Had this since July and doesn’t seem to get better. Getting me down now as having major impact on day to day living. Have started shock wave therapy anyone know if it actually works .

I don’t know about that - but are you wearing the right shoes and doing the exercises and all the usual stuff?

DustyLee123 · 09/02/2025 21:20

The shock wave was the only thing that worked for me.
I never put my feet on the floor without something on them now, I never wear slip-ons, and always wear flatter, supportive shoes

SlipperyLizard · 09/02/2025 21:22

What else have you tried? It doesn’t go away overnight but for me a combination of calf strengthening & stretches and arch support insoles eventually got rid of it.

My podiatrist (for a different injury) suggested shockwave therapy but said it was painful, so I’m trying to resolve that one with other methods first.

Gettoachiro · 09/02/2025 21:22

The only thing that worked for me was insoles initially, then much more supportive work boots.

narcASD · 09/02/2025 21:23

Shock therapy? I'm not sure but I'd be willing to give it a go, I find wearing a slight heel makes the pain more bearable, flats kill me. I've started doing calf stretches and using a tennis ball to roll under my foot.

I've had it for 3 months and it's awful

Mittens67 · 09/02/2025 21:24

Nothing worked for me but eventually it just went. Took about ten months of agony first though.
Naproxen did help the pain but it is a pretty awful drug side effect wise so a debate on whether you risk it or not.

Borris · 09/02/2025 21:25

It does go eventually but it's loooong. My second foot is pretty much settled now. I thought my original foot had flared up but then I found a photo of me wearing the brace on the other foot so it must have swapped at some point.

Caterina99 · 09/02/2025 21:26

I’m sure you already know all these, but I had this and it did go away (thank god) and I put it down to the splint boot thingy at night, fitflop trainers worn pretty much all day every day, and arch support slippers the rest of the time. And stretches.

It is awful you have my sympathy OP. I will be careful with footwear now forever in case it comes back!

SereneCapybara · 09/02/2025 21:28

I found that ice made it worser. felt okay while the foot was on ice but even more painful afterwards.

Massage helped. There's a young man on You tube who shows you how to massage your foot with the side of a metal spanner. Weird but I was in such pain I tried everything and this was one of the few things that helped. Also gently stretching it out by standing with soles of feet on a step and the heels stretching down towards the next step.

I wore Fitflop boots in winter and Skechers trainers - uncool apparently but they eased the pain. Also found flipflops with little massage dots on them really soothing. They are supposed to be terrible for plantar fasciitis but if I wore flipflops around the house, the pain would go.

Never go barefoot, ever, especially not on hard surfaces. If you run, run in woods and on grass, not pavements.

If you are overweight, losing weight helps. I lost a stone and it went away. Put most of it back on and the pain returned. Lost it again and the pain eased.

Get yourself an appt with a sports physio.

I know it seems pricey but it’ll save you the cost of dozen different pairs of shoes/insoles/word sleep boots etc etc.

I had PF for over 2 years.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 09/02/2025 21:29

I cut back on gluten and wore shoes with laces. It went.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 09/02/2025 21:30

And rolling your foot over a tin of beans while you’re sitting

Thankyouforthrdayz · 09/02/2025 21:31

I wore Fit Flops outside and Crocs inside. All the time. It went after a few weeks. The shock absorbing soles let the inflamed tendon heal.

Makeacircle · 09/02/2025 21:31

I made sure I had OOFOS flip flops right next to my bed. I used a scholar insole and wore new balance 327. I believe it comes and goes of it's own will and the measures I took just made me able to walk. Highly recommended the OOFOS.

SereneCapybara · 09/02/2025 21:33

I found the teen with the brilliant (weird) video. It's not a spanner, it's a wrench. But it works. The pain eased. The relief was immense. After three days it was gone.

Here he is:

Crocs in the house, never walk around without supportive shoes on. Do calf, achilles and foot stretches religiously, multiple times a day.

Itisverycomplicated · 09/02/2025 21:40

I have Morton’s neuroma and I’ve had to change my shoes. Recommend Hoka Bondi 8/9. They’re recommended for for PF too

Copperoliverbear · 09/02/2025 21:45

I used to suffer with this badly when I first got up from sitting down, I couldn't even put my foot on the ground. I started wearing hoka arhari trainers and my feet are nearly 100% now.

Womble09 · 09/02/2025 21:46

Thanks everyone, tried all the things mentioned. In desperation went to foot specialist who suggested shock wave therapy. 3rd session tomorrow. Fingers crossed it works

I've had it since May, it's awful. I wear oofos as slippers and never walk barefoot. Outside I wear Skechers arch fit - and found some that look like ordinary white sneakers and proper running trainers with arch support that they recommend after a gait analysis.

I've tried taping, stretching, heat, ice, podiatrist, you name it and the only thing that impacts the pain is arch support and the right shoes.

It's such a BORING condition, so bloody BORING and I'm bored of my ugly shoes and sore foot. Sending you hugs.

Womble09 · 09/02/2025 21:48

Serenecapybara will give this a go too

Insoles, exercises and the right footwear. Stretch your feet before getting out of bed. Use a tumble dryer ball to roll your foot over and don't use ice.

rainydogday · 09/02/2025 21:51

I have had it on two occasions both lasting for about 6-9 months. The best thing I found has to use a wooden foot roller (on Amazon), I have single one and also a multi roller. I rolled before I walk when getting out of bed. It's been amazing! I take it on holiday and use it lots if I need to be out walking

menopausalmare · 09/02/2025 21:53

I stopped wearing my usual flat but unsupportive shoes, switched to ones with an arch support and started yoga. I no longer ache☺️. Bad shoes had a knock -on effect with my arches, knees and hips.
