Best way to break up a huge bruise?

DaftyLass · 23/10/2024 22:56

Not break up exactly, but get it to heal quicker ?
I am using Epson salt baths, arnica oil, and eating clean
It is on the back of my thigh, and is too painful to sit on , and about the size of a dinner player

I would say arnica too. And time. But it depends what you've done? When I had a bruise like that, I'd torn my hamstring and the bruising was the least of my problems.

Hirrudoid gel will take the colour out of a bruise. A physio told me to alternate heat and ice, plus massage it if you can best it.

comedycentral · 23/10/2024 23:02

Gosh, how did you manage that. I hope you are not too sore OP.

5byfive · 23/10/2024 23:05

Google kinesiology tape for bruising videos.
Best known brand tape is probably Rocktape but Tesco or Boots will have a version of it.

This is it , for the not squeamish

please reassure us that you have seen an actual doctor. That is not a home treatment situation.

This!!! Shock

Ruthietuthie · 24/10/2024 00:41

WOW! That is a significant bruise. What did the doctor say? You poor thing - that must be so painful.

DaftyLass · 24/10/2024 00:41

I did go to the hospital, but they barely glanced at this, they were focused on my knees (x ray) , hip(x-ray)ankle (CT scan) and hand/wrist (x-ray)
All soft tissue injuries, for which I am very grateful

@DaftyLass, you poor thing! Arnica does help.

RareitySparkles · 24/10/2024 00:42

Yikes! Dh had a bruise he ignored for months. He was left with a hematoma??? Near his kidney. Took ages to fade and not sure if that ever internally went?

DaftyLass · 24/10/2024 01:02

@RareitySparkles did anything help?

Rennovating4Eva · 24/10/2024 22:14

How are you today, @DaftyLass ? Not too achey, I hope, it sounds like you had had a nasty accident there Flowers

Ineedanewsofa · 24/10/2024 22:22

Holy shit @DaftyLass that’s a proper bruise! As well as using arnica cream/gel, get some arnica tablets to take to heal from the inside. Also anti inflammatories like ibuprofen to reduce any swelling internally

Birdscratch · 24/10/2024 22:30

Ouch. For the first 48 hours after the injury you can use an ice pack on it. Wrap it in a towel so it’s not touching the skin directly and put it on the area for 15 minutes max. You can repeat this several times a day. After 48 hours you can use a heating pad in the same kind of way.

Bestyearever2024 · 24/10/2024 22:30

Wow!

As long as you've seen a doctor and they're happy....and there's no broken skin, use arnica cream

Arnica pillules too

DaftyLass · 24/10/2024 22:38

I am still body sore but definitely starting to mend, it's hard to sleep though as when I turn over it pulls on the leg , and I toss a lot!

Just to add a little fun into it all I have sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease, it just adds that extra layer of ouch.
DH has been fantastic though and is taking care of the house and me , and D's, the driver, has been fetching tea and chocolate and offering to do anything he can, even though it was not his fault at all.

Yep. Ice. Get a couple of the blue ice packs at your pharmacy, or better for your pocket, bargain store, and rotate applying them.

I asked my osteopath about the advice online about not touching the skin direct and leaving for only a certain number of minutes. He laughed. By all means cover the ice pack up until it's comfortable on your skin but the heat of your body melts the ice pack and it excessively unlikely the cold will do any damage to your skin. If you have ice packs on for 24 hours the worst that will happend to you is that your skin might get a little pink and you'll get chilly.

Don't use heat on a bruise. It's OK for muscle pain but no use at all for a bruise.

Choconuttolata · 25/10/2024 00:01

You could try comfrey ointment in addition to the arnica too.

Nat6999 · 25/10/2024 05:07

Arnica tablets & massage to spread out the bruising if you can, it will look worse before it clears up but will clear up much faster.

PaulaTrilloe · 25/10/2024 05:27

My.consultant prescribed Tranexemic Acid tablets as I had terrible Leukemia bruising (Ribena purple!) which stopped internal bleeding. It's also used to regulate excessive bleeding from periods and nose bleeds. Might help

Hope you feel better soon

Xxx

I'd imagine the most important thing is effective pain relief! I hope you've been given more than paracetamol.

How on earth did a car end up on you, if you don't mind me asking?

Laffydaffy · 25/10/2024 05:44

That is such an impressive bruise. Kind of reminds me of Gordon Ramsay's bike accident bruise.

Nothing else to add except continue with heat, regular arnica/hirudoid and anti-inflammatories. Gentle exercise, like swimming or slow walk is, could help later.
