ds2 last had a proper wee on sunday.since then one tiny wee in day(dribble) and tiny one in night nappy.hes had on and off temp which comes down with calpol, seems wobbly and dizzy, keeps trying to be sick but just bit of watery stuff comes out(wee?)on and off 'poorly' sleepy/dopey and whingy.i took him to go today who said well it must be going somewhere and he looks fine.which is true but it cant be ok not to wee!

How much is he drinking? How old is he?

cheesesarnie · 07/05/2008 22:40

blimey, i'd take him to see another gp . I know it will be really really hard for you and him but try and get a clean sample from him if you can as it sounds like a urine infection to me though obviously i'm not a gp. I would insist on being seen 1st thing or tonight if he's really poorly.

cheesesarnie · 07/05/2008 22:42

well my first thought was urine infection but gp didnt even mention it!

Forget milk.

You need to get clear fluids down him little and often. Try ice pops, or syringing squash/water down the side of his mouth. Give him whatever he fancies (flavour of squash) even if you wouldn't normally.

Little and often is key for treatment of fever and general hydration. He must not be seriously dehydrated or GP would have noticed but he will be if he carries on like this.

DelGirl · 07/05/2008 22:43

and if you've taken him when he's been dosed with calpol he may well 'look' fine, but you know he isn't. grr, bloody gp's, some of them make me cross.

DelGirl · 07/05/2008 22:44

sorry, no offence to any gp;s on here but i've had this alot with my dd and dd has ended up very poorly cos the gp 'thinks' she looked fine when I know she wasn't.

BibiThree · 07/05/2008 22:44

Go see another gp if your instinct is telling you it's not right.

FWIW (and I'm no expert) it doesn't sound right to me.

hertsnessex · 07/05/2008 22:46

that doesnt sounds right at all. I would be straight back to GP - or i would probably bypass and go straight to the hospital.

cheesesarnie · 07/05/2008 22:47

thanks i think i will make another apointment.

hes going to love tomorrow-icelollies and squashpor little man

Now is seriously not the time to be worrying about sugar on his teeth.. in fact I'm sure his system could use the sugar!

DelGirl · 07/05/2008 22:52

have you got a syringe you can give him some fluids tonight, especially as it's so warm...well it is here

emma1977 · 07/05/2008 22:57

I agree with others here, he needs seeing again.

Hope he's OK. Keep persisting with the squash/flat pop/lollies/whatever works!

ChocolateRockingHorse · 07/05/2008 22:58

Yes I'd be syringing it in a a few times during the night. If he's on his side and you do it slowly he will probably swallow without waking. Otherwise it'll just dribble out onto pillow (put wad of kithen roll under).

I'm not the panicky mother I once was but I really would be doing this. Hydration is so important esp when ill.

Put a cup (of something clear with flavour) by the bed so he can help himself if he wakes up as well. Just a quarter of a cup. Which you should them top up.

1dilemma · 07/05/2008 23:04

A&E?

1dilemma · 07/05/2008 23:05

Sorry as in do you thin he needs A&E rather than another GP? 3 days without a good wee is a long time.

cheesesarnie · 07/05/2008 23:08

i do have a syringe thing.i'll do that tonight and see what hes like through night or in morning.but will defiantly phone go again tomorrow.

Doesn't sound right, there could be a blockage. I would take him first thing and see another doctor and if he's acting poorly/trying to be sick would go to a&e. Are there any gps on here who can advise.

yurt1 · 07/05/2008 23:52

syringe definitely. And another GP (and I am not a doctor person).

wrinklytum · 08/05/2008 00:00

Blimey.I would go back to GP,this doesn't sound right.

susiecutiebananas · 08/05/2008 00:17

I have to say, its not normal, or ok that he's not pee'd for nearly 4 days. he's not taking a huge amount of fluid, however, you still produce urine anyway. Its a waste fluid and comes from general metabolic functions, as well as fluid intake ad food intake. So he should still be producing urine despite reduced oral intake.

I would actually consider taking him to A&E tbh. He needs adequate hydration, even more so in the heat we are having - I believe its pretty warm everywhere in the country atm...

If you don't want togo straight to A&E first thing at least call your GP first thing, ad get him seen in the morning, otherwise, I think he should be seen tomorrow as early as poss.

I don't want to alarm you, I just don't think its normal, and really the GP should have done more than he/she did today.

orangehead · 08/05/2008 00:52

when my ds1 was poorly he was seen by 5 docs in 3 days, One of those docs was at a&e, all said it was viral and treated me like a paranoid mum. The 6th doc still couldnt find anything wrong but said "as you keep coming back we will get him checked out on the childrens ward". Once we got there they were brill and realized he was very poorly with pnuemonia and pleural effusion and was in hosp for a week on iv ab. Remember, although docs quailified they dont know your child and that can be equally important (just because ds is tough they didnt realise how poorly he was but I could see it in his eyes) if you not happy go back. Hope he gets better soon

luvaduck · 08/05/2008 00:58

if he really has only passed urine twice in 4 days then he does need to be seen again.
how is he now? is he asleep? what was he like before bed?
i would suggest a+e too, or calling nhs direct and getting him seen by out of hours doc. make it VERY clear that he hasn't been for 4 days
(am a gp and yes he des need to pee to keep his kidneys working)
good luck

luvaduck · 08/05/2008 01:15

off to bed
but if hes still not well and hasn't pee'd then act on it tonight
good luck!

DelGirl · 08/05/2008 17:59
