FIT(poo) test from Amazon positive, high sensitivity vs NHs test?

Hello,
I had some bloating, a bit of mucous in stool and some pains and lots of wind lately, visited GP who examined me and said I should do FIt test ( I haven’t yet as I was away)

I ordered some FIT tests meanwhile from Amazon to test my poo myself and today it came out positive.
I am absolutely scared now.
I looked into the test values and it says sensitivity is 50ng/ml.
Now I don’t know what that means, is it highly sensitive or more sensitive than NHS one?
I thought It’s negative in the first 5 minutes and then I looked around 8-9 mins and I saw the faint pink line. I repeated the test as I had two and the same, turned faint pink. .
I read that drinking alcohol can interfere, I had some last night and also I have internal/ external hemoroid which does not cause any issues but I know I got it and sometimes it can get sore if constipation.
Im absolutely worried now. I was to take my child out today and now I totally don’t feel it to even go out.
Anyone understand those values?

Is 50ng very sensitive? I read that nhs has 10 and that means positive?

Me and DH both had positive results on the Amazon tests and both negative on the NHS test. I won't use them again.

Kitkat1523 · 28/09/2024 09:32

You need to get an nhs one done ….they will also do a faecal calprotein…if results indicate with this one….. you will get a referral for colonoscopy …..do it monday

Norfolkforests · 28/09/2024 09:36

Thanks everyone. I’m just absolutely frozen with fear now. I think the reason why I also didn’t do the NHS yet as I am too scared so I did the Amazon ones as I thought I am ok to do it myself ..and see for myself.

Just to add that a positive still has many different possible causes, and it’s still very unlikely to be anything sinister.

Amillionstars · 28/09/2024 09:41

I had a positive Amazon and then a negative qfit (nhs)

Norfolkforests · 28/09/2024 09:43

It’s probably the fear of the colonoscopy, i had sigmoidoscopy 7 years ago for different issue and it was absolutely horrendous both the preparation and the actual procedure.

@Amillionstars @TheGirlWithGlassFeet
I had this one.. and I am pretty sure I done it properly according the instructions.

They do both here as routine ….then a decision made as to whether to refer as urgent or standard

Norfolkforests · 28/09/2024 11:34

@Kitkat1523 thank you. Do you mean in the England?

Being too scared is extremely counterproductive. If you DO have cancer then catching it early helps a great deal. A person would just make their situation worse by waiting, if they did have it and didn't act promptly.

Go the doctor and take your test results with you.

Norfolkforests · 28/09/2024 11:56

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter im just literally hiding my head in the sand, ignoring all signs and issues.
Im so scared and thinking if ignoring this it will go away.
I used to be at the DRs with any tiny thing when much younger and now these days I realised I’m older and I don’t want to go Dr as they will send me for lots of invasive tests I don’t want to go.
Instead I just travel the web looking for an answers like this.
Could someone please talk to me to go to the dr and bring them the sample as I’m so worried.
that’s partially why I did the Amazon test, fully hoped that would be negative and I wouldn’t need to go DR at all and it actually shocked me that is shows positive..

Please don’t ignore the Amazon result. NHS tests show negative as they set the target very high as they don’t have the resources to treat everyone. I have had a similar experience of passing the NHS FIT test and failing an Amazon one. I went to the doctor and was referred to bowel specialist. They were able to start successful treatment early but If I had ignored the Amazon test and waited on it showing positive on an NHS test I would not have had a positive outcome.
At the very least they will check you and tell you that it’s all clear.

VioletladyGrantham · 28/09/2024 12:21

My husband's NHS one came back positive. It turned out to be diverticulitis. Apparently the markers are the same.

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 28/09/2024 12:25

The sooner you take the NHS test, the sooner they can either (a) let you know you are fit and well and save you from worrying more or (b) start early treatment with a better prognosis and be less invasive.

There is no downside to taking the NHS test.

In the meantime know that result (a) is most likely, so try to distract yourself with nice things.

Norfolkforests · 28/09/2024 12:26

@Parfect i just read about the values that if you have the FIT test through the testing program the threshold is higher as you say but that if you actually go to the GP with symptoms, then the threshold should be same as the Amazon one.

OP posts:

I’m just thinking if I actually done the test wrong?
In the instructions it says dig the stick 3x into - I did at least 10 x into various places and after mixing it with then put 2-3 drops into the test well, I put quite a lot drops. I don’t know if that is significant and has to precise??
Also with the NHS am I suppose to dig into or just scrape outside?
I thought inside is more significant to see what is inside?

Yes England

Longtimemento · 28/09/2024 12:57

Op , you’ve got a haemorrhoid!!! I’m sure you know that can affect a stool test result…just see your gp for goodness sake as you are just getting yourself extra stressed and you still need the nhs test anyway.

Norfolkforests · 28/09/2024 13:19

@Kitkat1523 symptom … Sorry if TMI everyone!!!
I had some really bad bloating and pains a month ago, have an occasional mucous but always had it for years.
I had a private stomach ultrasound last month and it was clear, I know It’s not reliable as colonoscopy but they still could see all my insides inc my large bowel and other bits like pancreas, liver etc.
The bloating improved and also the mucous is not noticeable much now.
However I got a pain in left side of my bellybutton, but then again I have a small umbilical hernia for many years so I thought It’s from it.
Poo situation is ok actually, never diarrhoeasor anything just very occasional had a pleasure of lovely wet fart but that stopped lately too.

If anything I can get constipated sometimes as I drink absolutely nothing ( just a coffee in the morning)

OP posts:
Norfolkforests · 28/09/2024 13:23

@Longtimemento the hemoroid only comes out if really constipated or used too much toilet paper otherwise I don’t even know about it.
I had internal one too apparently ( this was findings on Sigmoidoscopy years ago) never noticed any issues with it..
I can’t imagine that would cause bleed? Is that possible?

OP posts:
Kitkat1523 · 28/09/2024 13:26

ok..so you had an abdo scan which has shown nothing sinister….so that’s good….now make an appointment for Monday at your gp ……tell them where you are up to….what you are worried about…..ask for a fit test and faecal calprotein test….. results will be back in a couple of days…..your anxiety will remain sky high until you’ve done this …….. no more googling….or listening to random people diagnosing you on here……get off this thread ….it’s doing you no good
