Lump in the inside inner part of wrist

Raluca2026 · 11/06/2025 05:56

Have you ever seen or had that? It doesn't really move, it seems hard. It used to be smaller months and months ago and apparently it grew bigger after I carried some heavy bags. I am not sure though, that's when I noticed it was bigger. I went to a specialist today and he got me scared by saying that it doesn't look like a sinovial cyst because of the position and referred me to a contrast MRI. I am thinking dark thoughts... 😪😪😪 I tried to add as many photos as possible, I am not sure it is very visible.

I had something very similar. I guessed it was a ganglion cyst so I took the traditional approach of hitting it with a large family bible (other large books are available) 🤣.
It bloody hurt when I did it, but over the week following it just disappeared.
I think your's looks a bit bigger than the one I had though.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/06/2025 14:03

I've currently got something very similar only mine is nearer the base of my thumb and looks like three lumps rather than one large one. The lumps come and go a bit depending on how much pressure I put on my hands and arms. I reckon it's a ganglion so I'm leaving well alone..

Farkinhell · 11/06/2025 14:06

I have previously had a Ganglion cyst in that exact same place. Was on the waiting list for removal and by the time the appointment letter arrived it had gone on its own (with a bit of bible bashing the week previously almost as a joke!)

PosiePetal · 11/06/2025 14:08

I had something like that once. MIL told me to hit it with a heavy book (she actually said 'oh, they used to say hit it with a Bible!). Anyway, I did and it immediately went down!

Choppedcoriander · 11/06/2025 14:09

My Dd has one. Hospital is going to drain it, but it can grow back. Then it’ll be surgery.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/06/2025 14:12

So three people cured by bible bashing on the thread so far 🤣

Sulking · 11/06/2025 14:16

Ganglion cysts can appear on the inside of your wrist. I had one on the outside that was Huge! It got quite sore and as others said… I smashed mine with a book it it immediately dispersed 😃 it’s never come back!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/06/2025 14:19

The thought of bashing mine with anything makes me come over all funny... It can look a bit odd but it's not bothering me so I shall just leave it alone for now!

Pyjamatimenow · 11/06/2025 14:22

My mum has one of those. I think dr said it was just a cyst.

slowlydecaying · 11/06/2025 15:35

ganglion

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/06/2025 15:52

I'd recommend a large bible - this was the one I used (shown with a laptop on top for scale).

Me too! I showed it to my gp in passing and she confirmed, then rubbed her own wrist and wistfully said "I miss my one, it just disappeared one day". 😂

Katherineryan1986 · 11/06/2025 15:55

Yes, I have one too, a ganglion cyst. It doesn’t bother me or hurt so i leave it well alone.

Hahaha I have a family Bible but I would wait a bit. Was it also on the middle part?

I had one felt as hard as bone, but doc still said she could move it.
Left it alone and it went away within a year or so.
No bibles here.

Was it moving? Mine is pretty fixed which get me really worried. And quite hard 🥲

I am afraid to smash it. Was it in the same place? Mine looks a bit different fron what I have seen, I don't know, I just think that 🥲

My then fiancé's GP thought that he had a ganglion and injected it with a steroid. It wasn't.

Referred to hospital. Turned out to be a benign tumour which was removed as a day procedure.

30 yrs later, I had one appear on my ring finger. "A ganglion," quoth the GP. It kept getting bigger and bigger...

I was referred to the hand clinic. A benign tumour. Can't remember now whether it was "Big cell" or "Giant cell" something.

In any case, it was removed in a day op. Local anaesthetic (same as with DH's wrist tumour). Surgeon did a beautiful job. You'd never know that I'd had it. (Same for DH's wrist.)

I was nervous going in.The lovely theatre staff kept me occupied by chatting away about tv etc whilst the surgeon excised the lump. He showed it to me afterwards - it really was quite large.

ETA I have a pic of my lumpy finger, but none of DH's wrist. He also had a lump removed from his back at one point - that was some kind of fatty cyst.

Maybe yiur fiance was luckier to have it in another place. Or was it similar as location? My doctor told me that it is quite tricky because there are vessels and nerves that go through their hence the contrast MRI tomorrow. Not to mention that what scares me the most is that it doesn't move.

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 14/06/2025 18:22

It was a similar location. ETA It didn't move either.

P.S. Have just remembered - the surgeon told my fiancé "It just popped out like a spring onion!"

Only the bump was visible to us - much like what I'm seeing on your photo.

WearyAuldWumman · 14/06/2025 18:27

Also, OP, my tumour was sort of wrapped round a nerve and the surgeon got it all out without causing any damage. (I was worried, because I play...don't laugh...the piano accordion.)

Tomorrow morning I have the contrast MRI. I pray to God it says fluid or something. I am worried sick! I've done all sorts of tests, move not move, well... anxiety has hit hard! I am more reassured by your pist though.

I am not laughing, my husband used to play that either😃. I suspect it is a giant cell tumor rather than a ganglyon cyst as well, those don't appear to move, ganglyon cysts apparently do. That means surgery, I don't think even a contradt MRI can tell what sort of tumor it is, maybe they can tell if it's benign or not because of course now I am thinking what if it's sarcoma... Not to mention if they remove it while awake... well... esprcially that in this area there are olenty of vessels and nerves.

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 14/06/2025 21:59

In the case of my giant cell tumour, I was told that they were 99% certain that that was what it was after the scan that I was given. However, they agreed to remove it because it was making movement difficult and it wasn't going to stop growing.

Honestly, @Raluca I did not feel a thing when they removed mine.

At first, I was told that it was going to be done under GA, but once the surgeon had a look at the scan in detail he realised that he didn't need me to be knocked out to get at it properly. (It was done during Covid, so they wanted me out of the hospital as soon as possible.)

I give you my solemn promise that my procedure was completely painless.

ETA Also, if they're worried that you can't stay still for long enough, they do knock you out.
