my dd2 11 months has a v high temp i dont know how high as dd1 has had the thermometer and lost it, a very fast heartbeat, has slept pretty much all day has eaten vitually nothing and isnt really drinking as much as she usually does either, not even her fave fruit juice.

she also has a cough and is slighty wheezey but has already been diagnosed with asthma and has inhalers

she seems alert and happy when awake and is looking at ppl and babbling but as i said she has slept most of the day she usually only has one nap a day

could have a chest infection.
heart rate will be up to combat fever btw.
worth a call to dr if temp doesnt come down with meds imo.
Also if still wheezy after inhahlers I would get her checked

onepieceoflollipop · 04/05/2008 22:08

Sleepy baby with very high temp? And history of asthma, not drinking much either.

My advice would be to ring a doctor (or at least NHS Direct) and get proper advice. Please go and do it now.

onepieceoflollipop · 04/05/2008 22:09

Are you in the UK?

NHS Direct: Tel 0845 46 47

Elibean · 04/05/2008 22:10

Could be chest infection, could be bronchiolitis (though my dd didnt' have a high temp with it), do get her checked out...or at least get advice...

Hope she's better soon.

SlightlyMadSweet · 04/05/2008 22:10

I agree.

When you say fast hb I assume you are aware that toddlers have a faster hb anyway?

Having said that I don't disagree with other posts. You need medical advice.

copingvquietly · 04/05/2008 22:13

call.dont wiat.i did and he fited.
call now

Divastrop · 04/05/2008 22:16

i agree,a baby who is sleepier than normal and not eating/drinking as normal is best off seeing a doctor.

CrushWithEyeliner · 04/05/2008 22:23

micci25 · 04/05/2008 22:25

i have rang nhs dirc et but they are v busy am waiting for them to get a doc or nurse to call back

was just wondering if anyone elses dc's had had anything similiar have gave her calpol and cool bath to bring down her temp

yeah i am aware babies have faster hb's but hers seems too fast

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 04/05/2008 22:26

how fast is she breathing???

may be bronchhiolitis, and to be honest, going on the symptoms described, I would be ringing to be checked out.

Psychomum5 · 04/05/2008 22:28

when my DS1 had bronchiolitis, his heartbeat was above 130bpm, breathing above 60 breathes per min.

high temp, sleepy, not feeding right.

onepieceoflollipop · 04/05/2008 22:28

You may need to get organised in case they advise you to take her to hospital/out of hours surgery. So while you are keeping an eye on her and waiting for them to ring back, start planning what you need to sort out etc. Hope they ring back soon.

Offer her a little drink if she is awake and seems to want it.

Obviously if she seems to be getting worse, ring them again.

singyswife · 04/05/2008 22:30

Could be Croup. Sit with her in the bathroom and run the shower. Let her breathe the steam for as long as is comfortable for you both (it gets hot in there). Obviously strip her to do this as she may get too hot. If it is croup this should help with the breathing and the heart rate.

micci25 · 04/05/2008 22:30

she seems to breathing normally but just a bit wheezey which i presume is the asthma bothering her

am just worried about her temp really and the fact she isnt eating or drinking much she is a really good eater nothing puts her off her food she usually v active and bubbly too but has sleepy and quiet all day

OP posts:
berolina · 04/05/2008 22:32

check her rate of breathing. I am very aware of this after ds2 ended up hospitalised at 3 weeks - his only real symptom was fast breathing, he was feeding fine, no fever, nothing. Of course your dd is a lot older and less vulnerable, but still little.

I think with this set of symptoms I would get her seen.

singyswife · 04/05/2008 22:32

My dd was very ill with croup. Very high temp (spnge down etc), not eating. I would def get her checked out but maybe try the shower thing, if she is sleeping maybe try putting a bowl of water on her radiator or a wet flannel and see how this goes. Hohpe she is better soon.

onepieceoflollipop · 04/05/2008 22:32

Make sure your heating is off and keep her cool (in her vest and nappy).

If they haven't rung back in half an hour ring again - even if her condition is no worse. (unless she is better of course).

micci25 · 04/05/2008 22:35

my dd1 had croup not long ago this seems diff she is not really coughing much just a bit rattley in the cheast

nhs direct said they would ring within two hours so should be soon she is sleeping in her cot now with me and dp checking her every 5 mins he has just been and said she seems a bit cooler now

OP posts:
singyswife · 04/05/2008 22:37

Maybe it is just some crazy respitory virus. My dd has had a few of these and they can make them quite ill. Hopefully she will just sleep herself better,

onepieceoflollipop · 04/05/2008 22:39

Glad she is cooler.

It is so hard when you lo is poorly. Most of the time they "bounce back" and are fine within hours. But then you get the odd occasion (as cvq experienced) when they get poorly very quickly and really do need a doctor.

So it is always best to get checked out.

micci25 · 04/05/2008 22:40

my sis said her lo was not too well last week and it went after about two days so maybe something is going around i just get worried about the high temp and not drinking much

she does seem a bit cooler now but dd1 (4) has just revealed that she has been fanning her with the pump from the airbed! bless!!

she is still hot but burning like she was earlier

OP posts:
singyswife · 04/05/2008 22:42

Aaaawwwww how sweet, what a kind sister. My dd would probably be hitting her sister with the fan rather than trying to cool her down with it.

onepieceoflollipop · 04/05/2008 22:44

Sounds like you have a similar age gap to my dds. (4.4 years and 8 months respectively). My older one is also very kind and quite "mother hen" ish.

micci25 · 04/05/2008 22:48

yeah dd1 is very like that but also v jelous she is v ill tonight as well apparently and had to get in the cool bath with dd2 she is waiting to see if she needs to go to the doctors with dd2! poor dd2 cant even have an illness to herself

OP posts:
onepieceoflollipop · 04/05/2008 22:51

It's all extremes with my 4 yr old. When she is being kind and loving she is exceptionally kind and loving. When she feels dd2 is getting too much attention she starts doing "goo goo gaa gaa" baby talk and going a bit wild.

Keep us posted. Am off to bed soon. (2 little coughers upstairs, may be another long night) I go to bed with 2 medicine spoons, one bottle calpol and one of nurofen.
