Constant woozy/lightheaded feeling

Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 08:18

For the last 3 days I’ve been experiencing a feeling of wooziness almost constantly. A bit like when you’ve stood up too quickly, but not as severe. It’s not preventing me from doing things, but it is making everything feel very hard work. Prior to this I had a low level headache for a few days - unsure whether it’s related, it feels like it could be. I also have a bit of pressure in the top of my head and eyebrows?

I'm reluctant to go to the GP because symptoms are so vague, but of course I’ll have to if it persists.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Low blood pressure?

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/07/2025 08:31

Carbon monoxide poisoning?

Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 08:50

Everyone else in the house is ok and carbon monoxide alarm is working.

It feels like low blood pressure but when I took it it was completely normal, in fact high for me as I usually have low BP.

Could it be vertigo?

MassiveOvaryaction · 25/07/2025 09:02

Virus? Dehydration?

Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 09:18

It’s not spinny so I don’t think it’s vertigo. Could be a virus but otherwise feel well. Dehydration is possible

OP I've had what I've concluded is a virus for the last couple of weeks. It started with vague headaches and feeling absolutely shattered, sometimes with nausea and light-headedness. Over last weekend I had a particularly nasty attack of neuralgia at the back of my head and in my neck, after which I felt very down for a few days, along with the headaches, tiredness, nausea and occasional light-headed feeling of the first week. I've been really out of sorts with myself, a really miserable bunny! Yesterday and today it has moved to my stomach and is sore and unpleasant, but I think my mood is slowly improving. I'm aiming to rest up for a few days now and hoping it's on its way out.

Apologies if my experience doesn't really help you make better sense of yours, but I wonder if there might be some similarities. Something going around, maybe?

Apparently you can get non spinny vertigo. I went to GP lately for similar vague woozy feeling and he diagnosed vertigo (which I was sceptical about) but the tablets work.

Anyway, probably best to go to the GP and see what they think if it's going on a while.

Ear infection?

Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 14:26

Hmm, @baroqueandbluesounds similar so maybe it is some kind of weird virus… I hope so, at least it’ll be self limiting then 🤞🏻

@Idabellewhat tablets have you got? This could be a possibility then I guess…

@GooseCluesi don’t think so, I’d have ear pain surely or some kind of other symptom?

Worried1305 · 25/07/2025 14:41

OP, could it be sinus related? These are exactly the symptoms I get when my sinuses are troubling me (often worse in the summer - pollen etc). Try taking a decongestant and see if it helps.

Just checked, betahistine tablets. It kind of felt like standing on a boat - unsteady but not spinning.

Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 16:17

Ooh possibly @Worried1305
I had something similar about 15 years ago and they put that down to sinuses…

I’ve been getting the odd feeling like that and just found out I’m low on iron

Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 16:19

@Idabelleyes I think that does sort of sound similar, not rocking but kind of just off balance.

only thing is it does seem to be better when I sit down…. Would that be true of vertigo?

OP posts:
Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 16:24

@teaandtoastwithmarmitei just had a blood test and my iron ferritin is ok per the nhs parameters but it’s right down the low end… I did wonder if being even slightly low could be contributing… I was on a multivitamin with iron for a while but stopped it recently

I felt like this for a few days (off balance, headachy) before I woke up with a rash recently. Have you had Varicella/chickenpox? It's awful as an adult. Quite a lot of it about so maybe worth considering if you aren't already immune or vaccinated.

HangingOver · 25/07/2025 16:29

Could be derealization. It's brought on for me by stress and exhaustion.

Rory1978 · 25/07/2025 16:30

I have had chicken pox as a child so I don’t think it’s that

Right @Worried1305 i have got some decongestants to try first. I wonder how long I should expect it to take to see an improvement if I’m going to get one…

A couple of hours for me.

I think it affects people differently.
if this was me, I would take my BP at home to make sure it’s not low. Check it standing up and sitting down. POTs is another condition a lot of women suffer with. If all OK, give the GP a call and discuss your symptoms.
