25 changes for 2025

I started a thread at the start of 2024 called "one small change each week". 2024 thread
Loved updating it and chatting to people who were also trying to make changes but maybe felt a bit overwhelmed by the usual mindset of "right, I'm losing 2 stone, cutting sugar, getting a new job and taking up 3 sports" only to feel like a failure before January is out!

It went well - the old me would have said it was a disaster as I probably kept approx 8-10 habits, but the new me thinks that's brilliant, to have 8 habits that I wasn't keeping to a year ago.

So, onto 2025. Just to encourage a bit more oomph into my brain, I'm planning on 25 for 25: 25 small changes that will improve my life next year.

Wanna join? 🙂

  1. Do a weights session 2x per week.
I've had to change gyms and I don't like the new one as much, but seeing a few older relations over Christmas, all with physical issues, is the push I need to want to get stronger.

I can't do overhauls, I don't want to count calories but I recognise that I'm living in a way that isn't making me feel very happy or healthy. So, I'...

My second one is to do a MAJOR declutter of the house. We moved four years ago to this house which needed loads doing to it, mainly now done, but I just still feel I haven't really drawn breath and got it properly sorted and all the rubbish thrown out.

Start as 🌟10 mins: 5 things🌟

Where you plan to throw away / give away / recycle 5 things every day

CorsicaDreaming · 29/12/2024 21:42

Third one is food... make and eat more from scratch using much more veg / pulses and batch cook so can have healthier options on week nights (which first requires sorting out and eating up the freezer!)

I'm in, sounds great! I have realised I give up too easily when I try to make drastic changes, so I need to make small, sustainable changes instead.

I started drinking lots more water towards the end of last year, so I want to keep that up. Two litres a day while at work, but I need to remember to drink water at the weekends too.

My first new change is to go out for a walk every lunchtime at work. I never take a lunch break and I think fresh air and a break from my computer will do me good.

Still thinking about the other changes to make!

SanctusInDistress · 29/12/2024 22:09

Mine is to stop snacking. It’s uncontrollable.

Flossi24 · 29/12/2024 22:17

I'm also marking my place. Great idea op.
I'm another one who needs to drink more water so this will be a good one to start with. I'd also like to take care of my nails and have them painted and looking nice. So that's 2 changes. May focus on them for January.

FlouryBap · 29/12/2024 22:27

Marking my place too! I would love to join in. I think my first one is going to be prepping lunch so I have something planned - as I end up just eating random stuff if I don’t. I find it hard to be bothered when it is just me. Going to try this for the first two weeks on Jan and then see what feels right next.

DustyLee123 · 30/12/2024 07:21

I declutterred my house last November. You have to be ruthless, and it’s tiring, but so worth it when it’s done. I felt like a weight had been lifted when it was done.

52for2025 · 30/12/2024 07:51

I’m in. What a great idea for a thread. I’m going to start today because it’s Monday. For week one, I’m going with drink more watet. I’ve downloaded an app to track it.

ToriTheStoryteller · 30/12/2024 08:00

@Nosleepformeeeeeee originally I was trying for one each week, but only because they were very small goals. This year I'm going to every two weeks, that gives a bit more time for me to keep up with it then (as my peri-meno brain completely forgot about some of the 2024 ones until I was reviewing how I'd done a few weeks ago 🤣)

@Flossi24 I think looking after my nails will be one too. I was looking for some photos recently and I noticed that when my hands are visible in photos I have them bunched into fists rather than fingers showing, then I noticed that I walk like that too - I must look really tense and angry all the time!!!

Totally agree. I've had a few blitzes recently, and after hours of procrastinating about wanting to try and sell things, the sense of freedom and space and optimism that kicks in the instant all the shit has left the house is incredible.

Place marking as this is exactly what I need for the coming year. I’ve let every good habit slide (not that I had many) and got considerably better at all the bad habits in the last few years. Post meno and both my physical and mental health feel a bit battered. I need to learn how to be kind to myself and not put my own health and wellbeing at the bottom of the list

No idea which of the very many things I need to change should be my first yet. As a classic over achiever, my first thought is to make a full list and do one for every week! Not that I’ve ever actually achieved that pace 🙄😂
Clearly I need to practise at ‘slow, steady and permanent’

LadyLucksalot · 30/12/2024 14:10

This is a great idea - thank you OP! I remember your original thread. I'm going all in!

