck around with

Bitzee · 14/10/2025 20:42

One of mine had a fever about a week afterwards, but she did have the MMRV so she might have been reacting to the chickenpox bit IDK, but she had a dose of paracetamol, slept it off and was fine the next morning so no big deal and well worth it be protected. My other kid had just the MMR and nothing. You’ve made the right decision.

InMyShowgirlEra · 14/10/2025 20:58

I'm so confused. We went to the doctor, DD cried for about 15 minutes, she video called her sister, we went and got ice-cream and forgot all about it. Where are you getting these horror stories?

user1476613140 · 14/10/2025 21:00

All four have had everything offered as I am not leaving them vulnerable.

WildWorldKitty · 14/10/2025 21:03

No symptoms whatsoever for my DC.

GreenFrogYellow · 14/10/2025 21:04

amy12464 · 13/10/2025 21:29

Do you know what the reaction is? Temp or rash?

Both I think. Not that common though.

MumoftwoNC · 14/10/2025 21:06

My dd got the "rash" 10d after her MMR but I'm putting it in inverted commas because it's not like an ordinary rash, it was just like someone dotted her face with a red felt tip. No other symptoms at all, no pain or itchiness or anything, just a few red dots. And I'm in an area relatively high in measles because of low uptake of the vaccine, so she really might come across measles, so this jab might save her life.

And op, you don't even have to pay money for it. We are so lucky in this country honestly, I'm glad I chose to have my kids here.

captainoctopus · 14/10/2025 21:12

My daughter had a slight temperature and a couple of spots.
OTOH my husband's step-grandmother had a son who died of measles in the 1940s at the age of 21. A neighbour in the 1980s had a son with brain damage from measles. Be thankful we have a vaccine.

londongirl12 · 14/10/2025 21:39

No symptoms at all for us.

Notagain75 · 14/10/2025 21:41

My children and grandchildren didn't have any after affects at all other than being a bit off the next day.

amy12464 · 15/10/2025 01:22

Thank you ladies . It’ll be during the one week holidays so he’ll be home anyway and able to rest or any symptoms he might get. It’s been so insightful reading everyone stories and experiences and I’m so sorry for those who suffered trauma and loss due to some of these illness. Honestly the idea of their being an outbreak terrified me and I know I’ll feel so much more assured with him vaxxed should there ever be one

OP posts:
Beenwhereyouareagain · 15/10/2025 07:30

He could possibly have a uncomfortable reaction, but from experience I can say that all 3 of the illnesses are much worse than uncomfortable. Some people are left with truly dreadful aftereffects or even die. So please get this done as soon as you can. We are having breakouts in a lot of places in the US, and it's getting worse everyday.

(MAHA? Making America Healthy Again?? RFK, Jr is a nut job and his parents must be rolling in their graves. IMHO🙄)
