Does chickenpox start with a temp?

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 15:01

DD had a temp last night, didn't look "well" this morning, but she sobbed her heart out at the suggestion of being off school.

We came to the deal that if she ate all her breakfast and got dressed by herself (she normally whinges and asks for help) then she was well enough to go.

Sent her... now just had a call from mum (works at the school) and told that 3 in her class have gone down with pox and one is her best friend.

Just preparing myself for likelihood really!!!

Desperately hoping not... DS had his MMR last week, really don't want chickenpox whilst he is fighting that, he is low enough already

Not ignoring replies, going to Psycho's... will probably swipe a laptop there

yes generally starts with temp, off colour, wingey for a few days then spots tend to come out. make sure you get in the calpol, nurofen, calamine, eurax.

Purplepillow · 21/04/2008 15:57

Also would recommend you get piriton syrup, it helps reduce the itching, better than calamine imo.

It must be rife as trinityrhino's dd3 has got it too, almost a year to the day since she had them

Psychomum5 · 21/04/2008 16:14

Gecko has it again???

She is looking awful - bright pink and feverish shivering All she is upset about is leaving school early and me saying she most likely won't be going tomorrow

(Tis Flame btw)

dustystar · 21/04/2008 16:18

Oh no poor minflame

Psychomum5 · 21/04/2008 16:21

real psycho this time

me thinks tis the pox....or....tonsils!!!!

typically tho, it will be pox as it wouldn;t be convenient and wait till the hols would it. (not wanting to make hols bad, but flamegirl lives for school!!)

altho, if the half-term hols, would then hit her b/day, so may be being 'kind' after all...

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 17:35

She's perking up a bit now the meds have kicked in. Smells hideous and is getting very upset at the concept of "probably no school tomorrow" (not saying def no school - knowing her she could be fine by morning... she bounces back very quick )

Thanks for the email Dusty

barbamama · 21/04/2008 19:26

my ds had it last week. First 2 spots seen last Sunday, Monday full blown. He has a temp the previous Friday night and a high one the Saturday night. Get the Calamine cream, Piriton etc in just in case.

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 19:28

It is sounding like that What if me and DH get it???

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 19:39

Are my arms generally bumpy... or am I seeing more coming??

(That lump on my hand has burst btw)

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 21/04/2008 20:34

eeeek re the burst hand spot....

and

if you and DH get it, then I am guessing that a black cross on the door might do it

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 20:35

Itching all over now, but i get the feeling it is like when someone mentions headlice and you start scratching, or when you read PELVIC FLOORS you start clenching

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 20:35

(The spot on my hand didn't look poxy though did it???)

OP posts:
Fllight · 21/04/2008 20:40

Haven't you had it Flame?

Beauregard · 21/04/2008 20:43

Has she had cold type symptoms as well as the temp?
My dd's started like that and the GP said it was classic chicken pox symptoms.

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 20:43

This is the thing... I have spoken to my mum, and apparently I have had it... twice.

This either means I am VERY immune and I should be fine, or I don't build an immunity.

I know I didn't build an immunity to my hep B jabs when I worked in the hospital

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 21/04/2008 20:43

well...it was blister-like (as I said at the time), but no, not pox like as no redness around it!!

was it itchy then/now?

Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 20:44

DD was very quiet yesterday and complained of a headache all day. Today she has complained of head and throat (which leans towards the tonsil theory).

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 21/04/2008 20:45

everything is itchy now

Tis generally itchy there anyway because of my eczema.

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 21/04/2008 20:46

.......twice......

you had MY share then

if you now share with me (IF you have it that is), I will cry!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE NOT HAD IT PROPERLY, NOR AM I IMMUNE..... >

(if you do get it again, it will be mild cos you have already had it, so my faithful source says)
