Mole worry

Before I go to my gp and worry myself silly I need someone to help me calm down. I suffer really bad health anxiety and have been doing so well until the mole on my shoulder became slightly itchy. I stupidly googled and have convinced myself it's skin cancer. I've had it for as long as i can remember but I'm not focused so much on it. Does anyone have anything similar? Does it look worrying or normal?

Is this thread still going? You've been told it's fine several times. What are you worrying about for goodness sake. There are people with serious health issues. Go to the Dr about your health anxiety don't pass this on to your kids. Are you the same with them and keep them off school for silly things? I hope not.

Mummyto2123 · 27/05/2025 09:19

I just don't understand why it isn't healing. The girl that removed it said it should look like a chicken pox scar which this doesn't. I wish I now demanded a biopsy at the dermatologist. I had a number of panic attacks yesterday and feel so numb today.

Have you been to see your doctor about your anxiety? Nothing will change unless you take steps to address this.

JitterbugFairy · 27/05/2025 09:36

I think it's wrong you're trying to seek reassurance here. No one can help you. Get it checked and seek help for your anxiety.

Everyone’s skin heals differently, my one I had removed a couple of weeks ago by plasma pen is still bright red, it can take months. I have been where you are, have you been to your doctor about having health anxiety?. They will check it for you and give you some reassurance.

do you have young children?. I ask this because this was how my health anxiety started. I went to the doctor and luckily it’s no so bad now.

Mummyto2123 · 28/05/2025 17:27

Yes I do have children and it's how mine started too. I have had another hellish day. Can't stop crying. It's the white ring around it that's sending me in a spiral now because google says it's your immune system attacking it and it could be Melanoma

OP posts:
JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 28/05/2025 18:06

Have you spoken to the doctor about your anxiety and the extreme distress you are feeling? This is what is having the biggest impact on your health at the moment. Please do seek treatment for this - nothing will change until you make some changes.

hey op, bless you I know how you feel this all started when I had my baby, they are older now. Since having HA I’ve actually got a few health issues but I’m okay now. Please do not google, it’s not always correct and false. Please go to the doctor tell them about the mole and go from there, you won’t get better unless you get help, and you will spiral onto another thing. Good luck.

I have seen my GP and am taking 100mg sertraline. The therapist I was seeing was hopeless so I need to make a point of finding a new one. My husband just keeps thinking I'm crazy and trying to act ok in front of the kids is so hard when all I have is negative thoughts

OP posts:
JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 28/05/2025 18:55

When did you last see your GP? It doesn’t sound like the sertraline is working for you. You AREN’T crazy, but you do have a mental health problem at the moment, but it can be treated and you will improve.

this was me 9 years ago, everyone thought I was crazy. It’s very lonely and you feel like no one understands. Your mind is a 1000 miles per hour and it’s exhausting. I went to one therapist and walked out, but I did try hypnosis and It seems to have worked. Also my kids are older now.

I promise it gets easier but you do have stop googling

Mummyto2123 · 29/05/2025 19:39

That's the way I feel my husband thinks I'm crazy. I had to take time off work again. I'm just so worried about this halo and it seems to be more prominent the more I look at it. I really hope tomorrow is a better day. I ended up take two of my sertraline today to see if it would make me feel better

OP posts:
sandrevolutionary · 29/05/2025 19:50

That's not how sertraline works and you can't just randomly change your doses like that, it's not safe.

Please go back to your GP. You sound very unwell.

I use to take sertraline, it won’t help taking two lots. You are concentrating on one thing- if this was me and it was bothering me I would go to the doctor or dermatologist to reassure myself. Propanol (I think it’s called that) was the best medication that calmed me down.

Mummyto2123 · 29/05/2025 20:53

I can't get an appointment with my GP until next week. I will ask for propranolol too

I would tell them you have health anxiety, I hope you get the help you need. I know it’s awful but In time you will feel better. How old are you if you done mind me asking?.

Mummyto2123 · 29/05/2025 22:54

I'm 37 and been dealing with this for as long as I can remember now. My GP knows I have health anxiety so I'm hoping they will help me

I knew you was going to say late 30’s, I was 36 (I’m 45 now). I started getting HA around this age, had two little ones and not a supportive partner. Look up Perimenopause. I’m on hrt now and no longer have anxiety

PoopingAllTheWay · 30/05/2025 03:44

Was it sent off for to be tested?

No this is why I'm worrying now too. I couldn't afford to pay over £1000 to get it removed privately

Last year I had two large ones taken off it was £450 including biopsy. That’s very expensive for just one. If you went private they might be able to still take some from the mole and do a biopsy, the plasma pen only takes off the top of mole. But look around and get quotes some do payment plans. Looking at your photos it doesn’t look anything to be worried about.

I am still waiting on my NHS appointment coming through was hoping that would be soon but that's not looking likely. My husband said I really need to trust the experts but having health anxiety it's hard

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 30/05/2025 10:17

So get treatment for that.

Hopefully your NHS appointment will be soon, and yes your husband is right you need speak to someone about your mental health while you’re waiting.

Mummyto2123 · 02/06/2025 09:48

I've made an appointment for my GP for today. I'm hoping she can relieve my anxiety and help me get better with my mental health