Mine include:

  • Health: breakfast every day, including berries and cinnamon. It's just so much better to start the day with fuel in my engine, rather than running on fumes until lunch.
  • Family: re-prioritise weekly date night at home with DH - beautifully set table, special meal with a lovely starter. Mini-adventures with the children every weekend.
  • Fitness: swimming three times a week, rather than one long session once a week. Little and often seems to work better for me in all things.
  • Happiness: Listen to radio comedy on BBC sounds and find something that makes me laugh out loud every day.
  • Finance: move to using cash for weekly shopping and giving myself a spending plan, rather than a budget. So, if I spend 10 euro less that week on groceries, put this into an envelope and put it towards holiday spending.
Hatty65 · 30/12/2024 19:41

Ok, so another lovely (cold) sunny day here on the East Coast and I took a long walk along the sea front, so I'm pleased with my day and getting my outdoor time in.

2nd habit I've tried to incorporate is '100 Happy Days'. Basically the idea is to take a photo every day of something small that made you happy. You then can print the photos out and put them in a book if you like - and you have 100 Happy Day memories.

I took a photo of the sea, so that's my first 'happy day' change.

Lesina · 29/12/2024 06:35

im in :) first one is to drink more water. I’m terrible at drinking water.

Me too!

holidayfever2024 · 30/12/2024 22:32

Hello all -this is right up my street, count me in!
I need to have a bit of a think about where to start so will read your previous thread and make a list!

Samphire44 · 31/12/2024 09:17

Established some good habits in 2024 so looking to maintain and build on these
Need to maintain
A) only eating whole foods
B) at least 2 weights sessions a week and 8k steps a day

Need to be more consistent in
A) getting early morning light outside as thus really helps my sleep

Need to introduce as new habit
A) being more positive around other people and a better friend.
2024 I worked a lot on my physical health. This year I am going to try to work on my mental health.

roboroughgirl · 31/12/2024 09:18

Journaling. It amazes me how writing stuff down really helps. Mosely does a good episode on it on his Just One Thing...

Neveragain8102 · 31/12/2024 10:15

I'm in. I'm almost 50 - have had a truly shit 20 years and I'm done. Time to make changes.

I think my first one will be at least 1 daily 30 minute walk

cherrysodas · 31/12/2024 11:07

Oh can I join. I NEED to make changes this year. I feel like up till now I could get away with my lack of fitness and poor diet and late nights, early morning. I had youth on my side. Now I’m in my 40’s it’s taking a toll.

rockingbird · 31/12/2024 11:57

Such a great idea! I need to set myself some goals for 2025. First up will be sit-ups daily in the morning instead of scrolling SM!

BabstheBounder · 31/12/2024 12:26

I would like to join.

First thing is to incorporate some weight training into my exercise routine. The easiest for me is kettlebells twice a week. I don't want to join a gym and lifting kettlebells is what I can fit into life.

Second... it needs ro be reducing time on my phone. I spend too much time doom scrolling and checking and rechecking social media for... no reason. So I will put time controls back on my phone and keep to it.

Third... use that time in the evenings to either read or sew. I love doing both but claim I have no time when I do, I just waste it.

Foxybyname · 31/12/2024 12:30

Great idea OP thank you.

To start with, mine are:

  • Drink more water
  • Walk - minimum 30 mins either before work or at lunchtime
  • Regular (and chunky) mortgage overpayments
  • Less time on phone
  • Start reading again
SillymeenaHunk · 31/12/2024 18:48

I guess my first week's one must be to keep track of my eating, exercise etc so that I keep to my resolutions.

Sturnidae · 31/12/2024 23:10

I would like to join in with this as I need some focus, though not all of mine are general health related, and I we're a full on Neurospicy household so trying to carve out time for anything is hard sometimes 😫And I've just found out I'm pregnant with number 3 so that's going to put a spanner in the plans 😅 However, I have had shite eating habits for a long times now as we didn't have a kitchen for a year and a half, so getting back in the kitchen and making food is a big one for me both for healthy habits and finances. I'm vegetarian so Veganuary isn't a huge stretch for me, but it's another kitchen based thing to get me back in there!

But heyho, my list so far:

  1. Complete 25 creative projects
  2. Use the Instant Pot 25 times
  3. Get outside every day
  4. Progress to a 50% WFPB diet
  5. Progress to a 7am wake up 5 days out of 7
  6. Renew pool membership - use it weekly
  7. Fix the canoe
  8. Take the kids out on the canoe
  9. Declutter: Get a skip and Throw. Stuff. Out.
  10. Paint the kitchen/dining area
  11. Get a dentist
  12. Walk myself twice a week (and the dog, who I shall call Floofus, when she's better.)
  13. Read for pleasure again
  14. Give Veganuary a good go!
  15. Use the Air Fryer 25 times
ripple73 · 01/01/2025 00:45

I would love to join too. As others have mentioned, Dr Moseley's one more thing is brilliant - have been standing on one leg brushing my teeth, doing squats and press ups whenever I remember.
Really really want to use that leisure club membership properly and swim every week!!!!
