Sinus pressure, fatigue, no congestion

ShorehamShore · 13/01/2025 10:06

Feel very tired and run down with sinus pressure but have no congestion. Started taking beconese over the weekend but no improvement yet. Any advice on other remedies? Am I actually ill - what’s going on?! Feels very odd to have sinus pressure/pain and feel exhausted but no other cold/flu symptoms. TIA

I'm exactly the same! Achey, exhausted, can't think straight and sinus pains. No cold symptoms though. I think it can just present like this sometimes. It also always takes longer to go away than I expect aswell.

Mykittensmittens · 13/01/2025 14:49

I have sinus issues and even when I’ve had quite bad sinus infections I can still breathe clearly through my nose. The ‘rubbish’ tends to go down the back of the throat and ends up giving me an upset stomach too.

breathe in steamy water with some menthol crystals dissolved - they are very cheap from a chemist. Use a nasal rinse - like a netipot? I would be cautious with beconase and the like as they can cause something called rebound sinusitis.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 13/01/2025 15:28

Agree with mykittensmittens. Stop the beconase if it's not helping.
The pressure could be affecting your inner ear and that can make you feel unwell.
Use the old fashioned bowl of hot water steam treatment at least twice a day, you may need to do this for a week to get the benefit if the gunk is way back behind your nose. A few drops of olbas oil in the water will help, and a towel over your head.
Google sinus drainage facial pressure points, and have a go at massaging them. If it hurts when you press one, keep going, because that's the one that needs to be released. Be warned, doing this can trigger a sudden release of gunk down the back of the throat. Lovely.

Could it be the cold dry air? I also have staticky hair… googled this - cold dry air. This also came up when researching sinusitis. Would make sense with the recent weather… just boiling the kettle for a steamy inhale!

Any experience of using Neilmeds Nasogel for dry sinuses? Seems to be the only thing of its kind on the market - a bit more moisture to the nose than just Sterimar..?

Not tried it. Not heard of it, going to check it out.

ShorehamShore · 14/01/2025 19:12

Have mine on order from Boots, will let you know the verdict

I had this a few years ago. Took about 6 weeks before I tried a steroid nasal spray and it cleared it in a week.

ParaParaParaphrase · 14/01/2025 19:42

I get this all the time. I just had it for the WHOLE of December. It cleared last week. It’s awful and draining. Never found a way to get rid of it.

Did you speak to the doctor? It’s a nightmare isn’t it, so so draining. Feel like there’s an answer out there but don’t know what yet!

Was the steroid nasal spray from the GP? Is Beconese steroid…? I am pretty sure the weather change / dry weather is effecting my sinuses and felt beconese was drying them further…

Yes avamys from the GP. But I have been told to use beconase going forward as also a steroid but OTC. I do get flare ups occasionally and it helps within a couple of days.

Thanks for the reply. Were your symptoms related to dry air / cold? I am concerned a steroid spray would dry my nose further, I have no congestion just sinus pain aches and exhaustion…. Many thanks

I have no answers but am suffering from exactly the same thing and looking for answers. At the moment I am just trying to boost my immune system as nothing seems to work.

ForPearlViper · 15/01/2025 14:50

Try a very hot shower with the stream directed to the back of your neck. Sometimes that helps to start to clear things - and the steam helps of course. If that does help, try neck massages and a hot water bottle on on the back of the neck.

Foxgloverr · 15/01/2025 15:35

I've had this on and off for 3 years! Seen the ENT and he doesn't know what it is. Had camera up my nose, down my throat, MRI and all looks normal. I have no nasal mucus (snot) at all. Everything is so dry and inflamed.

I've tried sinus rinses, sprays, inhaling steam, antihistamines. These help for half an hour or so but nothing lasts. Now been referred to a rheumatologist to look at autoimmune issues but all my blood tests have come back normal.

No one seems to know what it is. I have near constant sinus pressure. Sometimes it makes me feel dizzy and sometimes I get tension headaches from it too.

Sorry that's not very helpful but am interested to see if anyone has tried anything that helps.

WiddlyTinker · 15/01/2025 15:46

I also saw the ENT with this a few years ago. They did a scan and found my sinuses were really swollen even though they weren't full of mucous. I got a course of prednisone steroids, Nasonex spray and antibiotics and it cleared it.

The problem is I can't get that from the GP when it recurs because they aren't familiar with it!

I genuinely don’t know. I was sitting on the sofa one evening and I felt this wave of exhaustion and this horrible headache which was all down my nose and across my cheeks. I felt almost numb in places on my forehead. I was a bit off balance too and Felt nauseous off and On. And it just didn’t go away. Little appetite, then the anxiety kicked in as to wtf it could be.

nobody ever diagnosed sinus issues, but after 4 weeks I went back to GP and they gave me antibiotics just in case. Nothing doing.

I went back to get then to check my ears because I was still so wobbly, all clear. They gave me steroid spray and within a week I was fine.

I now get occasional headaches that hurts my nose too that last a couple of days. Neurologist is determined they’re migraines, I have no idea. But beconase it what I take for it (painkillers don’t work).

Gnomea · 15/01/2025 18:27

Oh I should add it was decided it was sinus in the end hence the antibiotics because I had an MRI scan for something else and they found an incidental mucousal cyst in my cheek sinus space.

ShorehamShore · 16/01/2025 10:45

I have been using a humidifier but have noticed ear pressure increasing as a result, it doesn’t seem to be making me feel better either…. Breathing in steam may be helping though, hard to say, any improvements are very subtle

OP posts:
NotbloodyGivingupYet · 16/01/2025 14:24

Steam does take quite a while to work. I used to give up after a couple of days or so, then got told I need to keep going.
Btw have you tried taking a daily antihistamine? Just a cheap over the counter one. Sometimes it helps me, sometimes it doesn't.

thefamilyofthings · 16/01/2025 14:40

I sat for most of yesterday evening leaning on a hot water bottle on the sore side and feel really a lot better today.

WiddlyTinker · 17/01/2025 11:05

I've also ordered that Nasogel - let me know how you get on with it!

Fitzfuckitall · 28/03/2025 19:11

Has this got better for anybody? I’m having the same issues

ShorehamShore · 28/03/2025 19:27

@Fitzfuckitall eventually, yes. Tried two different steroid nasal sprays from GP and started steaming with menthol crystals and using Neilmed sinus rinse 2-4x a day. There was no one moment where I was suddenly better, just dissipated slowly… so I can’t really put my finger on what helped, or if it just resolved on its own. What did definitely help, temporarily, was breathing in cool fresh air outside. I always felt a noticeable improvement. How long have you had symptoms?
