Sorry in advance if this is too gross or tmi for anybody.
Like the title says, I only have a bowel movement every week or other week. Sometimes three weeks max. I’ve always been like this ever since I was a kid. And it’s always been normal excrement. Recently however, my stool has become really hard and it’s one extremely long piece. Any ideas of what could be going on or how to fix it? I have a dr appointment but the soonest they could see me is next month.

I would feel so bloated and full if I didn’t get rid of stuff! I did it at festivals when I didn’t want to poo there and felt so uncomfortable for 3 days
It’s funny how we’re all different. I go every day on a morning and sometimes in the evening

Not that I am suggesting starting to weigh it and compare, but I would be very curious whether people who go 3 times a day poop a much smaller volume than those of us who go every 2-3 days. I know I don't block the toilet, the volume seems normal to me, but the only reason it seems normal to me is because I have always been like this, so I realise I have no idea what a normal poop volume/weight is...

@aurynne I changed from at most once a day to my current two or three times a day. And yes, I think the amount is the same but just split into smaller 'parcels'!

You must save a small fortune in toilet roll.

Why so? Assuming the OP wees multiple times a day 🤔

LavenderFields7 · 05/05/2025 06:45

How much do you eat? I can only hazard a guess that you have some sort of eating disorder and are on like 300 calories a day or something?

theoriginalpinkpowerranger · 05/05/2025 08:13

From a medical point of view, if you are not opening your bowels more regularly there may be concerns about how well you would metabolise medication.

Yeah I imagine that overall it’s the same volume 🤣 excluding people who eat excessive amounts. Just faster/slower digestive systems

Do some people really shit 2 to 3 times a DAY???????? Every day???

Yes my dp does. Am so envious as I think this is why he has so much energy. I'm once a week, no matter what I eat.

Mrsbloggz · 05/05/2025 13:17

My understanding is that the longer waste matter stays in the gut the more water is absorbed from it, so if you go more frequently more of the volume would be made up of water. And the more fiber you eat the more water can be held by the waste matter.
So a low fiber diet would tend to make you go less frequently.

I don’t know. I eat a fair amount of fibre.

I go once or twice a day, is it weird that when I get periods my poos are always really big? As in they block the toilet big?

localnotail · 05/05/2025 18:23

Prune juice? Apples? Apricots?... Cant be good, having all this fermented waste inside you

I’m not sure blocking the toilet is ever “ normal” in the sense that they are designed to handle human waste.

However I do know progesterone tends to slow things down and then when it dips just before it can all speed up again. In other words there is a hormonal component.

This is also what I think.

Do you have ARFID or restrict food? Bowel movement frequency is hugely dependent on diet and bulk. It would be nearly impossible to go once every 2 weeks on a high fibre diet with three large meals a day (anecdotally, the few people I know who poo 2-3 times a day tend to be men who eat a lot).

There was phase in my life where I'd go every 4-5 days but it coincided with heavy food restriction due to emetophobia. I only realised that it was linked once my MH and diet improved.

greengreyblue · 05/05/2025 18:38

This is obviously a prank as op hasn’t been back. But no it’s not normal!

Yes the ones I know who go weeks are restrictive eaters. I can’t imagine having 3 meals a day and not going for a week, my stomach would look pregnant

Do you mean that you think eating fruit and vegetables isn't good for you?!

I think they are suggesting solutions.

greengreyblue · 05/05/2025 19:56

I feel so sorry for those of you carrying around days of food in your digestive system. If I don’t go before I leave for work at 8 am it ruins my day!

LillyPJ · 05/05/2025 19:04

No, pooping once every two weeks isn't good for you. Hence OP needs to eat all the fruit I listed.

Yep! I do! At least twice in the morning then usually another one in the evening

When you say twice in the morning, as in two different ‘sessions’?
