Constant woozy/lightheaded feeling

For the last 3 days I’ve been experiencing a feeling of wooziness almost constantly. A bit like when you’ve stood up too quickly, but not as severe. It’s not preventing me from doing things, but it is making everything feel very hard work. Prior to this I had a low level headache for a few days - unsure whether it’s related, it feels like it could be. I also have a bit of pressure in the top of my head and eyebrows?

I'm reluctant to go to the GP because symptoms are so vague, but of course I’ll have to if it persists.

Anyone had a similar experience?

How old are you op? This was how I felt for about a year until I went on HRT. Fluctuating hormones affects blood vessels which makes them expand and contract causing wooziness.

I felt drunk/hungover for months. And still do every now and again before they up my dose.

my head felt like I’d been wearing a hat that was too tight.

other causes could be anxiety and vestibular migraine/disorder.

@Worried1305i took some before bed so no idea if it worked or not… scared to get up and find out. Probably need to take more anyway I guess, 1 dose won’t fix things

@Vivienne1000youre right, I’ve been back and forth to the GP for something else and just feeling a bit fed up with it so trying to avoid going. My sitting BP is normal… well, providing my BP monitor is accurate

I’m 39. I’ve been on the combined pill since January though so I imagine that would be masking any hormonal symptoms? But yes drunk/hungover is an accurate description, and the kind of pressure/tightness.

It def also could be anxiety

I was going to say sinuses OP. But if your iron is right down the low end, that could be making you feel ropey. I’ve recently been told I am borderline anaemic & have felt absolutely dreadful at times - going back to the GP for further blood tests to hopefully find out the reason for it. Hope you feel better soon 💐💐

13-150 is normal and mine was 27

@Worried1305i took the decongestant and it seemed like it did help a bit after an hour or so, but then the feeling crept back in again before the next dose was even due. My eyes feel kind of pressure-y too so sinuses would make sense but I feel like the meds should help more than they are

If it helped then that suggests it is sinus related, so I’d say that’s positive (because it means it’s nothing more serious). Keep taking the meds but I’d also try to see your GP if it doesn’t keep improving over the next few days and suggest you think it is sinus related.

Rory1978 · 26/07/2025 16:52

Yes, very true. Hopefully it is just sinus related. Seems odd that I don’t really have any symptoms aside from the dizziness though. Maybe a slightly more blocked nose than usual!
I do feel dreadful if I try to get up and do anything though, and so spaced out. Holding conversations is hard work!
I will be able to see my GP Tuesday or Wednesday probably, so I’ll call for an appointment then if it’s not better

I had this lasting three or four months three years ago. Permanent light headedness. Couldn’t work, couldn’t drive. Coincided with one sided pulsatile tinnitus. MRI ruled out anything nasty, but ENT tests diagnosed bilateral vestibular hypofunction. I had to do several weeks of pulmonary rehabilitation exercises and be very patient, it was a slow road to recovery. Took Betahistine alongside. Few months on and it more or less resolved but still very prone to vertigo, motion sickness etc.
Not anaemic, on HRT, BP ok etc.
I still have the tinnitus!

Zanoni · 26/07/2025 19:43

I have felt like this for weeks, a blood test showed I was severely lacking in iron (anemic)

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/07/2025 19:44

I sometimes get dizziness if I'm dehydrated, it makes my inner ear less fluid and more sticky. Have you tried having a rehydration tablet daily and drinking plenty of water?

Rory1978 · 26/07/2025 22:20

Gosh @DemonsandMosquitoesthat sounds terrible. I’m glad you’re feeling better now!

@ZanoniI don’t think I am anemic. My haemoglobin and red blood cells are fine, although my iron stores are low ish - although still NHS normal - I’m not exactly sure of the effect of this on how I feel

@BlackAmericanoNoSugari haven’t tried this no. I don’t think My fluid intake is any different to normal (although I’m def guilty of not drinking anough), but I could try a rehydration tablet daily just to rule it out I guess
