I've been to the loo for a poo for almost a week.. drinking loads of water but haven't managed to exercise due to bad weather here.. I'm worried I have impaction
What do I do? Last time I went I had massive poop and hurt so much..
Embarrassed but don't want to take laxative as I'm at work and have to travel on bus.

Wait until you get home and then take one. I find a warm drink helps!

afaloren · 18/09/2025 19:06

Try a glycerin suppository from the pharmacy when you get home. Put it in, lie on your side for a while. It helps lubricate everything (sorry!).

Barneybagpuss · 18/09/2025 19:07

Fybogel, senna tablets are gentler than other laxatives

Thank you. I'm terrified of taking one and having an accident or having the runs at work. The toilet is next to office and can hear everything thing.
I can feel grumbling in my tum.. but nothing happening..

I've never took laxative before so not sure what to do and I'm going to have to do something as it's becoming very uncomfortable. I'm worried by bowels will burst..

Laxatives shouldn't mean you lose bowel control on a bus. You take them before bed and have a movement in the morning usually.

Try dulcoease aka docusate. That's a stool softener so does not cause any diarrhea, cramps or loose stools.

You need to consistently take it every night. And try prunes/prune juice.

Flowerpower70 · 18/09/2025 19:13

Oh that sounds good! Stool softener. Sounds good for me..

If it impacted you need to get a finger up there and try break it up , sorry not the answer you wanted but literally that’s what you need to do. Impactions so dangerous if left as your bowel could bursy. I’d start taking a stool softener as well and maybe try an enema .

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 18/09/2025 20:22

You really need to start eating half a dozen prunes everyday if this is a regular occurrence.

ChampagneRose · 19/09/2025 07:14

Glycerin suppositories are your friend. Put one in, lie on your side for 30 mins and then you’ll have the urge to go. Because you know when it will work, you don’t have to worry about when it will if you know what I mean.

LakeFlyPie · 19/09/2025 07:23

Docusate capsules (softener) are good and also macrogol drinks (Movicol /Cosmocol / Laxido) gentle but effective- if needed you can take several in a day as part of disinfection regime (see instructions on packet)

Flowerpower70 · 19/09/2025 10:39

Will try some dulcoease or a suppository. I am so worried I get diarrhoea and won't get to toilet on time. On bus or at work so suppositories might be best. I never had constipation before but could be because I have been sat a lot in meetings and not exercising due to bad weather.. worried I will have ruptured bowel.

I am passing wind but no movements..

Felt sick walking and the pain isn't nice amd gave me headache. Early finish at work so hot some dulcoease from pharmacy no suppositories but desperate so got the dulcoease and took one. Fingers crossed. Had to get DF to pick me up from tesco and run me home as felt awful.. hope I haven't got a bust gut. I can pass wind so hopefully not an obstruction. I think sitting down at work doesn't help.

I found that either lactulose, or glycerine suppositories worked best for me when I’m really blocked up. Lactulose is more gentle, but suppositories get the job done quickly (with more cramping however.)

Flowerpower70 · 19/09/2025 14:24

Oh they didn't offer them tesco pharmacy when i asked...
I'm annoyed at myself for not acting sooner.. but I thought things might have got moving after eating prunes etc.. never had constipation before..

OP posts:
MaleficentQueen · 19/09/2025 14:28

I didn’t use the lactulose and suppositories together by the way. Just one, or the other.

Lactulose was great when I was pregnant and not allowed to use suppositories.

Suppositories are quick, but they do cause lots of uncomfortable cramping, sometimes for a day or two after, I’ve found.

Flowerpower70 · 19/09/2025 17:07

Oh gosh I managed to go after having 1 dulcoease. I could not find glycerin suppositories at tesco? I was feeling awful earlier.. almost passed out with pain in bowel. Just might have to take another to get rid of everything bit still tender. I never want this again! I felt like I was gonna burst...

Do you have to ask for glycerin suppository over the counter at pharmacy? When u asked at pharmacy they just said dulcoease is best..

You can order glycerin suppositories on Amazon, OP.

LakeFlyPie · 20/09/2025 14:30

You can take 2 docusate twice a day so don't be shy with them, they are gentle! Loads of water too. Keep going even once things have started moving as you'll likely have some 'backlog' to clear.

Flowerpower70 · 20/09/2025 15:54

Yeah.. I definitely have some 'backlog' to get rid of

The glycerin suppositories are great. I can’t remember if I had to ask for them in Boots or if they were on the shelf. Going forward, what I would do is don’t let it go past 3 days and then use one. I’ve had to do that twice this year and then never got to the place you’re in now where it’s so life affecting! I think mine is something to do with peri menopause as I’ve never had this problem before. Hope you feel better soon as it’s so miserable

Sonolanona · 20/09/2025 23:30

I have to use a glycerine suppository daily ( on prescription) plus lactulose as have nerve damage to my bowel. Honestly a suppository is by far the easiest way to clear the backlog!
