Does anyone else have those red bumps all over their upper arms, like spots? Anyone know how to get rid of them?

Have had this since puberty, really, but at the moment they're really bad and I'm going to a party in Paris on Saturday with lots of swanky French ladies....you know the sort of thing, thin, gorgeous, well dressed, etc etc

Anyone got any top tips? I exfoliate and moisturise daily, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I was about to say exfoliate, but you already are, so I will bump for you.

lazarou · 22/05/2008 10:35

Perhaps you are exfoliating too often. What are you using?

MerryMarigold · 22/05/2008 10:36

i saw something on TV about this a while ago...I think they said you were lacking some vitamin or fat or what, i can't remember. try googling. i THINK the answer was eating lots of fish, but obviously more of a long term solution.

also, the sun REALLY helps (my little cousin has this badly in winter, but is fine after some exposure to sun). You could try a few times on a tanning bed to speed up the sunning process since there is not much sun around at the moment!

LyraSilvertongue · 22/05/2008 10:37

Do you mean the bumps on the back of your upper arms? I have this. So does DS1.

WowOoo · 22/05/2008 10:38

Somebody told me the other week that they were hereditary - you either have them or you don't.

funnypeculiar · 22/05/2008 10:39

I have this too - and ds has it really badly. There was a thread on it recently that I never quite got round to reading ... bump in the hope of an easy answer

Zippidy · 22/05/2008 10:39

If they're like mine, sort of red goosebumps (sounds lovely!) it's called hyperfollicular keratitis - I read about it in Diet Doctors.

They reckon take omega 3 and 6 in supplements and in your diet and it should go in 3 months ( sorry, not by Saturday)

Oh, and exfoliate and body brush!

CrushWithEyeliner · 22/05/2008 10:39

stop eating refined sugars and fats and esp alcohol they will disappear- it is totally diet related. I had them for years.

LyraSilvertongue · 22/05/2008 10:42

This may help.
Looks like it's hereditary, not diet related.

LittleMyDancing · 22/05/2008 10:48

darn it, Crush, that sounds like all the fun stuff! It's true that my diet has been a bit rubbish lately, perhaps I need to give it an overhaul.

although we do eat a lot of fish, so I'm surprised I'm not well up on my Omega 3 and 6 - but maybe I'll get some supplements and see if that helps.

Looks like it's long sleeves on Saturday then!

I exfoliate with a one of those net thingies and some shower gel, mostly.

Thanks Lyra - that sounds like it! Will have to see if any of those creams are available in the UK.

I have this on my upper arms and thighs. DD is only just two but already has a few tiny patches on her arms I blame my mother for her chicken skin.

solo · 22/05/2008 10:52

Oilatum cream every day x 2.

nickytwotimes · 22/05/2008 10:52

My ds and DH have it.
Given ds's fab diet, I don't see how it can be diet related, tbh. DH is another matter!

LilRedWG · 22/05/2008 10:52

I use this and have found that it really helps.

lazarou · 22/05/2008 10:52

Get some exfoliating scrub, and a body brush. YOu can get a proper body brush from Elemis or E'spa. It has to be one with proper cactus bristles. First you dry brush your body with upwards sweeping movements starting at your feet. The whole idea is that it gets your circulation going and directs the blood towards your heart. Then get int he shower and exfoliate with a scrub-Garnier body tonic sugar scrub is very good. Then when you get out apply a good body moisturiser whle your skin is slightly damp.

CrushWithEyeliner · 22/05/2008 10:54

LOL I know it cleared up after my party years were over and I had DD! Honestly you will see a massive improvement even in heredirary skin problems by changing your diet. The creams won't work, do try the supplemtens and try cutting down on booze xx (not that I am implying you drink a lot at all but it will help)

LittleMyDancing · 22/05/2008 10:55

have been drinking rather a lot lately.....

LittleMyDancing · 22/05/2008 10:56

right, off to purchase a good body brush, some body scrub, a cream full of acid, some omega 3 and 6 supplements, and NO WINE....

they'll probably all react and I'll explode.

try this if you fancy treating yourself www.shop.decleor.co.uk/product/aromessence-circularome-balm

lazarou · 22/05/2008 10:58

Sorry, that link doesn't work, but it's circularome balm and it's lovely.

susiecutiebananas · 22/05/2008 10:59

Yes, its called Keratosis Pilaris. ( apologies if someone else has already said all this - not read all the thread). I bought a creme from a company online, called Derma Doctor its called KP heavy Duty ( KP for kerastosis Polaris ) I bought it online in dollars and benfited from the exchange rate! It came within a week of ordering it.

It 'dissolves' the plugs in the pores. I've noticed a difference after 2 weeks of using it morning and night. I have to get rid of it before its proper summer, I hat it, so embarrassed by it when I wear short sleeves.

I also ought a scrub, I htink of a similar name, which you can use on your whole body ( not face) its a mild chemical peel, sounds awful! but is fantastic. It did wonders to my horribly cdry flaky cracked skin on my feet!

HTH

LyraSilvertongue · 22/05/2008 11:00
