My feet hurt to walk on them - diagnose me

Tiredallthetimeneedsleep · 30/05/2025 22:56

Google search refuses to help me. Maybe it thinks it's a foot fetish. Anyhow - went for a 90 minute walk on Wednesday. Wolf up and when I stood up my heels felt like they were cut to ribbons - I've hardly been able to walk or put weight on them. Slightly better now but noticed they gave bruises on them. Ideas as to why?

Plantar fasciitis. Google it.

FloppySarnie · 30/05/2025 22:59

Sorry your pictures weren’t there when I posted. PF doesn’t causes bruising as far as I know but it is a very common source of heel/sole of feet pain.

FloppySarnie · 30/05/2025 22:59

Is the skin broken?

fatgirlswims · 30/05/2025 23:03

Plantar faciitis- what shoes did you wear for you 90 minute walk?

classic symptom is pain on waking up

Wasywasydoodah · 30/05/2025 23:04

Plantar fasciitis does feel like cut feet. The marks could be a red herring? PF will last ages after the marks go, if it is in fact PF

RedBeech · 30/05/2025 23:05

Plantar fasciitis as PP said. It's agonising. You need to gently stretch your calf muscles, buy some Sketchers, however uncool they are, and never walk around barefoot, in heels or in shoes with thin, unpadded soles. I found flip flops with tiny massage bubbles in the soles massively helpful, but lots of people say flip-flops are bad for plantar pain.

And ignore the typos - fibro fingers.

I wore Grisport Boots - these

What surface were you walking on? Was there a reason for the boots? A 90 min walk isn't very long.

TheBigPurpleOne25 · 30/05/2025 23:41

Second PF. I get it for months at a time and it's horrendous. Especially after sitting for while or first thing in the morning. I'm overweight and I try to do some walking, I have fibro too. Knocks me on my arse mind. I was advised to get special insoles fory shoes with an arch and also roll a tennis ball under your foot. If you have flat feet you are more prone to PF. Standing in solidarity as it's horrid. I have to come down the stairs on my bum some mornings cos I can't put my feet flat due to the pain.

TheBigPurpleOne25 · 30/05/2025 23:42

Also id say the bruising is probably just from walking for a longer period of time in those boots.

We started on a main path through the woods , then to a country park , then slight detour ( we got a bit lost ) through a couple of fields back to where we started

I wore the boots as I need a lot of support , especially around my ankle

I found standing with toes on the edge of a step/stair and letting your weight pull your heels down, helped.
And shoe inserts and Birkenstocks - never barefoot. If that's what it is! (PF)

natalieplusone · 31/05/2025 00:19

I have this and I wear hotter boots and the fit flop brand. Not amazing but help loads. X

When I had plantar fasciitis, I looked up 'how to exercise with a foot injury' There were loads of really good floor exercise videos online. It keeps you motivated and on your fitness/weight loss journey, and it keeps the blood circulating to the feet.

Those bruises look like maybe the padding in the base of the boot wasn't sufficient and some of the sole moulding from the shoe was pushing through. It seems odd that you have almost identical small, round bruises on each foot. If it is that, the bruising will heal way faster than plantar fasciitis, which can take months.

WorriedRelative · 31/05/2025 09:07

If it is PF then Birkenstocks are brilliant for PF. Fitflops too. You need support and cushioning and to avoid being barefoot until you are better. You can get insoles for shoes to give extra support too.

You need to stretch your calves and feet out, and when the acute phase is over gently build strength.

You mention cuts, could it be cracks? Flexitol or Scholl cream with urea are good for cracked heels. You can get silicone heel cups to protect them too.

MolluscMonday · 31/05/2025 09:20

Stretch your calves. A LOT.

Also google your plantaris muscle and dig your thumbs in till you find it (inner shins, nearish your knee) and give that a good long stretch out /massage.

Try a crash diet to lose weight (I know, I know) but I always found even a few lbs helped my severe PF massively when in flare up- I think it triggers inflammation to drop.

YourSignalFadedIntoAnotherWorld · 31/05/2025 09:22

I had PF for over a year when a friend said to get some orthotic insoles but to do a 'Blue Peter job' on them with sticky bandage to increase the height of the instep. This takes the pressure off the damaged ligament. It started the healing process and I have stuck with the raised arch arrangement. My movement and general posture is definitely better for having these artificially raised arches in my shoes.

WonderingWanda · 31/05/2025 09:29

Are they boots you've worn before? Are you sure they fit properly? New walking boots can be tough on feet. What's your walking gait like?

Dh and ds both overprinted (roll inward) this gave dh knee issues and ds plantar facitis symptoms. Both problems were fixed by purchasing orthotics for walking boots and specialised trainers.

HeySugarSugar · 31/05/2025 11:03

I second the PP that said to stretch your calves! My physio said this was one of the biggest causes of my PF. It’s miserable but it does goes away eventually!

ButterButterBattle · 31/05/2025 11:09

Wear Vionic shoes.
Almost any other shoe gives me foot pain.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 01/06/2025 19:52

It's kind of difficult to tell but the 'bruise' looks to be in a similar position on each foot - I'd check inside your boots for any issues with seams sticking out/insoles folding over or bunching up.

I've checked. I can't see anything. I've bought insoles and some new boots identical to the ones I had a few years ago which have a high arch and dong need breaking in.
