25 changes for 2025

ToriTheStoryteller · 29/12/2024 06:07

I started a thread at the start of 2024 called "one small change each week". 2024 thread
Loved updating it and chatting to people who were also trying to make changes but maybe felt a bit overwhelmed by the usual mindset of "right, I'm losing 2 stone, cutting sugar, getting a new job and taking up 3 sports" only to feel like a failure before January is out!

It went well - the old me would have said it was a disaster as I probably kept approx 8-10 habits, but the new me thinks that's brilliant, to have 8 habits that I wasn't keeping to a year ago.

So, onto 2025. Just to encourage a bit more oomph into my brain, I'm planning on 25 for 25: 25 small changes that will improve my life next year.

Wanna join? 🙂

  1. Do a weights session 2x per week.
I've had to change gyms and I don't like the new one as much, but seeing a few older relations over Christmas, all with physical issues, is the push I need to want to get stronger.

I can't do overhauls, I don't want to count calories but I recognise that I'm living in a way that isn't making me feel very happy or healthy. So, I'...

I’m here for it!

Lesina · 29/12/2024 06:35

im in :) first one is to drink more water. I’m terrible at drinking water.

Gemütlich81 · 29/12/2024 06:37

Yes, this is a great idea! I am going to start making a list. At the end of October I started weight training twice per week and made it non-negotiable! I have kept to it and I want to keep that going into 2025. There are definitely lots of small things I would like to become habits. Looking forward to the group encouraging each other ☺️

OuiLaLa · 29/12/2024 06:52

Oooo, I like the threads. Good idea thanks OP. Mine is to get myself to bed earlier but honestly have loads to change!

LetsGoDoDoDo · 29/12/2024 07:07

Placemarking... I don't know where to start but I see that's the point of the thread! I WFH and towards the end of last year I started walking for two miles before work. It's made a huge difference to my well-being so I'll definitely aim to keep that up.

I suppose mine is to work on my upper body strength so that I am able to do full push-ups. I'd like to aim to be able to do 10 in a row by the end of 2025.

Great thread OP!

KnutsfordCityLimits · 29/12/2024 07:24

I'll join in, I'm pretty good at exercising in general but since I started a new job, I'm sitting a lot more, so my change is to make sure I go out every lunchtime and walk for 30 minutes.

mejustmenothingtobe · 29/12/2024 08:41

Marking my place. Great idea. Thanks.

Are you seeing benefits from this or just feeling better in yourself for doing it (if that makes sense)?

I want to start doing this but worry I won't see any benefit, get bored and stop Blush

I think you're right. 8 new positive habits is amazing!

Great threads OP. Plenty of inspiration here. I'm in for 2025

BuzzYourGirlfriendWoof · 29/12/2024 09:03

A tad ironic, but the thing I need to change is the amount of time I spend doom-scrolling on Mumsnet. I could be reading, meal planning, meal prepping, tidying away etc, but I waste so much time on here. I also just mindlessly read it when I’m supposed to be watching a TV show or film and that’s a habit I want to break. So I think I’ll start putting my phone in another room a lot of the time.

Yes, I am getting stronger and able to lift more weight and increase reps. I also need to focus on eating better and losing weight but I know my muscles are developing (under the fat 😅). Also so good to finally feel like I am sticking to something.

toodles9 · 29/12/2024 09:51

Sounds good @Gemütlich81!

Stick at it Flowers

MotherOfCatBoy · 29/12/2024 09:58

In!
another ironic social media one. But I should really stay off my phone more; I want to read more books and I find I often read a bit, need a break, pick up my phone and then don’t pick up the book again. So it’s something about deep concentration.
Im going to try to have a phone holiday every Sunday.
So I should get off now!

Hatty65 · 29/12/2024 15:03

Thanks, OP!

I've had a very positive day where I've been outside for a LOT of it - for once we've had some very weak sunshine. It has been cold but I've walked on the beach and got a lot of fresh air.

Being outside for 30 mins a day is my first habit that I want to stick to.

ChangingHabitsWithKindness · 29/12/2024 15:31

I'm in! Love the idea of 25 changes for 25.

It's taken me many years for the penny to drop about making small changes and doing it with self compassion.

@Lesina hydration is a priority change I want to make too.

@BuzzYourGirlfriendWoof @MotherOfCatBoy less time on Mumsnet is another change I want to make. I waste so much time when I could be walking with a podcast, reading or doing something else more beneficial.

So initial things I'd like to change are:
Start the day with a pint of water
Swap Mumsnet scrolling for reading a book or watching TV without a phone in my hand

Nosleepformeeeeeee · 29/12/2024 16:01

I was thinking about your thread earlier and happy to see this one starting now!

My first one is to cut down on the fizzy drinks. I can go through countless cans a day and so am going to start by cutting down to 2 a day and then go from there.

I moved onto fizzy water with fresh lime juice. I can’t drink pop now.

ClumsyBastard · 29/12/2024 16:06

@BuzzYourGirlfriendWoof & @ChangingHabitsWithKindness me too!

I'm thinking about blocking the website on my router but I'll need to investigate that first!

I'm in. I'll have a think about priorities as they are piss loads I'd 'like' to do....

Currently on a post Christmas downer. This could be the pick up I need!

ToriTheStoryteller · 29/12/2024 18:05

So nice to see old and new names joining - you are all already giving me new ideas.

I'm definitely in on the irony of trying to cut phone use when we are all on here! I'm going to go back to cold turkey of not using it from 8pm-7am which has been on and off depending on how much shit is hitting the fan during real life. It made such a difference to my sleep when I stuck to it, plus as DS is now a year older and with his own phone (and his ASD makes him very pedantic/focused on detail) I really need to walk the talk on screen time.🤣

I also need to increase water - i thought i drank a lot, but when I monitored it today I didn't have my first one until 10.30....I'd had 3 teas by then!

Induction at the gym tomorrow so I won't have the excuse of this gym's machines being unfamiliar now.

@ClumsyBastard one thing I found helpful at the start of this year was to only think of one habit at a time, then they kind of evolved throughout the year. It might work if you are someone who is overly-ambitious/optimistic then prone to feeling like you 'failed'.🙂

Nosleepformeeeeeee · 29/12/2024 20:08

How long do you practice the new habit for before introducing the next??

StripyRedSocks · 29/12/2024 20:14

I’m in: my first habit to introduce is 1 swim a week - starting with 30 min swim.

makemineadecaf · 29/12/2024 20:44
  • To make regular overpayments on the mortgage. Currently 12 years left but I'm aiming for 9/10!
~ I joined a dance class in the summer so will keep that up.
  • monthly date nights with my husband
marmitegirl01 · 29/12/2024 21:05

Going to give intermittent fasting a whirl. Starting with an eating window then looking at actual foods/ nutrition.
Also to read more and scroll less especially at bedtime.
Looking forward to get inspired from ideas on here
Great idea thanks 👏

CorsicaDreaming · 29/12/2024 21:31

I'm in!

My first one is getting back to swimming early morning at least twice a week 🏊🏻‍♀️
