It’s freezing

I’m freezing. I’m always really cold, and wondering if anyone else can relate?

I’ve got two jumpers on, a fluffy blanket and my wool socks. Last night I had my PJs on, my duvet (same thick one all year round) a fluffy blanket and a big wool blanket on the too of that. Admittedly it’s better now in the summer because I’m not quite as freezing as I usually am, I often get home from work in the winter/spring really chilled to the bone, can’t stop shaking, just cannot warm up, and the only thing that helps is a bath so hot it marks my skin red and makes me feel dizzy. I can’t wear lots of extra layers at work or sit under a blanket due to being customer facing.

I do usually have a couple of months of respite in the summer which I really look forward to, like my muscles can actually rest rather than constantly clenching through cold at those times, but my respite this year is yet to arrive. I can’t figure out if it just hasn’t warmed up yet or my constant cold problem is getting worse. The only time I actually feel warm is when I’m exercising properly, like in the second half of a long run.

I saw a long conversation online earlier about people changing their duvets for sheets and I just can’t imagine doing that in any weather. But maybe they are in different parts of the country/differently built houses/menopausal?

I can’t decide if I have some kind of medical problem or if everyone else does!

Where do you live?

I’m in London and it’s v warm. Bedroom currently 25 degrees.

do you eat well? I do fasting which makes me feel cold sometimes.

any medication?

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/06/2025 00:24

I'm in Manchester and I'm roasting

POTC · 16/06/2025 00:24

That used to be me. I took up swimming outdoors and it completely reset my temperature levels, now I'm usually the one saying it's too hot 😂

SheSpeaks · 16/06/2025 00:27

North of England, admittedly in the hills.

My weather app says it is 9 degrees outside at the moment but no idea on indoors.

I eat well but do eat sporadically/ more infrequently than average, not fasting just the way I am. No medications.

I would love to be roasting!

You should get your iron levels checked. I always know when mines are low as I’m so cold. It’s a strange sort of cold. Hard to explain

BastardesEverywhere · 16/06/2025 00:43

I've no idea of the temp inside now but apparently it's 13 degrees outside.

It feels warm here. Windows are open, I'm lying under a thin sheet. I've just been to check on ds3 (8) who's sleeping naked under a sheet only and I've had to move his head over on the pillow as it was a bit damp from sweat.

Being so cold doesn't sound at all normal op, certainly not at this time of year. I'd definitely be seeing a GP.

EmeraldRoulette · 16/06/2025 01:02

Not sure, really

It's 25° in my bedroom

I'll be sleeping under a thin duvet in Cotton pyjamas

I'm also somebody who's always cold. My mum is the same. Actually, my dad was the same. But it annoys in winter - in summer we can manage.

if you knew what your indoor temp was, that would be more of an indicator. I don't go out without a jacket unless it's maybe 22°.

LadyGAgain · 16/06/2025 01:08

It’s like I wrote this. As above poster, anything below 22 I’m in a jacket, below 15 and I’m floor to head in a winter coat. This weather is shite.

SheSpeaks · 16/06/2025 01:14

thanks for the help! I would never think of iron levels as I eat red meat and lots of green vegetables and don’t have heavy periods or anything. I had a blood test earlier this year so I’ll look of my doctors app and see if there is any information on there.

I don’t have any way to tell the temperature at home but there is a temperature indicator at work so I’ll keep an eye on that. I just bought some brand new thermals for the summer.

I wonder if it’s also to do with humidity? My weather app says the humidity here is 88% but I’m not sure if that would make me hotter or colder.

Have you been tested for thyroid issues? I'm underactive and usually colder than most people.

canidothisor · 16/06/2025 19:20

I was constantly cold when I was skinny. Started a medication which made me put on 5 stone and now I'm constantly boiling! Literally wear T-shirts on their own 10 months of the year. I wouldn't recommend my method, but maybe if your body fat is low you're less insulated.

fetchacloth · 16/06/2025 20:31

Best to booking with a GP OP.
It may be an iron deficiency or maybe underactive thyroid, but best to get checked out.

feelingbleh · 16/06/2025 20:35

Have you been checked for hypothyroidism

Edit.. I really need to start reading threads properly before writing something 10 other people have wrote

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 16/06/2025 20:35

What's your BMI?

Theunamedcat · 16/06/2025 20:36

Sounds like your unwell personally melting 🫠

RebelliousHoping · 16/06/2025 21:04

Look after yourself, cold fingers and toes gone now.

Under active thyroid medication needed adjusting at start of April.

Often wonder how long the cause of cellulitis was raging.

First sign of flu get help.

coxesorangepippin · 17/06/2025 21:10

Well yes, if it's 9 degrees and that damp, it'll chill you to your bones!

Are you very slim? Heavier people often aren't cold

daff0di1 · 17/06/2025 21:46

I used to be, but since having my son I'm now the opposite! Always boiling

user1476613140 · 18/06/2025 07:38

Always cold, I always have been. I have a thick duvet on all year round. Heating on in the summer from time to time (as a compromise to other family members!). But....I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis when I was 22.

I am not slim and constantly feeling the cold.

LetItGoHome · 18/06/2025 07:50

I'd get yourself checked out.

I don't think it's normal to find it so difficult to warm back up. If I were to get very cold I'd just need to go to a normal temperature building and I'd be warmed back up in 10 minutes. Perhaps with a mug of tea at most.

Are other people in your work place also cold?

ExtensivelyDecluttering · 18/06/2025 08:04

I'd say get checked out by a GP too, the only times I've ever come home so cold I can't warm up without a bath have been when I've been at football matches (sitting still outside) in bitterly cold weather. I don't wear a coat unless it is below about 10°C outside and even in winter when our room is about 15° overnight I only have PJs, a 3.5tog duvet and a crochet blanket over that.

Yuja · 18/06/2025 08:15

I’m like you but I am a bit underweight and anaemic. See the doctor to rule out thyroid issues but if it’s not that then take iron supplements and eat iron rich foods

slowlydecaying · 18/06/2025 10:10

Yeah I am in Lancashire, its been about 17c but its cold in my house, still have heating on, I have a thick duvet on bed and electric blanket on for an hour and always wear socks, I cannot sleep if my feet are cold.

I also need to wear socks in bed as my feet are freezing and it prevents me from getting to sleep🥶
