Daughter is gone 14 and no period

Just wondering if anyone else has this experience? DD was 14 in July and no sign of her period. She has all the other puberty signs, breasts growing, pubic hair, acne and mood swings! But no period. It's really getting her down and she's inclined to be anxious anyway. She just said to me, 'what happens if it never comes, and I can never have children'! What do I say to her? Anyone else got a 'late starter' in their family?

I do have experience of this. I started my periods at the age of 14. I was probably one of the last girls and was very very average in every other way. One day the blood appeared and I’ve had periods regularly ever since.

Same. I was probably 14.5 and one of the last few in my class, but once they did start they were regular and all ok.

15 is the age at which an investigation would be merited. Even for sporty/active types. Menstrual periods = in good health. There are consequences to hormonal imbalances etc.

Yes, NHS says 15 for further investigation.

I think anything between 11-16 is typical? When did you start? Is she worried ?

I had two best friends at school, one started at 9 (she was overweight in ref to a previous poster). I was 14 and my other friend was 16.

My eldest dd (very tall, started puberty early) was 11 and younger one (small and skinny) was 14.

If she's worried I'd reassure her (if she's not say nothing) and suggest waiting another year. If she hasn't started by 15 /16!you could see GP

Yes this definitely! I started at 10 and I was a very young ten too (this was mid-sixties) and then I had an early menopause at about 40 and have really aged since. My mother didn't start until mid teens (maybe the wartime diet?) and she had a later menopause and kept her youth much longer than I have. I don't have daughters so wouldn't know.

I started at 10 too and still (annoyingly) have regular heavy periods at age 50….
my DD is 14 and no periods.

Damn - there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it then! 😅
I don't know which of us is worse off!
