It’s only on the one hand but it’s uncomfortable and itchy. Just doing anything with my hand is making is sore and red around the area.

No pharmacies open nearby until tomorrow morning so wondering what I can put on it to ease it 😢

Anyone know what this is or what I can put on it?

It would help to know what shops near you are open. You can buy antihistamines or antihistamine cream and/or calamine lotion in places like home bargains or Tesco, depends on how bigs your local stores are sometimes.

Have you been pruning anything in the garden? There are a few plants that can cause blisters like that when sunshine is involved. Off the top of my head, rue is one, but there are others.

I would definitely puncture the blisters and put some Savlon on that - but I'm not sure if that's correct!

No not done anything in the garden so I’m not even sure what’s caused it 🫣

Yes, this looks just like the sort of ‘burns’ my DH got from Rue about thirty years ago. His arm was covered in them. He had been weeding around one such plant in the sunshine. It was the first we had heard of it.

olderbutwiser · 22/06/2025 13:26

No medical knowledge here. General advice is not to puncture blisters, to help avoid infection, but sometimes they will just rip anyway. I'm also not a great believer in putting gunky stuff on things but I know some swear by savlon etc. personally I'd put a big plaster over it to protect it (not the sticky bits on the blisters obviously) and then tomorrow morning take it off to the pharmacist.

PickledMuffin · 22/06/2025 13:27

Pompholyx?

It looks like a chemical burn. (Which is what some plants can cause.) Hope you get it sorted!

It's horrible, isn't it? We got rid of the rue immediately (shame, it's a lovely plant). I'm old enough to remember the Blue Peter warnings about giant hogweed as well

Thank you I haven’t touched any plants so it’s really random. Just put a big plaster on it for now and some Vaseline to see if that will help the stinging/itching

Pompholyx?

That’s a form of eczema isn’t it? I’ve never had eczema and it’s just really random as only one hand is affected

I’ve just put a bit of Vaseline and a plaster on it, the Vaseline seems to be helping the itchiness a bit

It’s been real warm here and I find since we’ve had this hot weather the last couple of days the blisters have swollen up more

Oldraver · 22/06/2025 13:47

If you've not touched anything I agree with PP that it could be Pompholyx

I've had it and it's a itchy as hell, I think the first treatment is emoliant and then steroid cream. My first port if call would be a pharmacy

Sassybooklover · 22/06/2025 13:50

Take an antihistamine. Supermarkets sell them, as do places like B&M/Home Bargains. See if any supermarket etc stocks calamine lotion, to soothe the blisters. Check Tesco's as they may have a pharmacy open.

PickledMuffin · 22/06/2025 14:34

I have Pompholyx and it does get worse when it is hot. Steriod cream clears it up.

AllBellyandBoobs · 22/06/2025 14:41

Looks like pompholyx to me. I get it when stressed and when hot!

My 'miracle cure' for burns or burny things is also petroleum jelly and a dressing. I also use an icepack until the heat has gone out of it which can take some time.

You may have a phytophoto reaction there. I only know about it because I got one after after cutting down fennel in on a very sunny day. I must have touched my neck because I got the most incredibly painful burning reaction.

The extreme reaction is a combination of the volatile oils in the plant on your skin and light of the sun.

ForPearlViper · 22/06/2025 14:52

Apologies, just noticed you didn't touch any plants. Could you have touched a cleaning chemical or something?

No nothing unusual to what I would normally use. It’s borderlining on painful now because the blisters are throbbing and just feels like they need to be popped 😩

Pompholyx?

Yup I think this too. I have it on one foot. It's so itchy and sore.

My pompholyx started on one hand right in the centre of the palm like this but I have it badly now all over two hands and, oddly, one foot. But those blisters are big for pompholyx. Even my largest blisters with more severe pompholyx are about half or a third of the size of those.

The lots of mini blisters surrounding them does look very pompholyxy though.as PPs have says it’s very sore, sometimes burning sensation and can be super itchy.
