Buzzing sensation in legs - help!

Help please! I have been having strange body sensations this year. Pins and needles. Numbness. Tingling etc.

I'm now experience buzzing in my left leg and a tingling patch on my left arm.

I've had an mri of head and spine a few months ago and it was normal. Extensive blood tests were normal too and no deficiencies. I have visual migraines too.

I can't help but think they have missed something like MS! anybody have any similar experiences, what did it turn out to be? Feeling so stressed about it all with no answers.

Gosh - I could have written this post! Haven’t been on Mumsnet in years and trying to stay off Google. Am in exam same boat. Weird tingling/buzzing/fast pulse in my left foot/below my knee. And driving me to distraction. And scaring me. My mum has MS and so I go to a dark place.
Have had MRI on spine and brain and neurologist said not MS and possibly stress related and should settle down. That was June and it is still bad.
I had Covid and a horrid chest infection in January that knocked me for 6. And I wonder if linked to that.
But worried. And know I need to find a way of managing my mind now as I suspect that constantly thinking about it is exacerbating it!

glowdownto · 18/08/2024 08:31

If you had ms they would see lesions in your brain scan, this would be hard to miss thought if your not happy ask for a second opinion. The tingling is most likely neuropathy.

lillyg34 · 18/08/2024 08:33

@Baggytrousers2021 this is so interesting because I had covid in January as well! Although my symptoms started in April and still here. I'm getting so depressed about it all. I've convinced myself it's MS :-( sorry about your mum, I hope she is doing ok?

Did they offer you additional tests other than the MRI?

@glowdownto do you know what could cause neuropathy? I've had soooo many blood tests and they can't find anything. Not diabetes or vitamin deficiency (I have been taking lots of supplements just in case)

I understand these fizzing/buzzing sensations are a potential Covid/Covid vaccine side effect.

I think some London teaching Hospitals are investigating.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/08/2024 08:58

Do you take vitamins? B6 can cause tingling in hands and feet, particularly if you take two vitamins that both contain B6.

Sourisblanche · 18/08/2024 09:05

I’ve had this on and off since I had Covid badly back in march 2020. Had lots of tests with no diagnosis so have put it down to some form of long covid.

lillyg34 · 18/08/2024 09:58

@Sourisblanche how interesting. Where do you get your tingles?

OP posts:
lillyg34 · 18/08/2024 09:58

@Bluefields96 thank you for sharing this. I never considered it could be this!

It’s lower body for me. Especially my feet and lower legs. Last night I woke up and felt ‘buzzy’ all over but did get back to sleep again.

My GP did mention a long Covid clinic but I’m not sure what they can do for me. It is liveable compared to how some people fared after having Covid.

DeliciousApples · 18/08/2024 16:06

I've had that too, like a mobile phone on vibrate in my legs and arms randomly for years - but when I looked my phone handy fallen next to me it was miles away on the table and not ringing...

Yes, same here. Happened overnight though ...

sunsetsandboardwalks · 18/08/2024 18:09

Are your vitamin levels okay?
Have you been checked for diabetes?
Could it be perimenopause?

lillyg34 · 18/08/2024 18:21

@sunsetsandboardwalks yes had this all checked. Just recently had 2 babies. I'm 31 so not sure if it's perimenopause

OP posts:
sunsetsandboardwalks · 18/08/2024 18:26

I would double check your vitamins as what the NHS says is okay isn't necessarily what our body needs not to be deficient, if that makes sense.

Magnesium, calcium, B12 and Iron/folate deficiencies can all lead to tingling and numbness.

Lopity · 18/08/2024 18:34

I get this too and have had all the tests and they can't find anything. I also get burning tongue which started 2 months after a bad bout of covid so not sure if it can be linked?

I've had the buzzing/tingling/numbness and also muscle twitches for about 3 years now. The doctors think it's stress/anxiety. But it's these symptoms causing me stress/anxiety! It's hard not to worry when you have unexplained physical symptoms.

scholarsplaystop · 18/08/2024 19:27

I have this also, it began as a facial tingling sensation with mild finger tremors after a dose of Covid in 2021, all bilateral. No better or worse now 3 1/2 years later. MRI normal, bloods normal. Neurologist noted it as 'Functional Neurological Symptoms'. I have less anxiety about it as time passes

whatatool · 18/08/2024 19:30

I occasionally get this and it's always when I'm premenstral.
Could there be a hormonal link for you?

lillyg34 · 18/08/2024 19:52

The neurologist did mention hormones as I was a few months after giving birth, but it just seems so out the ordinary for me? 7 months down the line now and still having the most strange symptoms. It started as full body tingles. And now just seems to be on the left hand side.

If the doctor tries to say it's stress and anxiety related I might go mad!!! I really really do not think it is. I'm tired yes, but I don't feel anxious or stressed. Only about these symptoms :-(

I had covid in Jan/ December but these symptoms started in April so I'm just not sure! My iron is slightly on the lower side but it always has been looking back over the years.

Lopity · 18/08/2024 22:07

I have a friend who got facial tingling two months after covid. The doctors seemed to think it was related but not sure if they are just clutching at straws!

Baggytrousers2021 · 19/08/2024 07:06

I have to say, this thread has given me some comfort. Have been going to dark places in my mind about it all and knowing other people have had similar issues and post covid/4 jabs can’t be a coincidence. I just want it to stop though!

lillyg34 · 19/08/2024 07:14

@Baggytrousers2021 I've also had 4 jabs and Covid twice. I can completely sympathise with going to a dark place with your symptoms. Really praying it stops for us both. :-(

OP posts:
Buzzybuzz · 19/08/2024 07:30

I have had this since shortly after my first covid jab in spring 21. Like you, NHS neurology, MRI, blood tests, etc found nothing. I saw a neurologist privately, who suspected it was probably caused by the jab. He sent me for a skin biopsy with a professor at Imperial. He found inflammation in the small nerve fibres and also suspected the jab. It is my understanding that covid can also cause this, not just the jab. For me it has calmed a lot over time. It was completely debilitating all over my body for a while, but now it's much less and I can tune out from it most of the time when it happens.

lillyg34 · 19/08/2024 10:11

@Buzzybuzz thank you so much for responding. This is helpful. Have you been given any medication? What did they say in terms of advice or outlook? Not sure whether it's worth going back to neurology for the same test you had, but if there's no treatment - probably no point!
