Dh's visit to the oncologist

Parsons egg, good (and bad ) in parts.

Bad news is that the chemo has stopped working and there is significant growth in the tumours in the lymph glands in his abdomen.

Good news is that there is now growth in the tumours in his lungs, since he was last scanned ( a month ago) and there is less fluid in his lungs.

So the current chemo has been stopped, and doc is exploring possible other treatment options (not sure that she eill find any, and she may be letting us down gradually).

Dh is increasingly breathless, and she has suggested a blood test to see if he is anaemic (since lungs are no worse and actually have less fluid in them)

Not great, but it could be worse

Well, thank heavens for the news that is good, but the reality of the not so good must feel a chill wind, and i'm sorry to hear that.

Fingers crossed for a way to tackle his breathlessness.

Thinking of you.

LilRedWG · 06/05/2008 17:18

Love to you all.

RosaLuxembourg · 06/05/2008 17:19

Thinking of you, MB.

Blandmum · 06/05/2008 17:20

He had already semi decided to stop the chemo, given that the lst round left him basically bed ridden for 2 weeks, and they get worse every time. I don't think that he could have physically coped with another.

I'm not getting my hopes up about more treatment, since this is the end of the second type, and from this point out things get more and more speculative.

But our consultant is very good and will explore the options and we both trust her to do the best for dh.

Phew at the good news. Sorry for the less-than-good.

brimfull · 06/05/2008 17:25

thinking of you

these visits must be quite nerve wracking for you both

Blandmum · 06/05/2008 17:29

TBH, you just sort of get used to them, and what worse news can they give us? We already have the worst prognosis. It all just becaomes managing things for the best

brimfull · 06/05/2008 17:31

Yes never thought of it like that.Good that you trust your doctors .

Blandmum · 06/05/2008 17:34

She is fantastic. Even though we had been effectivly 'signed off' active treatment in the run up to Christmas, she kept up with the research and contacted us about the possibility of using a second line treatment, which was effective, at least initially.

she didn't look too chipper today which makes me a little sad, but it is how it is.
