Sorry in advance if this is too gross or tmi for anybody.
Like the title says, I only have a bowel movement every week or other week. Sometimes three weeks max. I’ve always been like this ever since I was a kid. And it’s always been normal excrement. Recently however, my stool has become really hard and it’s one extremely long piece. Any ideas of what could be going on or how to fix it? I have a dr appointment but the soonest they could see me is next month.

Do you eat a meat heavy diet OP? I was amazed reading about John Wayne's autopsy - they removed forty pounds of compacted meat waste from his gut.

I guess that explains his famous gait.

I feel so sorry for those of you carrying around days of food in your digestive system. If I don’t go before I leave for work at 8 am it ruins my day!

Yes I feel uncomfortable if I don’t go in the morning
interestingly I’ve noticed my kids don’t usually go in the morning and i never did when i was a kid, but as soon as i got to adulthood i started. makes sense to me as it has all night to brew

How does your body react if you break the scared ritual and don’t poo in the mornings?

It’s not often but I just feel bloated, heavy, dull stomach ache, sluggish.

I’m the same, have to go every morning otherwise I risk feeling bloated all day, and on top of that, If I poo the day after it runs the risk of struggling to flush 🫣

Once a day at 8.30 is a welcome relief!

When you say twice in the morning, as in two different ‘sessions’?

Yes one as soon as l wake up and another before l leave for work

Assuming you're not the same weirdo from last week who's constipation post got zapped...

It's the rule of 3. Anywhere between 3 times a day to 3 times a week is normal.

So no.

The poster who hadn’t pooed for a month after a VLCD?? I was wondering about her!

CreationNat1on · 05/05/2025 21:09

Freshly squeezed orange juice might help people poop.

I go twice a day, morning time.

Absolutely not! Eat lots of fruit and especially dates. 1-3 times a day is healthy.

3 x a day to 3x a week is healthy if it’s normal to the person.

many people only poo once every couple of days and that js considered normal.

Oh gosh don’t hahaha, I haven’t been today so I’m actually a bit nervous for tomorrow, My greatest fear is my son finding out that mum poos!

CluckerHam · 05/05/2025 21:22

You need a stool softener: Movicol/Laxido/Cosmocol (different brand names, all the same thing). And maybe a Bisocodyl tablet a couple of times a week as well.

Be very wary of adding extra fibre too quickly as this can have the opposite effect if you’re already in this situation!! Also read up on soluble v non soluble fibre

CluckerHam · 05/05/2025 21:24

Also if you up the fibre you need to also really up your fluid intake

BountifulPantry · 05/05/2025 21:36

Oh no the poo poster resurrected?

That must be some time consuming, how do you leave the house? Do you wfh?

It's not time consuming, it's 3 mins tops plus hand washing! How long does it take lol. I do WFH yes but actually it's usually after my morning coffee before work/when I would leave the house, before dinner and then in the evening before bed.

Same. I don’t eat until 12pm but after my espresso and or green tea at around 7am I get the urge. I don’t go to the bathroom until I get that feeling. So it’s like in, go and done.
