Friday morning I woke up achey, like the start of a cold - sore throat, couldn't face food.

Took sudafed on an empty stomach (stupid plan, I can't take any meds on an empty stomach, it makes me ill).

Spent the morning on Psychomum's sofa feeling generally rough and sick from the pills.

By the evening I was over the sickness, but feeling like hell - throat, sweats, shivering.

I spent the majority of yesterday in bed (which is pretty much unheard of for me - normally I hear things spiralling out of control downstairs and i have to intervene, but I didn't have the strength).

Again - throat really painful, aching all over (no head ache oddly enough), sweating, shivering, paracetamol and ibuprofen not doing much.

Managed a vaguely decent sleep last night. The sweats seem to have stopped, but my throat is still really painful, my arms and legs are throbbing pain, and my neck (outside) feels bruised.

So......... should I be loading everyone into the car to go see the Sunday doctor? Or do we think it is just a fluey thing and will pass?

I'm not in a fit state to drive, and my mum isn't around today to help with either staying with the kids or driving

It sounds viral to me, rest and time will take care of it..not that easy with kids I know though

foxinsocks · 04/05/2008 09:29

have you been kissing cod ?

If you still feel like this on Tues, I'd go for a blood test to rule out glandular fever.

If it's a flu thing, it will pass I guess.

copingvquietly · 04/05/2008 09:30

how long have you felt like this?
poor you.it sounds horrid x

copingvquietly · 04/05/2008 09:31

i was going to say the same thing.but didnt want to freak you out

Flame · 04/05/2008 09:32

I was wondering about Cod licking my laptop or summat too

Was completely exhausted on Thursday - started crying for no real reason in the morning , by about 10pm that evening I was starting to feel achey, then it all kicked off on Friday.

Why do these things always happen on holidays???

Sorry you are feeling rough. This is going round up here, I have taken DS's friend to nursery. His Mum went down with Friday last week. She went to the doctors two days ago and was given nose drops and her DH got something for his throat. It seems to knock adults out but the children recover much quicker. I don't think the doctor will be able to do much at this point unfortunetly. Hope you feel better very soon.

glandular fever is an airborn infection aswell.i think a bloodtest would be a good idea x

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 09:47

Are your glands very swollen? I don't think it would be glandular fever without this....sounds more like a viral throat infection, which can be pretty nasty...

Flame · 04/05/2008 09:52

My entire neck is swollen by the feel of it (always hard to tell when you look in the mirror isn't it - you can never remember what "normal" looks like).

I'm worrying about the DC - DH doesn't really take them out places, so this will be the second day in a row of them being stuck inside. He is a good dad - he loves them, takes care of them, but he isn't really an active dad iyswim.

I know he is very tired, we've both had very little sleep lately.

I feel guilty that I am sat here doing sod all, but at the same time just moving hurts. I'm squinting at the screen because twisting round to get my glasses seems too much right now

foxinsocks · 04/05/2008 09:55

have you looked at your tonsils in the mirror (look for white pus at the back of your throat)?

ooh tonsilitis is horrid if it is that....

foxinsocks · 04/05/2008 09:56

I meant that sympathetically

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 09:57

These very nasty things usually feel horrible acutely for a few days IME and then it gradually eases. If it doesn't might be worth visiting your GP to get checked out I think.

Hang on in there

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 10:00

nasty viruses I meant..

foxinsocks · 04/05/2008 10:02

actually, I thought you'd had this for ages. If it's only been since Friday, you'll probably have to be brave a little longer (though I got tonsilitis a few year's ago and after about 5 days I practically begged the GP for antibiotics, I felt so awful and I hate going to the doctor (and I did get them and they worked really quickly!) so see how you feel on Tuesday).

Flame · 04/05/2008 10:12

Thank you

Going to go have a bath and try and get moving a bit, hopefully it will kick start my body into working properly

How do you manage to make that sound gleeful Cod??

Eyes feel like someone has boiled them.

No rash.

Paracetamol and nurofen have made me feel soooooooooooooo much better today (yesterday they didn't do a lot at all)

I can't get enough light in my mouth to see if my tonsils are spotted - all I can see is bigness. My tongue is white (you love it when I share these things don't you )

I have managed 2 hours being awake and pottering around trying to get a few bits done, and am now about to collapse again in my clean bedding.

Nappyzone · 04/05/2008 13:18

Get DH to get a torch and shine it in your mouth - if there are white ulcers on your throat and tonsils it is likely to be tonsilitus. Dont know about glanddular fever but i could write a book on tonsilitus.

Your whole back of throat will be swollen and your dangly thing almost touching your tongue.

I have lost loads of weight through tonsilitus - tis the only bonus - i will be a whale when they are removed!

Hope your feeling better soon....

Pavlovthecat · 04/05/2008 17:43

I ha this Flame - it was a viral throat infection, has taken me two weeks to recover fully.
By end of first week, felt much better but a bit tired. OK on monday but GP gave me another week off, by Tues sore throat back felt crap again but not like last week. Today I feel mostly ok, but not 100%.

GP said its a horrid bug which takes ages to clear. I had antibiotics so I guess it had become a bacterial infection of some kind on throat.

I hope you are feeling much better, and if it is this, go to GP when you can in case you need antibiotics, and rest as much as you can and drink lots of fliuds.

Pavlovthecat · 04/05/2008 17:45

Oh, and my glands were so swollen that my friend popped around and was shocked by how noticeable it was. Very sore neck, and blood in arms seemed to hurt?

Sounds same as you hun

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 04/05/2008 17:48

Sounds like 'proper' tonsilitis to me Flame.

Once you've had it you'll know that anyone who takes time off work saying they've got tonsilitis and then comes in 2 days later has no idea!

Flame · 04/05/2008 17:49

that sounds very much like it pavlov!

ds now on bed with me with s temp - but he is still in mmr reaction period so am hoping is that

OP posts:
Pavlovthecat · 04/05/2008 17:51

Flame - neither DH or DD got it, which is good, but annoying that it only walloped me!

I hope little one does not have it, and that you recover quickly. Remember to take it easy even if you feel like you have energy.

Flame · 04/05/2008 17:51

Oh torch batteries dead NZ
