Has anyone had Blepharoplasty with local anesthesia as opposed to general?

Yes I did.

i was a bit worried because I’m pretty squeamish but I really liked my very highly recommended surgeon and he doesn’t do it under general.

susiedaisy1912 · 01/11/2024 17:40

Place marking as I'm seriously considering this procedure. My upper eyelids are drooping so far over my eyes now they are literally resting on my eye lashes.

sharpclawedkitten · 01/11/2024 18:15

Yes my mum did. She said it was about the most hideous thing she'd ever had done and she's had a few nasty things done medically. Hers was for medical reasons and the consultant said it was better to do it under local.

I should add the surgery itself was absolutely fine, but the aftermath was hard. I looked like I’d been hit by a bus.

I had upper blephaplasty recently under local anaesthetic and have no issues whatsoever. Obviously had swollen eyes ans some soreness afterwards but very pleased with the results

sauvignonplonk1 · 01/11/2024 18:33

Yes- no issues at all

Summerhillsquare · 01/11/2024 18:35

Why is it better? Just none of the risks of a general anesthetic?

josuk · 01/11/2024 18:37

Had it done under local and was totally fine. Less painful than some fillers I’ve had.

You cant do it under general anaesthesia as doctor needs to be very careful about how much to cut. And if you are asleep - everything relaxes in a different way to the way you are when being awake and upright.

Recovery was fine too. I made sure to sleep half sitting for first few days. Put pillows around and wore an airline pillow around neck - was worried i would lie on he side and or rub the eyes when asleep.

Really happy with results.

Oh that looks fab! Where did you have it done? Don't suppose you're in the North West?

localnotail · 01/11/2024 19:38

Could any of you please recommend someone in London?

Busydoinnuthin · 03/11/2024 09:45

I had mine done at the Spire hospital in Didsbury, Manchester. Would recommend the surgeon Mr McDonald

thinend · 03/11/2024 10:14

@Busydoinnuthin was this recently? I can't find that consultant on the spire website.

KnottedTwine · 03/11/2024 10:17

Not had this but have had other eye surgery to deal with the little channel which drains your tears away getting blocked. It is a very weird sensation to be wide awake but to see someone coming towards your eye with sharp objects. I didn't feel a thing though and the surgeon talked to me throughout.

Sorry, wrong surgeon! Mr Jonathan Duncan, really nice guy too!

Amithatbad1 · 03/11/2024 10:32

EyesEyesEyes that looks fantastic!
What's the scarring like?
I heard someone say that their eyeshadow emphasised the scarring. What's your experience?
Anyone had this done in the South West and could recommend a surgeon?

boysinbars · 03/11/2024 10:35

@EyeEyeEyes fabulous result; you must be thrilled

Busydoinnuthin · 03/11/2024 14:07

It cost £4680 . There are places that are cheaper but I didn't want to take any risks so went for the best.

Amazing results

EyeEyeEyes · 03/11/2024 14:30

Scarring is almost non existent and it’s really in the crease of the eye so you’d have to be very close to notice.

I had anticipated worse since as a rule I scar badly, so I’m thrilled. Power eyeshadow completely covers it but iridescent cream shadows can accentuate it a little .

LorettyTen · 03/11/2024 14:36

@EyeEyeEyes you look great!

PilatesPeach · 03/11/2024 14:44

I had upper eyelid surgery - chalazion removal - with Dr Annette Bacon in Reading and she does blepharoplasty too - I found her very good. She works out of Spire and Chiltern Medical.

A friend did have blepharoplasty with Dr Bacon and was pleased with the results.

KatharinaRosalie · 03/11/2024 14:44

Yes, local plus sedation, so was all totally chilled and relaxed. Looked a bit scary for about 3 days, but got stitches out on day 5 and could go around without any funny looks.
