You're not alone, my symptoms started today - couldn't stop sneezing this morning, and my eyes have been soooo itchy.

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 22/04/2008 22:00

do you take anything splish

OP posts:
splishsplosh · 22/04/2008 22:16

I don't know if I can, because I'm pg. I used to take the Boots 1 a day tablets, because Piriton just knocks me out totally, makes me feel like I've taken a sleeping tablet (I guess) and Piriteze wasn't much better. Usually wearing contact lenses seems to help my eyes not be too bad, but it wasn't working today.

What about you? Aren't nasal sprays supposed to be good?

zippitippitoes · 22/04/2008 22:17

i think im going to try a nasal spray

tho i thought they were bad for you

OP posts:
splishsplosh · 22/04/2008 22:19

What are they supposed to do to you? I've never tried them, and it seems ages since I was able to take anything, what with pg and bf, and pg.
What i miss is children's Piriton, I used to love love love that when I was young

zippitippitoes · 22/04/2008 22:22

oh i just googled apparently this year is supposed to be going to be the worst for years could be birch pollen

Brilliant news

barking · 22/04/2008 22:49

I've suffered with hayfever for years and tried most treatments including steriod injections right across to acupuncture and homeopathy.

I will list in order of what really works (these are all drug free}:

medinose Its changed my life, I used this all of last summer and yes expensive but brilliant, my ds2 uses it aswell.

nasopure try not be scared off by the photo, it washes out all the pollen - thats why you don't get hayfever when it rains or by the beach - lots of good articles and other netipots but the nasopure is the most powerful

vasaline or balm smeared up nose and around eyelashes

plant spray (buy from garden centre £1.00) put on fine mist setting, fill with water and spray over self, furniture, clothes, hair, near windows, pets and others if necessary, I also buy small travel sprays and keep in the car/in handbag. The idea is to keep the air as damp as possible.

Last resort, have a shower, wash hair and change clothes
Think thats it!

sarahsixtoes · 22/04/2008 23:01

I get really bad Rhinitis/Hayfever and Flixonase and Beconase work really well. I can feel them working almost immediately.

zippitippitoes · 22/04/2008 23:08

i have lots of allergies which used ot be a problem but then werent so bad but this is awful..i had thought i had somewho grown out of it

that is expensive isnt it but i have to do something or i will go mad not to speak of it being a very bad look too

OP posts:
barking · 22/04/2008 23:28

someone on another allergy thread said that Lloyds do a cheaper version of the medinose and highly recommended it

Yes the light really does make your nose bright red, but I promise you it works. I was desperate and paid the full amount and it has been worth it. One year I resorted to wearing a industrial dust mask while I was driving as I was sneezing so badly I'm sure I was dangerous on the roads.

I think the medinose is something to do with the light waves desensitising the nasal membranes...If you go on the medinose website I think it will explain in better detail

avenanap · 22/04/2008 23:28

Try some elderflower cordial.

Thankfully I don't get it too badly, but yes, plenty of sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes over here! Some sort of tree pollen according to the tv I think.

lots of tree pollen at this time of year - have a look here - you can download a time line thing for different species at the bottom.
