Ramipril size of tablets

purpleme12 · 28/03/2025 00:09

I've been on ramipril (10mg) for years. They've always been teeny tiny tablets. Brilliant because I can only swallow little tablets. Then these latest ones turn out to be massive! Even though it's still the same dosage! So I've tried to swallow them but just sicked it all back up (so probably sicked my other tablets up too so probably nothing in me now). I am so disappointed. After all these years

Has anyone else still got the teeny tiny tablets for this medicine if you're on the same dosage? Or has yours gone massive too?

I've got to try again tomorrow I guess

Can you not chew a piece of bread and swallow the pill down with it?

Ihad2Strokes · 28/03/2025 00:55

No, I'm on Doxazosin 1mg & they're tiny.

im also on Losartan. Upped from 50 to 100. The 100 are a lot bigger, very chalky & taste vile. I'm going hi get them changed back to 59's & take 2.

the artovastatin are huge though!! 🥹

nocoolnamesleft · 28/03/2025 00:58

Try co trimoxazole - just short of 1g, so basically the size of two paracetamol. Took a while to get used to those.

Growlybear83 · 28/03/2025 01:02

Could you not get a pill splitter and cut them into two or even four pieces?

Will definitely look at this

I've never been able to swallow tablets unless they're small ones.

I don't hold out much hope but will remember this suggestion

I just don't understand how it's the same medicine the same dosage but go from teeny tiny to massive!!

sandgrown · 28/03/2025 01:16

I have the same medication in a small capsule but they seem to vary by brand

purpleme12 · 28/03/2025 01:18

It's been so stressful tonight taking it. And I'll have sicked up the other tablets won't I as well so had no benefit

Gone years with it being ok

Drink water first then try to take the tablet but there is some special stuff you can take to help them slide down, as the pharmacist.

You should be able to buy one in any pharmacy for under a fiver, or on Amazon. I can easily cut codeine tablets into four with mine.

Telemichus · 28/03/2025 06:28

im sure you have, but please also double check that it’s the correct medication and dose - like check the strip not just the box.
some pills can’t be split - obviously they can with a sharp enough blade, but shouldn’t be because of film coatings.so that is also worth a check.

purpleme12 · 28/03/2025 07:51

It says on the silver thing the tablets are in ramipril 10mg 😞

I'm just so confused how the exact same thing can go from teeny tiny to massive

OP posts:
TeaRoseTallulah · 28/03/2025 07:54

Check that you can split the tablet, lots of them you can't if they are slow release.

EBearhug · 28/03/2025 07:58

Different brands package them differently.

My ramipril is film-coated, so can't be split.

I put large tablets at the back of my tongue, then drink lots of water. But ask your pharmacist, as suggested.

MickeyMouseEars · 28/03/2025 08:05

When I was on Ramipril they were small plastic capsules - are yours like this (as opposed to solid tablets, like paracetamol)? If so, try putting it in your mouth, taking a glug of water and tipping your head forward before you swallow. I was fine with the Ramipril as they were so small, but this is the only way I can swallow cold and flu capsules.

MrsMariaReynolds · 28/03/2025 08:11

Interesting. The 10mg I've been on for years are blue and white coated pills. Little things. But definitely can't be split. I hope they haven't changed!

I have some huge vitamins that I sometimes struggle with getting down. Only method I suggest is take a huge gulp of water and drop it in, and swallow.

TroysMammy · 28/03/2025 08:13

Years ago my DM could only take paracetamol with milk. I don't know what she does now with other tablets she takes daily.

When you get your next prescription could you ask the pharmacist before handing it in if they have another brand with smaller tablets? If they don't you might have to go to a few different ones.

TeenToTwenties · 28/03/2025 08:22

Pharmacists source from different manufacturers. I load pills for my Dad and every now and then a capsule changes colour or a pill changes size. I always leave a note and tell my mum (Dad will forget) to say all ok and not to worry.

And yes I think his ramipril changed recently.

No they're tablets

I can't swallow any capsules at all

I can swallow tablets if they're not big

Mine weren't blue and white coated so yours sound different altogether! So maybe you're safe!

Interesting. I wonder why milk was different for her?

When I got these I did look at them in chemist and realised they were different and asked chemist and said about the swallowing. I said can I not have the teeny tiny ones but yes it appears she didn't have them said it's just whichever ones they get delivered. But it's the same chemist I've used for ages. They gave me 2 months worth of these massive ones

They're on my repeat prescription and get sent to the chemist electronically each time. I'm quite happy to go round chemist next time though if it avoids this problem. Can I do that?

Try a yogurt drink , either cholesterol or actimel type life changer for taking tablets

Topseyt123 · 28/03/2025 08:56

You need to buy a tablet cutter. I'm sure you can get them from most pharmacies as this must be a fairly common problem.

Otherwise, you can buy them on Amazon.

rainbowstardrops · 28/03/2025 09:18

I’m on Ramipril and have been for a good few years but I’ve never had teeny tiny tablets. Mine have always been the plastic like capsules with powder in them. About the size of a TicTac roughly
