TheRosesAreInBloom · 05/05/2025 00:27

Can any one recommend shoes /trainers to help with this? I’m really struggling with it in my left heel - any recommendations or any words of wisdom re self help will be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Hard soled shoes are bet ime. And roll a hard ball under your feet to release everything.

Foofedifiknow · 05/05/2025 00:29

Vionic and FitFlop’s

Yellowcakestand · 05/05/2025 00:42

I second fitflops. And a support insole for your other shoes. When in the house I had a velcro strap which went under my foot to wear

dontcryformeargentina · 05/05/2025 01:03

I have exactly the same problem ( also left heel). What really helped me was to buy bigger size trainers and wearing them with Scholl Plantar Fasciitis insole. Massive difference , I don’t feel pain anymore. You can buy Scholl insoles from Boots or Superdrug.

LieutenantJumboJr · 05/05/2025 01:07

I’ve just spent €120 on a pair of ASICS Gel Kayano that were highly recommended for it but they’ve done nothing ☹️ A Scholl insole in my left shoe gives some temporary relief for about half an hour then the pain builds up again

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 05/05/2025 01:12

Can't recommend footwear, but in case you don't know, always wear slippers around the house. Get a cork ball from a sports shop, to roll under your foot. Do calf stretches.

Profhilodisaster · 05/05/2025 01:13

Plantar fasciitis is meant be self healing but my foot obviously didn't get the memo 🙄. Before you get out of bed , get a towel or dressing gown belt , put it under your toes and pull your foot back, hold it for a few minutes and repeat throughout the day .
I got myself referred to medical appliances and had an insole made which made a huge difference, don't wear ballet pumps or any other flat, flat shoe.
I ended up having surgery , I did all the physio and wore the insole but it just wouldn't go away. Good luck, it's miserable xx

Fit Flops. And Crocs (not cheap imitations) Cured mine in a few weeks.

hattiesmith · 05/05/2025 03:28

I have been suffering terribly with it too for months, I feel your pain.
I’ve spent so much money on different shoes..yet none have worked.

I have found relief over the last week by walking barefoot; something I never ever thought I would be able to do again. I honestly can’t believe the difference. Yes there’s still that initial agonising pain in the heel when you first stand, but it wears off.

Billybagpuss · 05/05/2025 05:55

I’ve spent much of the last month researching barefoot shoes and helping with this has come up a lot.

I bought a pair and have been wearing them for 4 days now. Pain in my Achilles has pretty much gone and my knee pain is easing. I’ve bounced down the stairs in the morning rather than one at a time for the first 3 steps and then slow but normal ish for the rest, which I’ve done for years now.

looking at the gait normal shoes with heel cushioning people tend to put down the heel first which puts pressure on heel and calves, barefoot is more of a natural gait. I’m still reluctant to recommend fully as the research is still relatively new and there’s a lot of people dismissing them as a fad, and they’re not cheap but my limited experience so far is positive.

Either way it’s worth spending some time doing some googling on it. I did start a thread on it before I bought and the general consensus is great for walking around in but running in them needs much more transition and is much harder.

I had this and tried all the usual treatments . The thing that worked immediately for me was acupuncture. Initially very painful but immediately felt tingling and gone completely the next day.

Whywhwhy · 05/05/2025 06:06

I had it for years and very frustrated. Then my partner bought me some oofos slider type shoes for wearing at home and it's now pretty much gone. May have been coincidence but might be worth a try!

Wholikesbreadandhoney · 05/05/2025 06:52

I've found wearing slippers in the house makes my plantar fasciitis worse.
I have a pair of shoes with arch supports that I wear around the house instead and these definitely help.

BigDahliaFan · 05/05/2025 07:07

Mine just went eventually. It was a peri menopause thing, but exercises helped. The hard ball thing and in particular every morning and night in bed I’d draw that alphabet with my feet. Stretches them out. Proper shoes that were supportive with backs and fitted, like loafers. And slippers with supportive arches. Also new trainers as the foam supports go after a while. It’s a bugger but it does go.

WHM0101 · 05/05/2025 07:17

Try to wear this at home and at night - it was recommended to me by a doctor.
I got PF when I got extra weight, and it went away after I lost 5 pounds.

i could barely walk a few months ago but significantly better now due to:

-really reducing all walking for several months (I know crap health wise but need to think long term)

-wearing fitflop trainers as my only footwear and wearing them in the house as well

-never going barefoot in the house

-trying not to sit in a position which puts weight on my feet

cryinginthechapel · 05/05/2025 22:15

Stretch your calf muscles.
trainers with a good arch support- new balance or Sketchers.
avoid platforms, flat shoes or wedges

nagnagnag · 05/05/2025 22:48

Shockwave therapy - I was cured in three sessions after several years of constant pain.

ChompandaGrazia · 05/05/2025 22:50

Archie’s flip flops. Worked a treat for me.

amooseymoomum · 06/05/2025 08:42

i have this again. last time I had it I had the injection in my ankle it nearly killed me I have never felt pain like it but it did cure it so to speak
I bought some shoes which were suggested as my daughter said nurses wear them a lot so pretty good
now its back and I really cannot face injection again

Toomanydogwalks · 06/05/2025 08:57

Birkenstocks and merrell walking shoes sorted mine out.

Enko · 06/05/2025 09:00

I hated vionics for PF made it worse.

Birkenstock and Fitflops I liked. For nicer shoes I use Allegria shoes from either Cheerful Soles or Legend footwear (I have sandals coming today or tomorrow woot)
I also in the last year bought a pair of Oofos they are super comfortable but not that pretty looking.

I do not get on with the sock brace above I prefer a less enclosed one. (Many on places like amazon)

Edited for spelling

redboxer321 · 06/05/2025 09:03

I'm just trying to manage mine. Given up on ever finding a cure. Still have to walk quite a bit as I have a dog.
An ice pack helps. And a foot roller. And the best shoes I've found are Hoka in one size bigger.
I had shock wave therapy and it did help but didn't cure it. I sometimes do my own swt with a massage gun. It's nowhere near as intense/painful but feels similar.
I found insoles for PF with arch support made it worse.
Only thing left for me now is to lose weight which I really must do!

Pooky001 · 06/05/2025 09:17

As another PP has said, I wear Oofos sliders around the house and have noticed an improvement.
