Bach Rescue Remedy any good?

I’ve got a very stressful event coming up and wondering if this would help with nerves/fluttery tummy?

I’ve never taken anything like this before so before I buy it, does it work or do anything at all?

I’ve used it in similar circumstances and found it helpful. I use the spray.

I was once on a crowded train and a lady near me started to get panicky so she had a blast of mine and said it calmed her so much she was buying some.

(And before anyone says it was grim to share, the dispenser doesn’t go into your actual mouth so there were no bodily fluids exchanged!)

ThisBadTimeIsTakingForever · 10/10/2025 18:11

No, it really doesn’t work that way tbh.

If you suffer anxiety inducing events frequently, a GP may prescribe propranolol to take as & when to help with this, but if it’s a one off it’s unlikely.

TheDenimPoet · 10/10/2025 18:15

I used to use it quite a lot when I was at uni, not sure it helped in any way other than slight placebo.

DavidKeanu · 10/10/2025 18:20

It's supposed to have absorbed the energy of a plant/flower to give to you...in other words it's bollocks. Lots of people get placebo effect from it though. As above, a prescription for propranolol is the way to go.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 10/10/2025 18:23

Ok I’ve actually got two tablets of propranolol. It’s to take before my brothers funeral. Strangely when I took the Prop before for something I didn’t really notice a difference. Perhaps I need both

OP posts:
CurlewKate · 10/10/2025 18:23

Placebo.

ainsleysanob · 10/10/2025 18:24

Another vote for Propranolol. I have it on repeat prescription because I’m a nightmare for stress and anxiety. It calms the symptoms of stress in me such as sweaty palms, my thumping heart etc

EndlessDistraction · 10/10/2025 18:24

I know it's placebo but I find it works, with me it's nowhere near bad enough to need propanolol. this just takes the edge off.

ChickalettasGiblets · 10/10/2025 19:44

I think it’s a placebo…but having said that, if it helps you then why not. You might as well try it OP, then if it does nothing you have the propranolol.

Personally I don’t get on with propranolol either, it makes me incredibly drowsy even in low doses!

Dawninglory · 10/10/2025 19:56

I'm not sure Op, I took it for driving test nerves. I passed on my 4th attempt! That said the driving test was fine, it was the manoeuvres that did it.Also was a single parent to an 18mth old didn't help.
Maybe you should speak to your Doctor, a loss is much more than anxiety. I lost my Dad at 28 very sudden, he was 52. I took valium too get me through it.
Sorry for your loss Op 💐

Willowkins · 10/10/2025 20:01

I thought it was the brandy base that helped but yes maybe the flowers as well.

fiorentina · 10/10/2025 20:07

I use it occasionally, I do wonder if it’s the alcoholic taste that takes the edge off but even if it’s a placebo and it works for you, that’s great.

HermioneWeasley · 10/10/2025 20:24

Isn’t it just water?

EndlessDistraction · 10/10/2025 20:27

i cross-posted with your second post, I’m sorry for the loss of yur brother Flowers

Bumdrops · 10/10/2025 20:30

If you need something to manage anxiety -
speak to GP -
rescue remedy is 100 % placebo
and GP should be able to prescribe something that works - best wishes

Strokethefurrywall · 10/10/2025 20:35

I swear by it only because my mum used to use it on us when we were little and had falls/scrapes.

I used it when I went into labour, before exams and presentations. Most importantly I used it when my brother passed away. I found that it helped take the edge off the thoughts spinning around my head at night. And most certainly during the first few weeks of new babies when I was having quite intrusive thoughts.

StrongLikeMamma · 10/10/2025 20:37

I find saffron really helps me calm op. But intake it every day.

BermudaTriangleAngle · 10/10/2025 20:40

I use propranolol for things that stress me so much that I’m worried I might panic e.g. flying or an interview.

Rescue Remedy I use for lower level stress and I find it works really well. I don’t think it’s a placebo, I think it does calm you.

Grape alcohol aka brandy.

I wonder if the tiny drop of alcohol does something because I find it works but think it is placebo. But there is interesting research on how effective the placebo effect can be even if the person knows it is a placebo they are taking

twiddlingthumbs69 · 10/10/2025 20:46

Thanks all. I’ll take both but have a trial run before the day

HarryVanderspeigle · 10/10/2025 22:23

I find it helps. I am pretty sure it's because it's got a distinctive taste and mini ritual of spray or dropper to take it. I know when I go through the process that it is supposed to be calming, so associate the taste with calmness. I don't really care if it's genuine or a placebo as long as it helps.

DavidKeanu · 11/10/2025 01:38

@BermudaTriangleAngle A placebo would actually calm you. Just via a different mechanism.

Workingmammabear · 11/10/2025 04:19

I take propanalol. It doesn't reduce the feeling of anxiety or stress, just the symptoms (racing heart, sweating, migraines), so if you need to be "on form" for any reason it gives the confidence to know your body won't start misbehaving! I also take rescue remedy and that helps calm the anxious thoughts. I combine it with a whole ritual of meditation, aromatherapy oils for calming. Placebo or not, using it is part of an effective self care routine. Having recently lost someone very close to me, I've been using it a bit the last few weeks as well.

Riverswims · 11/10/2025 09:15

if It’s bo#%*€ks why do GPs advise it for occasional nerves type situations? same as they advise arnica post surgery? running to propranolol isn’t the answer for everyone, I just had a terrible nights sleep with propranolol, it also lowers your heart rate and makes you tired so much that I couldn’t function last course of treatment. Sorry for your loss OP
