yes

either that or you've been at the LSD

you need to lie down in the dark

tearinghairout · 14/05/2008 21:38

Yes, sounds like it to me. It's happened to me a few times, but I get tunnel vision before the headache comes. My advice - get to bed now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/05/2008 21:39

Boco
Go lie down, I hope you feel better in the morning.

Rosylily · 14/05/2008 21:40

I get migraines. One time my vision went weird like I was looking at everything underwater. I didn't get a headache with that strange vision but gp said it was migraine related.

PenelopePitstops · 14/05/2008 21:42

yes, even if you don't get a headache

I hate migranes, they are so awful and debilitating, lie down and get a sleep if you can, hope you feel better tomorrow

onepieceoflollipop · 14/05/2008 21:43

You may or may not get a headache in a bit. Sometimes I just feel really disorientated, other times I get a terrible pain on one side like something is clawing at my head.

If you feel able to, take some painkillers just in case. (paracetamol or something stronger, washed down with cola or fizzy pop if you have it) The caffeine, sugar and fizz get it into your system quicker. You may feel quite "hung over" and dreadful tomorrow, as if you have been cracked over the back of the head.

Definitely sounds like migraine, assuming you haven't had a bump or whatever. It is often hormone related with me, pms related?

Boco · 14/05/2008 21:43

did lie down but dp didn't put the childre to bed so had to get up - wll go agan. fox texted tou probably llad of crap. Glad migaren adn not brain falling fof forever.

I get the visual stuff on its own sometimes - I've had a migraine headache for the last week and it's not fun, you have my sympathy!

Migraleve is quite good if you can get someone to get you some...

foxinsocks · 14/05/2008 21:44

oh sorry. Phone buried under a pile of rubbish.

Have you got any syndol or nurofen plus or somefink?

Tell dh you are proper poorly and need to lie down.

I find a nice cool flannel on head v good. Keep a bowl next to bed in case of sickness.

onepieceoflollipop · 14/05/2008 21:45

Was it kind of zig zag lights that you are aware of out of the corner of your eye? I really sympathise, it is horrible.

If you are sick this might put an end to it if you are lucky. Your digestive system will slow down/stop if it is a migraine so you probably won't want to eat or drink.

frogs · 14/05/2008 21:45

Nurofen. And something sugary (there is sometimes a blood-sugar related trigger with migraine). And go to bed.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 14/05/2008 21:45

I get this most of the time before I get a migraine, it is almost like a puddle in the corner of my vision. Sometimes it leads to a full blown migraine, sometimes it leads to what my optician called silent migraines, where head feels very strange for a few days, but doesn't actually hurt.

doggiesayswoof · 14/05/2008 21:46

Yep you can get 'visual' migraines where the headache never comes along.

either way - you need to lie down in the dark. Painkillers may or may not help - they don't help me much.

It's crap.

Boco · 14/05/2008 21:47

head doesnt hure but feel spaced ota. Will go to bed thanks.

foxinsocks · 14/05/2008 21:47

oh yes, v good point. If you have a normal (sugared, caffeined) coke, then try and drink it right now. That sometimes helps for some reason.

onepieceoflollipop · 14/05/2008 21:48

The problem with migraine is that people who have never suffered insist on referring to them as headaches. Makes me really

I had some awful attacks whilst pg, one time I was literally banging my head (gently) on the tiled wall in desperation as I thought I was going mad, and couldn't take anything for it.

Another time after 3 days I had to be taken to emergency gp and was given some sort of injection that stopped it. oooh the relief was fab.

onepieceoflollipop · 14/05/2008 21:50

The painkillers may not help straight away but I think they may ease your recovery a little as your head is likely to feel very fragile for a day or 2 once the other symptoms have passed.

Once you feel up to eating again, try some carbs (toast etc) to raise your blood sugar.

smartiejake · 14/05/2008 22:50

Boco- what you are describing sounds like the sort of migraines I get.

They didn't start till I was 35 and the first time it happened I was really scared. I calmed down a bit when I spoke to my dad as he gets them too. I also found out recently my sister suffers the same way and dd2 also gets them.

It has only happened 4 times to me. I do not get a headache but a strange crescent shaped flickering thing that moves over my field of vision making it hard to read. This usually lasts for about 20 mins after which I feel spaced out and sleepy. After about 2 hours or so I feel fine again.

PenelopePitstops · 15/05/2008 08:01

boso how are you feeling today?

LIZS · 15/05/2008 08:02

I had that a few weeks ago - it did pass in a while but notpleasant.

Buda · 15/05/2008 08:08

Horrible - I used to get them too but thankfully VERY unusual now.

Something I found helped me was to take 2 Nurofen straight away. Often stopped it in its tracks.

Sympathies. Hope you are feeling better today.

Boco · 15/05/2008 11:06

Thanks for advice. Went to bed and really bad headache adn sickness started in the night. Just feel really spaced out today, and my eyes are really puffy, everything very bright and loud and everything smells odd. Managed to palm off dd2 with a neighbour so will go back to bed for a bit.

Wonder why got one now - hope it's not something that happens again it's horrid.

CooorNora · 15/05/2008 11:14

Boco - - I can really sympathise as I get migraines quite regularly, had one this morning in fact. Thanks to whoever suggested the sugary drink as I had one and I think it helped a bit. Mine are usually menstrual related, but can be triggered by dairy food, chocolate and wine. Also stress! Did you eat anything you don't normally eat yesterday?

.. Also really annoys me when people say it's just a headache...it's a lot more crappy and debilitating than that.

hattyyellow · 15/05/2008 11:17

Do consider going for osteopathy or to a chiropractor..I often get migraines when I've been really tense and my neck and shoulders are in knots..which impedes the blood flow and contributes to the flashing light effect.

I got them for years and hated them until I went for treatment which really did change my life!

Buda · 15/05/2008 13:11

Oh yes - would also recommend chiropracter. I hadn't had a migraine for years and had 5 in a week about 18 months ago - went to doc and she recommended lifestyle changes (!) and also a magnesium supplement.

Had another the next day and was left feeling all tense and as if all the pain was in the back of my neck. Went to the chiro and it was fab. Haven't had another migraine since.

He also recommended magnesium - he and the doc had been to the same conference on migraines and headaches a few months previously and a US specialist had spoken and recommended supplementing with 500g magnesium daily - it can really help.
