Mortified: v frequent loud queefs

Battisborough · 05/02/2025 22:41

Has anyone suddenly developed this problem and if so did you find a cause or cure?

im so self conscious. It’s awful and loud and happens very often for the first minute or so after I stand up. It does not happen when lying down and not much when sitting. I’m so upset about it and have started to not want to go to work. It started about six weeks ago and is getting more frequent and I’m sure people hear. I will make a GP appointment which I’ve been putting off as it’s embarrassing and I have no other issues at all.

Hopefully your GP can give you some answers.

Pennnyforthright · 05/02/2025 22:50

Wtf is a queef?

RampantIvy · 05/02/2025 22:53

Queef?
Not sure I want to google it.

fashionqueen0123 · 05/02/2025 22:54

Are you somehow sucking in air when sitting down?

Rumplestiltz · 05/02/2025 22:55

Would you really go to your gp with this?
I think it's a hormonal thing. Can you try to stand up gradually / maybe move a little first to test or let any air expel itself less abruptly than it would when you stand straight up. Practice at home first?
Failing that - tampons at work will stop it and give you confidence.

Wtf is a queef?

Might be nice to ask a little more sensitively given the distress I have explained in my OP. It’s a fanny fart.

It’s not like one the moment I stand up. It’s for a couple of mins. I’m a teacher. Imagine how often I stand up in front of large groups.

Hi. I didn't want to read and run. It's not something I've encountered myself but as a fellow teacher I understand your worry.

How's your pelvic floor? Would some pelvic floor exercises help? Or does it help if you clench your buttocks as you stand up to support your spine etc?

Rumplestiltz · 05/02/2025 23:03

Oh gosh I can so imagine how stressful that is. What about tampons as a management strategy?
I just doubt the gp will have anything useful to say.

mmmmmpp · 05/02/2025 23:06

1000% pelvic floor related

And will be quite easily fixed with some pelvic floor exercises

To make sure you're doing them right and for reassurance and guidance try and visit a pelvic floor specialist/women's physio. If none in your area there is a great one in north east that I know does video appointments!
I'm sure there will be one near you though

I hope you get it sorted

RampantIvy · 05/02/2025 23:06

Can you download the Squeezy app?

Are you genuinely suggesting OP should use tampons when not on her period? Have you not heard of Toxic Shock Syndrome?

Might be nice to ask a little more sensitively given the distress I have explained in my OP. It’s a fanny fart.

How could someone ask 'more sensitively' when they have no clue what on earth you are referring to??? I thought queef might be some sort of hairstyle! Many others asked the same too, not just this person! I'm mid 40's and work in a medical role and never heard this term in my life!

How is your pelvic floor? Ask your GP to see a gynae physio if this is a new issue OP.

Battisborough · 05/02/2025 23:09

Yes I’m a bit worried by the tampon idea. I imagine it would give a yeast infection at the very least and maybe much worse if I don’t have a period. I might try it though just to see if it helps.

i wondered if it could be a symptom of a prolapse or fistula or something.

I will do lots of pelvic floors. I already have TVT tape in there so I know I’m weak.

It’s posted in health so unlikely to be a hair style. Others asked without saying “wtf”. Never mind though. I don’t want to make the thread a fight. I’m just asking whether others have suffered the same.

FumingTRex · 05/02/2025 23:28

I had never heard the word queef before but its a great example of onamatapeia. I immediately knew what it meant.

FumingTRex · 05/02/2025 23:29

If you have TVT i would definitely get medical advice in case it’s a sign of a complication .

Please don't use a tampon unless on a period.

Risk of toxic shock.

''Tampons can increase the risk of TSS in two ways, including:

  • Tampons (especially super-absorbent varieties) that are left in the vagina for a long time may encourage the bacteria to grow.
  • Tampons can stick to the vaginal walls, especially when blood flow is light, causing tiny abrasions when they are removed.''

So you work in a medical role and think 'what the fuck' is a suitable, sensitive way of asking a question? To someone who is distressed? Really?

Yes sorry. I actually hadn’t thought about it as associated. So many people have problems with TVT but I’ve never really thought about mine, please let it not be turning into a problem after nine years.

Pelvic floor ,download an app on your phone. Don't use tampons but a moon cup would be ok.

OrlandointheWilderness · 06/02/2025 08:45

God above it's shocking that people are actually advocating using tampons whilst not on a period! Please don't do this.
Op I'd probably book yourself a Dr appointment, there may be exercises etc they can recommend.

Rumplestiltz · 06/02/2025 08:57

I mean it's so shocking that someone proposed tampons when they are regularly proposed as treatment options in the clinical literature.
